- nipterink, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19i've always been a fan of: http://www.songmeanings.net/
p.s. this wiki puts bands that start with the word "The" under the letter T... lame. - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1http://www.download.com/TagRunner/3000-2141_4-10645260.html?tag=lst-0-1

There *ahem* are ways to get around that *ahem* - iSamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've used http://www.letssingit.com for the longest time. It's user-generated content, and much like a wiki. Only a few times have I had to look for another site for lyrics, and they have a lot of obscure bands on there too.
- maglob, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1First band I looked for wasn't on there, buried as it is *****
- Petrarch1603, on 10/12/2007, -18/+1they need a search option on the front page
- Petrarch1603, on 10/12/2007, -16/+4err nevermind when i was this page earlier today there was no search box
- inspecality, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Two things wrong with that.
1. You weren't that page this morning!
2. Also you're a liar.
About a year ago - http://web.archive.org/web/20060515181416/www.lyricwiki.org/Main_Page - sepultura, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Who cares?
- madcreator, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Actually it did the same thing for me. The page loaded with the entire leftmost column missing. I spent several minutes looking for the search box. Finally I typed in lyricwiki.org to my address bar and the page refreshed with the left column and search box.
- nazsco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why does lyrics services like yahoo's have to show you an image instead of text?
- yuriw, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18It would be neat if there was an iTunes plug in to automatically put these on your iPod from only within iTunes.
- psbpv3o, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Just use Exaile!, I'm not sure if it's only for linux but it's an app that replicates itunes and takes band info and lyrics from online. Not trying to be the gay linux fanboy (even though linux kicks ass) but it's pretty cool...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exaile - reldruh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4There's an amarok script for it that works wonderfully. http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=39724 One of the great advantages of open source is the willingness of everybody to collaborate. LyricWiki and Wikipedia downloads from within amarok is just one small example of that.
- deadlikeoscar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yes, Amarok is awesome. I've never tried the other user's suggestion. I may have to look it up but I can't imagine trading Amarok for anything.
- RagnerD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is a free tool that adds lyrics to iTunes and iPod.
http://Soundcrank.com - EvilDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1iArt does exactly that - lyrics straight into iTunes and the iPod.
http://www.ipodsoft.com/site/pmwiki.php?n=IArt.HomePage - insidesource, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.evillabs.sk/evillyrics/ for your iTunes lyrics needs. Oh, and for....Winamp, WMP 9, MusicMatch, Foobar, MediaMonkey, Real Player, QCD, Y!Music, XMPlay and AlbumPlayer.

- Charron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5There's a few places like this now, isn't there? I know of www.lyriki.com, but I'm pretty sure there are others too...
- DietCoke597, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9IDK, I just search " 'name of song' lyrics" on google, works just as well. I don't have epilespy, though.
- TiKoZ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yea that works perfectly.
And you can also try evil lyrics (google it), it works like a charm with all major media players.
- TiKoZ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yea that works perfectly.
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13RIAA takedown notice in 3....2.....1.....
- Rocketbird, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Umm I don't think lyrics sites have been attacked yet.
- Goosemaster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5just wait......it's protected materiall
- ZCBrown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Actually, it's not the RIAA, but the MPA (Music Publishers Association) that will attack this. I'm pretty sure they've attacked lyric sites in the past. They're the reason for the disappearance of numerous tab sites.
- pokka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8ummm Rocketbird...

The raid on the Swiss site lyrics.ch was one of the most aggressive ones I've ever heard about. The guy was sued by Harry Fox, representing 8 publishers, and as part of an agreement he was forced to re-purpose the site as a tool for Harry Fox to sell performance licenses.
A quote from the guy:
"They think that they have lost millions through our server," he continued, "but they have to prove this, and they didn't prove it yet. If they can, this could cost me millions [in damages] -- which I never can pay back. But I think the main goal is not to get money, because I don't have too much of that, but to have something of an example. They want [use this episode] to tell other sites that it's really clear you don't have any chance."
- mattybb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10how about guitar tab wiki? eh? eh?
- psbpv3o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2agreed.
- mattybb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1on the note of a good guitar tab site... 911tabs.com....
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5How about a kazoo fingering chart wiki? How about a wiki featuring the best trombone glissandos? What about a wiki on tambourine scoring for your favorite '60s songs? Needs more cowbell!
- DayTripper47, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2www.ultimate-guitar.com has pretty much monopolized tabs since all other tab sites have been shut down.
- mattybb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1hell yeah. i feel that everyone should be given the option to learn to make music, in whatever form (kazoo, comb-and-wax-paper, spoons, gum) they enjoy. and then be able to play the instrument to any coldplay song they want.
and i like 911tabs because it searches through ultimate-guitar and a bazillion other tabs sites all at once. purdy handy, knaw whut i mean? - Twango, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'll get Dugg down for this, but working out your own tabs is better for musicians.
- Boing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Google hasn't failed me yet while looking for lyrics, I'll stick with it.
- clinko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3There's still ads on the site, just not as much.
Just because the word "wiki" in a domain name doesn't make this not spam.
Maybe i'll create SavePuppiesandLyrics.org and see if it goes on the top of digg.- darthdurden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2and just how would this be spam? i'm a member of the team that created lyricwiki and i have no idea who the guy who posted this story is... i thank him for doing it and giving us more exposure, but it is definitely not spam... most sites that get put on digg have ads... of the current front page articles, 3 do not have ads on the page, and 2 of them are pages for Mike Gravel, so i wouldn't expect those to, since they are political pages (although that's pretty much an advertisement in itself.... and before anyone gets on me, i am not knocking Mike Gravel) ... what i would call spam on digg is when people blog about an article written on another site, which is basically just a pass through to that site with no real value add other than to their adwords account
- emehrkay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1is this legal?
- Scheissen, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4This is stupid! There is nothing "wiki" about this. You can't edit them when they are wrong (most of the time they are) because it just goes to the other lyric sites and collects them. Also this site has ads. I also hate it when sites don't use proper capitalization for titles.
- meatshoes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What do you mean? I edited a song back in October last year and my changes have persisted, plus the song has been further improved by others.
- Scheissen, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Well it doesn't work like Wikipedia -- I don't see the edit button anywhere unless you have to register which is stupid.
- mildsoup, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@Scheissen
what are you talking about? the edit button is at the top of the page.
- browbeater, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1useless site. the first 3 artists I looked for aren't listed.
sarah mclaughlin, johnny cash, gene watson.
tell me I'm wrong.- obrysii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5http://lyricwiki.org/Johnny_Cash
- Twizzlers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You're wrong.
http://lyricwiki.org/Johnny_Cash
http://lyricwiki.org/Sarah_McLachlan
http://lyricwiki.org/Gene_Watson
- IntellEJent, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's a nice site. Sometimes, other things are not only innaccurate but also bombarded by tons of advertisements. This used to have no ads. I've used it a lot when searching for things in other languages too. Hey I just realized, I've dugg this before:
I posted this before! http://digg.com/music/Lyrics_Wiki_2 - devdavad, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3dupe
- endersshadow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1So, um, this is like songmeangings.net with a wiki instead? ...Greeeeeat....
- Gzero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No, songmeanings has the commenting thing where people try to figure out the song's meaning. The only advantage I can see in this site is not having messed up lyrics stay up forever, like what tends to happen on songmeanings.
- Sabretou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I find it surreal that I was looking for a Lyrics Wiki just yesterday...
*shudder* - stray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Legal issue: don't you have to pay license fees to reproduce lyrics? I'm pretty sure you do.
- Twango, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh no, all those years I was singing my favorite songs, I didn't have a license. Oh the shame.
- demonotaku, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Did anyone else look at the top 10 songs from iTunes? All of those songs are ***** terrible. Kelly Clarkson, and Avril Lavigne and all that other garbage is just plain old bad. For shame iTunes. For shame.
- DivineMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can't wait to try this in Amarok...Getting sick of some songs having lines like ???????
They're damn hard to sing. - ewang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One problem I found with the site, it lets you search for everything EXCEPT for the lyrics themselves. For example, Dido has a nice song titled "White Flag" that has the line "I Will Go Down With this Ship". If you search for the line, you get all sorts of results based on title (not what I'm interested in) or Page/Artist. Since most folks looking for lyrics have heard something interesting on the radio, and may not know who the artist is, this is a fairly significant oversight.
- veersite, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0"In Soviet Russia, lyrics find YOU!"
- gcodori, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I need sites like this to tell me what the heck Michael MacDonald was singing about in the Doobie Brothers. That brother has a serious case of marble-mouth.
- xandifenn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice, music http://seeqpod.com and lyrics http://lyricwiki.org/Beck:Black_Tambourine
