- tintub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5They never mentioned illegal downloads. In the context it's most likely they are talking about iTunes store etc. What they liked about downloads is that you can buy just the tracks that you like, they didn't mention for example downloading tracks to listen to before you buy them.
- Dayyve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4FF is very good, albeit not spectacular. To all the dunderheads saying "Who the f**k is FF, they are gay, why should I care" I say why the f**k should I care what you think about some band? You probably think your a badass because you listen to 50 cent yet your whiter than I am. Go play GTA and quit trolling Digg because your angry that your awesome abilities at reciting Kanye lyrics isn't gonna get you laid on Valentine's.
- ACoolie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Who reads Playboy? o.0
- stark23x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For the record, they specifically mention ripping a CD and then giving it away. That is the exact behavior the RIAA wants to prosecute people for.
- zarathustra2k1, on 01/15/2009, -0/+1An announcement on the official site reads:
“Franz have covered David Bowie’s 1977 single Sound And Vision for a new compilation marking the 40th anniversary of BBC Radio 1. The album features contemporary artistzzzz covering a song from each year since the station’s first broadcast in 1967.
edit….The whole shabang doesn’t appear to be for charity so point your browsers towards Limewire soon, kiddies!”
So, fail all the fules who reckoned FF were talking about 'legal' filesharing..... - thedudeabides, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Why the ***** would i care what some douchebags in some ***** band think about piracy? Come on!"
What the hell makes you think anyone cares what you think about this article. They are a major group giving an opinion on something most musicians won't touch. What is it about digg that makes everyone just bitch about every little article. This site is amazing, but I don't get why so many people have to come to the comments and just put down everything or anyone they are not into. - Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Refreshing. Franz Ferdinand FTW! +digg
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love the first Franz Ferdinand album. Gonna download the second to see if it's good. FF rocks, good article. But then again, they're just speaking like normal people, which most artists are. It's not the artists who need to be educated, it's the lawmakers and RIAA minions.
- BitpopBoogie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Franz Ferdinand suck. i mean, REALLY SUCK.
why would anyone want to download 'em. (Personal view, sorry to anyone who like them but WTF?!?!)"
I'll agree with that, but for their first album. Their second album is much better with more memorable music.****
First of all franz ferdinand is a set of pretty talented musicians, however, their second album does suck. It's a lot better than a lot of crap out there, such as staind, incubus, deftones, any of the mainstream crap out there. The second album is beatles-esque rips. Not impressed. They rushed and got it out too fast. God a lot of these people are retarded. "which one is franz and which one is ferdinand?" dear god. Ask me who freezepop is, or devendra banhart, or Stuart Price, I could understand someone who isn't into music not knowing about obscure bands but Franz is so commercial and mainstream you'd have to live in a cave not to know who they are. - F1REFOX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Man I love Franz. I like both of their albums alot. Its good stuff. I would agree that the Killers are a little less generic, but I love em both. Anyways, I think that illegal downloading fits in with this stance towards music distribution. Good music, I pay for, at high quality, fast download speeds, complete tags, and knowledge that Im actually downloading what it's labeled as. Filler music, I download anyways, but I dont really give a damn, so I dont care about good tagging, and high quality. I have always felt that it was possible to support good Artists, especially ones that havent achieved popularity by paying for music, while, at the same time, not filling the pool of some record exec with Cristal. It is time that music distribution became non exclusive, and that there was some semblance of competition. It is going in that direction thanks to MySpace, Internet Downloading, and the general popularity of the Indie movement. No thanks to Itunes of course.
Love Franz.
Cully - aspirinetu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Think I'll pirate some FF right now"
i've already did - DrJuice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They didn't mention anything about illegal downloading, or downloading a song for a preview, or anything of the sort. They said they like the ala carte model of iTunes, and the ability to take a whole music collection with you in your pocket. They also said they like the ability to rip a CD (legally purchased, presumably) to a hard drive, not borrowing a CD and ripping.
Slighty misleading description... - MrHolla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Franz looks like a wanker. Screw iTunes! BitTorrent and eMule are the way to go.
- itsnessen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Look... Franz Ferdinand is a pretty good band... They are a HELL of a lot better than most of the music out today... To be honest I can care less what you think about Franz Ferdinand (directed to the people who for whatever reason dont like them). Basically, shut up and keep it to yourself.
- matx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They said about people downloading to see what its like, and that they would buy the song if they liked it
- mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And yet they're on the Sony BMG label. *sigh
- Zacko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am not a fan of their music, but if it stops bands from making one decent track and then creating a bunch of crap to fill a CD, I'm all for it. And I do agree with them, there is still something special about having a physical album with are and liner notes! That's the one issue I have with downloading music: can't read the liner notes! That's the best way to discover new music! Okay, all done . . . DIGG rules!
- coffeecity, on 12/24/2008, -0/+0i love this band.. the fallen and this boy really really good song..
rgdrs
http://ianimaru.com/addiction/ - drbroccoli, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Franz Ferdinand's two members? How can one guy have two members? Oh wait, that's the name of their band.
- thedudeabides, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Franz Ferdinand had nothing to do with payola, it was their record company. They paid money to get allmost all their artists more airtime. I definately dont agree with payola, but Franz got popular on their own right. Who really listens to radio anyway?
- MrTea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1We need a lossless music downloading service
- steal_apps01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1When they said Franz Ferdinand I thought they meant the Arch duke Franz Ferdinand killed by Gavrillo Principe the Bosniac Terrorist that killed Franz and his wife which lead to WWI.
- ollywompus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I'll agree with that, but for their first album. Their second album is much better with more memorable music."
Personally, I think you have it backwards, but whatever. Dugg for anyone who actually thinks that music should be free, and dugg again because any artist that recognizes that THEY are the one's being screwed by the record companies more than ANYONE is worth a digg.
-olly - marcus_r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Fpr the lazy...
"ALEX: I like the idea that, because of downloading, people are going to buy songs only if they are good. I think that’s a positive thing. It means lazy bands aren’t going to get away with giving you one hit single and an album full of filler. We like the idea that every song should stand up in its own right so you don’t have to listen to a song in the context of an album to understand it. I suppose that’s why I’m sympathetic to the download environment."
That's a refreshing attitude. For all of the douchebags bashing Franz Ferdinand... grow the ***** up. No one gives a ***** about your taste in music, the article is merely meant to point out how two guys in the music industry feel about something we all probably do, that being download music. - antron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So which one is Franz and which one is Ferdinand?
- bunkre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's funny, weren't they named in the recent commercial radio payola scandal?!? I'd support downloading of my music too if the radio end of things was 'taken care of' :P
http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1506321/20050725/index.jhtml?headlines=true - Sturmur, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Franz Ferdinand is a great band. They're now learning to layer their music, and add in some good riffs. Their latest album was pretty damn good, and much better than much of the new punkesque crap coming out.
- LatvianHedgehog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1FF ? In Playboy ? About music downloading ? rofl
- richardiscool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree, the second album is very Beatles - I thought I was the only one that noticed that!
"Eleanor put your boots on" and "Fade Together" are the ones that stand out. - Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0he isint talking about pirating he is talking about buying...... *still downloading cd off of bt*
- Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1
I prefer the music of The Killers myself...
Although I give them props for "Take Me Out". When I first heard it, I thought "WTF, does The Cure have a new release that I don't know about?" - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why listen to these people? They're the poster boys for payola. Their popularity was bought. Let's let them slide back into the anonymity they probably never would have escaped without breaking the law.
Payola is the original form of astroturfing, and it's the only one that is against the law. How desperate do you have to be to employ it? - CaughtThinking, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Finally a band that doesn't suck speaks the truth. Digg for Franz Ferdinand and real music!
- rawsteak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0playboy? shouldnt they be talking to playgirl?
- OperatorNo9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Franz Ferdinand is on the more mainstream side of post-punk/garage revival but it's still good music. There is only one song on "You could have..." that I consistently skip.
You can not like FF all you want but if you're going to trash a band with as much talent as FF, at least have the balls to offer up some band that you are digging. That way we can either write you off for your love of Kelly Clarkson or respect you for your appreciation of Death Cab. - Googled, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2LOL at all the people dissing FF. My guess is your American, which most are looking at your profiles, typical behaviour, nothing new there.
- firehydra2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Must agree with the second thing. Although this is not supporting much...
- jpeckinp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What? No word from Hanz?
- sparkmonkeyz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1this is beautiful
I ♥ U FRANZ FERDINAND!!! - KarateMedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dayyve -- thanks!
Googled -- No problem. I have prejudices of my own. For example, you might notice that my list of bands doesn't include anything very current! - kidjay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1great, how about we listen to a band like U2 and what they have to say. (newsflash its the same thing, except their opinion isn't crap)
- tintub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Matx: they said "I like the idea that, because of downloading, people are going to buy songs only if they are good."
This does not mean they like the idea of people pirating their tracks, it seems to me to mean they like the fact that from e.g. the iTunes store, I can choose 1 or 2 tracks from an album of filler, rather than paying for the whole album when there are only 2 tracks that I like. - weezerrock86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I still love how people have to post listing all the obscure and out of mainstream bands they like to make us think that maybe, just maybe their opinion is more valid than anyone else.
- sidebuster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Why the ***** would i care what some douchebags in some ***** band think about piracy? Come on!"
Because they are for buying single tracks as opposed to an album full of crap songs. Learn to read before you join the band wagon of hopping spacktards. At least give them some respect for not pulling a Metallica and throwing a hissy fit or like Greenday and trying to promote their uneducated views on politics. - muffinking, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Didn't he get assassinated back in 191x?
- reaver, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Good, because I didn't buy their last album. >_>
- bondo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0OK, but what does Vanilla Ice have to say on the subject?
- MikeDawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Coming from a band and their label (Sony) that got fined for participating in "payola".
- bunkre, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0yeah, I realize it was SONY, not FF directly involved in the payola scandal, I just thought it was kind of funny to point out that they are involved in many forms of illegal distro of their music.
(FF Fans: RELAX, we're just ribbin' ya! sheesh... who are you trying to convince at this point...) - imjustabill, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Franz Ferdinand is real music??? Sony had to pay off radio stations to get em on the air.
