I'd take illegal pirating over hairy FAT american women any day. - fortezza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2>I shudder to think of only having content of the likes of public access TV or creative commons >to me because no one will compensate artists.

Yep, no longer will people be able to do some work once and then keep selling copies the same thing over and over. They will either record music because they love to do it, or they will perform live and charge people for the performance. En sum, they will have to work each time they want to get paid, just like the rest of us. I shudder at the thought! - VijchtiDoodah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm packing my bags, I'll see you all in France.

I believe you meant to say "Woohoo"
Honestly, if you're going to quote Homer Simpson, you've got to do it right.... ;-) - Tynan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pretty obviously good choice for them. They know that they'll gain much more in stealing from foreign (mainly US) content providers than they'll lose in revenue to local content makers, a la Chinese intellectual property law.
I wonder if I'd get pissed off at all the freeloading that goes on if I were American. Same thing happens with drugs and military protection. It actually could be somewhat irritating. - 6pintsofbitter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1C'est Bon!
- daduke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In France Internet access (including unlimited national and some international phone calls and digital TV) is cheaper too, thanks to furious competition between ISPs

"-->I'm packing my bags, I'll see you all in France.
What, you don't like taking showers?"
or maybe s/he doesn't like retarded fat people.
oh, national stereotypes, aren't they nice? - Gigolo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That is cool.
Though you have to wonder whether the lawmakers there have a full load of bricks. Theyve done some pretty stupid stuff before (notable: unemployment benefits). Im not sure if alienating the music industry like this is the way to go... - cyberghost232, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0saweet.

And three days later your ass will be back in the states. This is an interesting ruling, but it will only be a matter of time before it is reversed. - superdigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cool! it's a dupe but it's new to me.
- LeFrenzy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1On a gagné! Vive La France! La coupe du monde en 2006! WHOOHOO!
- GuineaPig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Piracy has short-term benefits, but, in the long term, if IP is unprofitable, no one will invest in it.
I shudder to think of only having content of the likes of public access TV or creative commons to me because no one will compensate artists. - BGFeltenink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So... why can't a site host all these files for free? Shouldn't there be some kind of neo-napster in France soon or now?
If so, what is to prevent we of less advantaged countries from hopping on the bandwagon? - anarchy99, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"">I'd take illegal pirating over hairy women any day."

move to canada music is legal and with other things no one has had charges placed against them no one cares up there
and the beer is good and strong so there women who are already hot are even hotter - acemilo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0God I love France. This is the second intelligent court decision they have ruled in the last year. The other one was someone bought a dvd and wanted to copy it but couldn't due to the css encryption. He successfully sued the movie studio and as a ruling they had to provide him with an unencrypted copy of the movie.

- slamm6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Across the Atlantic, the Motion Picture Association of America on Thursday called the amendment "an unfortunate development." "Most alarming is the apparent disregard for the potential impact on the French cinema industry, which will be hardest hit if this vote is upheld," said Gayle Osterberg, an MPAA vice president.
Yeah, the MPAA is woried about the French cinema industry....
Anyone want to buy a bridge in Manhattan...cheap ? - neopran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Vive le France

Perhaps... Quote: "The decision was actually made back in December but has only just been made public." Of course, I'd have to ask you how you knew about it then. :) - po6ot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0vive la france!!!!!!
- l0th, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"In France Internet access (including unlimited national and some international phone calls and digital TV) is cheaper too, thanks to furious competition between ISPs"
Actually, we now have unlimited international phone calls as well: I don't pay to call the U.S. anymore. And that's in addition to the 8mbps internet connection and over 200 TV channels.
All that for 29,9€/month... - cy_kid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0YAHOOOOOoooo!!!
Opppss i mean

- gali, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hi all i'm french !
And it's still not legal to download music for personnal use ^^.
The french association of music producers and the government will try to make a law hardest, wich condamn download, copy for personnal use and using of some open-source softwares, this is going to be worst in the next few months, even if this "ammendement"(wich means a first accepted law) gave me a little hope.
ps : "vive la france" is true but "viva la france" is a little spanish ^^
sorry if i've bean un-understable ^^ - AttroPheed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Well that's one nice thing about living here. I'd prefer the people were nicer or perhaps not having to smell urine, ***** and body funk everywhere I go but at least I can steal movies without repercussion.
