- jascination, on 02/23/2009, -2/+55Listening to Elliott Smith helped me through some of the hardest times of my life. He doesn't have the best voice in the world by any means, but the emotion and tenderness he puts into his songwriting is just amazing.
- BigSusan, on 02/23/2009, -0/+38r.i.p. elliott
oh how i love him - googooly, on 02/23/2009, -1/+36On behalf of every Canadian here i like to say ***** Celine Dion
- whoaohh, on 02/23/2009, -0/+32Good to see Elliott Smith on Digg.
They don't make them like the used to. Rest in peace, Elliott. - ZapRowsdowwer, on 02/23/2009, -0/+28I can't believe Elliott made the front page!
I wish you hadn't left us. Rest in Peace, man - anderzole, on 02/22/2009, -1/+25Send the poison rain down the drain
To put bad thoughts in my head - hollywoodphony, on 02/23/2009, -2/+24Man, that was so long ago. Everyone good dies.
- indubitably, on 02/23/2009, -0/+18Fret not. Everyone bad dies too.
- alexdeeley, on 02/23/2009, -1/+18It makes me happy when I see people that don't like Elliott. It's as though he's still my little secret.
- jeffko387, on 02/23/2009, -0/+15You sell life insurance.
- Bologner, on 02/23/2009, -0/+15Dugg for a musical genius.
- cheetohman, on 02/23/2009, -0/+13Goddammit, I miss this kind of raw talent.
- tyboulder, on 02/23/2009, -0/+12Good enough for me :)
- sibos, on 02/23/2009, -0/+12Best Oscar performance ever. Actually, it's the only one I can remember really enjoying, in spite of being one of the simplest.
- binky79, on 02/23/2009, -0/+11So sad.
- tyboulder, on 02/23/2009, -0/+10Cue it up dick.
- mrtango, on 02/23/2009, -0/+8thanks, Elliot on the front page of digg caught me by surprise.
- johnkemp, on 02/23/2009, -0/+8My favorite musician of all time. Elliott Smith is on a level of greatness all his own.
RIP. - spence1818, on 02/23/2009, -0/+8yeah..although i'm pretty pissed she beat elliott out at the oscars, he actually said that she was one of the nicest people he'd met in this interview: http://www.undertheradarmag.com/es.html
"Although the Academy Awards ceremony didn’t sit too well with Smith, and he, as well as his bright white suit, was trashed on television, he says it did force him to change his mind about Celine Dion, who performed right after he did. "She was really sweet, which has made it impossible for me to dislike Celine Dion anymore. Even though I can’t stand the music that she makes -- with all due respect I don’t like it much at all -- but she herself was very, very nice. She asked me if I was nervous and I said, ‘Yeah.’ And she was like, ‘That’s good because you get your adrenaline going, and it’ll make your song better. It’s a beautiful song.’ Then she gave me a big hug. It was too much. It was too human to be dismissed simply because I find her music trite." " - indubitably, on 02/23/2009, -0/+7...in the butt w/o lube
- gokarter641, on 02/23/2009, -0/+7Absolutely brilliant.
So glad to see Elliott here; not what I expected to come across.
Made my night a little better. - akshay626, on 02/23/2009, -1/+8This video comes around once a year :)
- johnkemp, on 02/23/2009, -0/+6HA. Conor oberst could live a million years and never come close to comparing with Elliott Smith.
- tyboulder, on 02/23/2009, -0/+6
There can always be better singer-songwriters. It's all relative. Oberst has talent *too* but you're comparing apples to oranges. Plus, though I do really like him, he comes across as still a bit of an ADHD trust fund baby, yet to mature. Elliott had substance Oberst will never have. - zardoz73, on 02/23/2009, -1/+7Such a beautiful song. This is the biggest Oscar disappointment of the last two decades.
- mjbk24, on 02/23/2009, -1/+5My condolences to you for being a self obsessed *****.
- Shakermaker, on 02/23/2009, -0/+4You first.
- mjbk24, on 02/23/2009, -1/+5Anybody find this story to be ironic on the front page the day Heath Ledger won an Oscar seeing as how Elliott Smith was his favorite musician and Ledger wanted to make a movie about him?
- stijnbraas, on 02/22/2009, -1/+5Two tickets torn in half
And a lot of nothing to do - Jews, on 02/23/2009, -0/+43rd year on digg, first time I've seen it.
- HighStakesJenga, on 02/23/2009, -1/+5We miss you, Elliott.
- evilearsgonemad, on 02/23/2009, -0/+4One of the most inspirational musicians in my life. Found him through "good will hunting" - still one of the best soundtracks I've ever owned. Bought up everything else I could find on cd. Was a tragic day when he passed.
- inactive, on 02/23/2009, -0/+4OR
And it's all right because some enchanted night
I'll be with you - alexdeeley, on 02/23/2009, -2/+5I'm fairly certain if anyone was inebriated to the point he was a lot of the time, they would have the same issues.
- alexdeeley, on 02/23/2009, -0/+3And what of us mediocre?
- Fusi0n, on 02/23/2009, -1/+4How is Elliott a dead heroin musician?
- Shakermaker, on 02/23/2009, -0/+3I remember watching this. What a great songwriter - he'll be missed.
- WEIL3R, on 02/23/2009, -0/+3His voice and words have helped me get through stressful/painful times as well...I listened to "Pitseleh" and "I didn't understand" quite a bit.
A music video I found of pitseleh with some nice imagery...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDMeEtUCq54
I have a world record lap in Burnout 3 i uploaded with "I didn't understand" set as background music...I couldn't find an official video. :(
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UFTZTfwyz8
They are two of my favorite songs of Elliott's... - sibos, on 02/23/2009, -1/+4Do you miss me, Miss Misery
Like you say you do? - terminal157, on 02/23/2009, -0/+2I'm often pleasantly surprised by how good Digg's taste in music is. I would've guessed such a large pool of people would vote more for mainstream garbage. Happy to be wrong.
- misterrock, on 02/23/2009, -1/+3more recordings from "from a basement on a hill" leaked last week.
go download if you haven't already. new monkey is awesome - futebollounge, on 02/23/2009, -1/+3hes actually good live. he sounds like he does on his recordings. people dont give him enough credit live because they dont understand that hes actually going for that style of singing most the time.
- acex23, on 02/23/2009, -0/+2that doesn't really refute his point. I'm not saying I agree with reed, but saying he was inebriated doesn't mean he didn't suck live.
- Jews, on 02/23/2009, -1/+3Agreed. Jeff Buckley died early too. But Elliot took his own life. If he only understood how much his music meant to people.
- spence1818, on 02/23/2009, -0/+2yeah here's the interview where he brings that up http://www.undertheradarmag.com/es.html
- the42ndpotato, on 02/23/2009, -0/+2That was Nick Drake. They are similar, true, and both equally awesome, but they ain't the same person.
- Pertolepe, on 02/23/2009, -0/+2Actually, I remember reading that Smith would get kind of angry with people that said stuff like that about her to him. Apparently she was real decent to him backstage at the Oscars and he found people insulting her to him kind of weird.
- wangl3r, on 02/24/2009, -0/+2That's ***** adorable. I didn't even want to, but I had to digg you up.
- evilearsgonemad, on 02/23/2009, -0/+2dude wasn't out there to win oscars. I'm sure the whole experience was surreal to him.
