- CB810, on 07/11/2009, -1/+190Shame on you EMI.
- forumz, on 07/12/2009, -7/+167The music industry has sucked the life out of the art form. It hit me when MJ died, anyone remember when it was fun to go get an album? Now all albums have one hit and the rest art B-side fillers
- bmatherlyjr, on 07/12/2009, -0/+114No need to sell to mama / papa shops when you can just levy law suits on websites like Grooveshark and make a killing.
- nddigi, on 07/12/2009, -2/+112I want to blame this on the RIAA. Can I do that? I think I can.
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -7/+108I for one will now be pirating all of their music.
- Kyrgizion, on 07/12/2009, -0/+75Reasons for buying music: -1
Reasons for pirating music: +1
Intelligence score of EMI's marketing team: -9000 - eur0pa, on 07/12/2009, -0/+62"Now"
- yacks, on 07/12/2009, -1/+60Great more reason to pirate music because you are boycotting the big box music stores.
- obliviousfool, on 07/12/2009, -1/+59Does that include subsidiaries of EMI?
If so, that's a pretty hefty catalog! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_EMI_artists - Nephlabobo, on 07/12/2009, -1/+58Unlimited supply
There is no reason why - inactive, on 07/12/2009, -5/+62that sucks too because you just had plans to buy a whole bunch!
- Princeamor, on 07/12/2009, -0/+57I hate it when you see companies like this shoot themeselves in the foot... I wonder why they don't see what they're doing...
My point is that its not always about the money you see in front of you at the moment but about the relationships you are keeping that may turn into a lot more in the future... - matt.rubin, on 07/12/2009, -0/+55If only mom and pop places were not killed by the best buys and walmarts.
I want to buy PC parts from a guy at the corner store! - S7aind, on 07/12/2009, -1/+55Maybe for pop, but there are quite a few alternative albums that I've found plenty of good songs on. Sure, it's not like they used to be but there is still quality out there.
- eggzs, on 07/12/2009, -4/+52***** the RIAA
- yuppieduppie, on 07/12/2009, -0/+44Its all good. They refuse to sell. I refuse to buy.
- ryanspeck, on 07/12/2009, -1/+45The ironic thing is that sales of Thriller were basically the final straw that pushed the music industry from artist-friendly companies with more idealistic ideas of return on an album into money-grubbing corporate bloodsuckers, who couldn't care about the music.
After they smelled the level of money that was available within the record industry, it killed the "music lover running a label to get music he loves out" style of distribution and left only yuppies with no interest in music trying to turn every album into a multi-platinum money bonanza. - charm803, on 07/12/2009, -1/+42What a genius idea, EMI!
This will surely stop all the pirating!
/s - icndvl, on 07/12/2009, -0/+37It's to wipe out the little guys so the large corps can form a cartel without competition.
- tgc1, on 07/12/2009, -2/+38EMI is one of the main lobbying groups behind the RIAA.
- Yarkz, on 07/12/2009, -4/+33http://rorr.im
- Salif, on 07/12/2009, -0/+26wait, and they're trying to convince us we shouldnt pirate? ludicrous
- Takfam, on 07/12/2009, -1/+22Wait. So when they take money out of the hands of retailers, it's simply good business. When music pirates do it, a lawsuit the likes of which seen by OJ Simpson comes down on them. Who the ***** thinks up this ass-backwards logic?
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -4/+24There's an ulimited supply
And there is no reason why
I tell you it was all a frame
They only did it cos the fame !
Who ?
E.M.I - MisterFurious, on 07/12/2009, -1/+21Then they'll blame file sharers for their loss of revenue.
- PacketScan, on 07/12/2009, -0/+18This is what happens when Corporations have more rights then citizens, Bend over and Lube up.
- vocalyouth, on 07/12/2009, -1/+19Are you serious? Mom and Pop = independent business.
- BLyday, on 07/12/2009, -5/+23Don't go into a Mom and pop store if you're an orphan, you'll just walk out dissapointed.
- j035u5, on 07/12/2009, -9/+27I honestly think that music at the moment is the best it has ever been. Never has so much choice been offered, never has there been such great diversity, and so much great new music. You just have to hunt for it a bit more now because radio is broken and people care more about celeb gossip than talk about artists.
Its still there, people still love to make music and now its easier for me to hear it. Artists aren't getting stupid, labels just have less money to throw around so the more niche stuff doesn't get pushed as much - RobotCitizen, on 07/12/2009, -0/+18It's like the media cartels have special teams that just sit around thinking of new ways to screw the little guy.
- j035u5, on 07/12/2009, -2/+19Yeah what are these sex pistols? Maybe I'm not cool enough to have heard of these new trendy sex pistols.
- sgtstumpy, on 07/12/2009, -0/+16The one thing I agree with the Sex Pistols about: ***** EMI!
- Jaq524, on 07/12/2009, -1/+17Yeah, I don't understand diggers. They all claim to be consistent music pirates, sticking it to the man, and then when an article comes out about how the "mom & pop" stores are suffering we all shed tears.
Um.. did you think that pirating music was helping out those mom & pop stores to begin with!? When, diggers, was the last time YOU went to one of these independent retailers? - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 07/12/2009, -4/+19Music went digital a decade ago.
- CTK14A, on 07/12/2009, -1/+16The campaign against Main Street continues...
- addicted68098, on 07/12/2009, -1/+16mirror down, can we get a mirror for the mirror?
perhaps an additional mirror for that mirror to be on the safe side - jrm125, on 07/12/2009, -1/+16I'd just like to thank EMI for giving me one more way to save my money in this economy.
***** bags. - majorrick, on 07/12/2009, -0/+15It's not equal. -9000 is indeed under 9000.
Perhaps you should heed your own advice? - Spuy767, on 07/12/2009, -1/+15I should think that the justice department would jump on them like stink on ***** and start sniffing around for collusion, or perhaps an agreement with larger music outlets to make sure best buy or walmart hasn't pulled a microsoft.
- StEligius, on 07/12/2009, -1/+15Well unfortunately the little "mom n pop" stores and "Indie" stores may have to form a purchasing CO-OP to do all their procurement in volume. It's a shame that things go that way but you sometimes have to play buy the *****' rules. The problem is that purchasing corporation could envelop the local stores and become just another chain.
Grocery store example:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IGA_(supermarkets) - Tenareth, on 07/12/2009, -3/+17Yes, but many of those are not RIAA labels...
- ShingoEX, on 07/12/2009, -1/+13I'm pretty sure he's referring to distribution method, not optical format.
- Psybient, on 07/12/2009, -3/+15You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
- Bloodboiler, on 07/12/2009, -0/+12Me too. A company shooting itself to the head is much more rewarding to watch.
- MetricLobster, on 07/12/2009, -0/+12so your feeling is that his feeling is wrong??? ah.... my feeling is i am just goina buy independent
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -1/+13In their efforts to prtect the music industry, the RIAA is effectively burying it instead.
- boxoctosis, on 07/12/2009, -0/+11This is actually really really bad. The only dedicated music stores still making it in retail are the mom and pops, and this is because of customer loyalty, which probably has a lot to do with the deep catalog these stores maintain. Tower and Virgin records both closed all of their stores in recent years. Indie places like Waterloo in Austin, Amoeba in San Francisco, and The Beat in Sacramento have weathered the storm so far, but getting stabbed in the back by EMI might finish them off. Disgusting!
btw this mirror still good: http://rorr.im/digg.com/music/emi_refuses_to_sell_ ... - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 07/12/2009, -5/+16All studio albums are exactly that now...
- UnWeave, on 07/12/2009, -0/+10People are still writing CDs as "CD's"?
Even the person who wrote the article did it. -
