Already submitted from elsewhere. Buried. - ElBeh, on 01/07/2009, -1/+39Ghosts is amazing. The Slip is also great, as well as Trent's older work.
- Laterali, on 01/07/2009, -8/+43I didn't know you submitted anything besides humorous pictures MrBabyMan.
But I loves me some NIN. - emildorbell, on 01/07/2009, -1/+29My head just exploded.
- SRSco, on 01/07/2009, -21/+45NIN makes some ***** music. I love the RIAA.
Show your agreement by burying this comment. - haikuFU, on 01/07/2009, -1/+23Yes. You probably also like Dane Cook.
- dngermouse, on 01/07/2009, -1/+21***** DRM and ***** the RIAA
bands like radiohead/NIN are setting the blueprint for the future of music - pradaaddict, on 01/07/2009, -3/+22that submission is even better. it links directly to the Creative Commons website and bypasses the blogspam courtesy of Babyman. Odd that it has more Diggs than this submission does but its not on frontpage
- msaleem, on 01/07/2009, -9/+25I wasn't a bog fan of the albums but I fully support Reznor's forward thinking attitude and consumer/fan-oriented mentality.
- electrolemon, on 01/07/2009, -1/+15Yeah.
- CalcProgrammer1, on 01/07/2009, -1/+14Dugg for disagreement. Clever scheme you got there. I dislike it!
- JoeThePlumb3r, on 01/07/2009, -0/+13This is absolutly great...
I remember a concert from the times he was still under contract... between two songs he said "go to the internet and steel my music" :) - FTWmovin2canada, on 01/07/2009, -1/+14It's not a band. It's one guy who has people who assist him in concerts.
- anders5689, on 01/07/2009, -5/+17dupe, buried
see anxdiety's link and digg that story. I think it was on the front page already actually.... - alittleroy101, on 01/07/2009, -1/+13and iron my sheets.
- kramsac, on 01/07/2009, -1/+12Burried for MBM
- Nero9171, on 01/07/2009, -2/+12Dugg for NIN, not Mrbabyman
- ArthurSucks, on 01/07/2009, -0/+10It was offered free of charge. The entire album was under the creative commons license.
- idoliside, on 01/07/2009, -0/+10The first part of Ghosts was free, the rest was charge.
The following album "The Slip" was released completely free of charge though, and released on CD. - djruden, on 01/07/2009, -4/+13I ***** hate mrbabyman.
- grungegbunny, on 01/07/2009, -0/+8In your face RIAA!
- designet, on 01/07/2009, -1/+8er..they're not death metal.
This album in particular is a very relaxing "soundscapes" type of experimental album
Go to the amazon site and preview a couple of the tracks, or better still, buy it or download it for free - inactive, on 01/07/2009, -0/+7One of the gentlest, least abrasive records of the year, player. If that makes you want to top yourself I'm not sure I can help.
- abbathdoom, on 01/07/2009, -4/+11Since when did Ars, who have the best tech journalism on the web become "blogspam". I'd much prefer reading their analysis of what the CC press release really means for music than the press release it self. It's called journalism. You should try reading it some time.
- XeroXenith, on 01/07/2009, -0/+7It was all released under a CC license, so it's all legal to download for free, not just the first part.
- messiah, on 01/07/2009, -0/+7In Your Face RIAA. The only problem that the mainstream recording industry faces with this model is the fact that there is so much ***** music out there. Nobody is going to pay for ***** music if they get it for free. Good music on the other hand, as is shown here, will attract money regardless. The RIAA has spent years promoting crappy bands and thats where it will fail with this model
- Vash63, on 01/07/2009, -1/+8As much as I hate reposting from people like this, that's a really ***** title so I could see how people would miss it.
- copypastry, on 01/07/2009, -0/+6Oh ***** man dugg for NIN, taking charge of digital distribution and doin' it right.
- Rev0lver, on 01/07/2009, -0/+6Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFXivarypE4
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -0/+6you're a towel.
- BabyWookie, on 01/07/2009, -0/+5Hmm... Tough decision. Do I digg this for NIN or bury it for MrBabySPAM?
- Betrayal, on 01/07/2009, -0/+5That's great.
But let's not forget, the free tracks were only 1-10 i think and the other 25 were up for purchase.
Trent must be rolling in his post-label gazillions. - ThisCommentSux, on 01/07/2009, -0/+5Wow.
Ghosts couldn't be further from death metal if it tried. Have you even heard any NIN? - jiminynuggets, on 01/07/2009, -1/+6you're not that great of a band
- Halsfield, on 01/07/2009, -0/+5they were given a choice to pay or not pay
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -0/+5It's not a new model for music when you're talking about an established band. I'm sick of all this NIN/Radiohead being groundbreaking talk.
- leonidus1159, on 01/07/2009, -1/+6An amazing album - I've always enjoyed their instrumental stuff more than their regular stuff. They even played some songs from Ghosts on their current tour.
- Chrysalii, on 01/07/2009, -1/+6They get a pass because Trent Reznor releases ***** for free, and the internet orgasms. So their music must be good.
Oh and people actually like them.
But I don't think their music is all that great, but that's just my opinion. I guess that means I'm a jonas Brothers fan, since there are no other options. - etx313, on 01/07/2009, -0/+4I ***** my mind.
- TotalHalibut, on 01/07/2009, -3/+7Thank for you this, buried MrBabySpam
- jiminynuggets, on 01/07/2009, -0/+4Rob Sheridan is great
- Logan2784, on 01/07/2009, -0/+4NIN would be nothing without the major label backing throughout the 90s. The reason they can release a free album and make 1 mill is their name is already established. It took huge capital from their old label to make it so.
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -1/+5Ok both of you either haven't read the article or you're both goldfish.
NIN made the album available for free via The Pirate Bay and ALSO for sale via Amazon. It beat out all the other albums at Amazon.
Hey, a castle! - MikeSobe, on 01/07/2009, -3/+7Thank you, Ars is not 'blogspam'.
- craterburnsu, on 01/07/2009, -0/+4When it first dropped i payed for the album, and the download. So after like 3 months they mailed me the hard copy. I love it.
- MarrowMan, on 01/07/2009, -0/+4NICE! Finally some recognition for Trent. I wonder what he's got hiding up his sleeve for us next time?
- mbstuart, on 01/07/2009, -0/+4The album wasn't free. The Slip was free, but this one was $5.
- coyote1284, on 01/07/2009, -0/+4I'm conflicted by your comment, I half agree and half disagree. Since you are currently in negative, I'll digg up for sake of balance.
- 10mileshigh, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3The only things that Trent is using his post-label gazillions for are making his concerts kick butt and giving us free stuff. You don't exactly see him on the news every other day getting pulled over for a DUI in his Ferrari, or being caught having an illegal child orgy in his billion dollar mansion. He doesn't brag about or inappropriately flaunt his money at all. Other celebrities/musicians, etc. could learn a lesson from him. Even if you don't like NIN's music, at least be respectful of the amazing work ethic and appreciation he shows towards himself and his fans.
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -1/+4Apparently you missed line 2 of the business model, "sell a ***** of stuff as well".
