- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -7/+41So you're burying the story based on who the submitter is? I can't wait to see what that method does for the quality of the stories on the front page. Isn't that just as bad as digging it based on who the submitter is?
- digitalgopher, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30@cannon13 & zweben - Users like you are an absolute disgrace. Top diggers like P9 submit excellent content and keep this site fresh. By mass burying stories on a whim (as many of you have done today), you're guilty of the abusing the system which is the very same thing you're blaming the top diggers for.
- curtissthompson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29Why does it matter who submits good content? I find that so many want to get a high rank, and get a lot of homepage stories, and often those are the same people who are complaining they don't have the ability or the control to decide what hits the homepage, and by who.
You obviously have! You've realized your power and abused it, to bury stories based on the submitter, rather than the quality of the content. You think you are solving a problem with the system, but you are only progressively exacerbating it, through unjustifiable manipulation of your power as a digg user. Congratulations you aren't fighting a problem, you are the problem! Now go ahead and use your power to bury this comment, because you dislike it, not because it is spam or inaccurate! - BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+32@badfrog: That is not all the submitter is doing. p9 has always been a top-notch contributor on this site since he joined.
Bury stories based on their merit. Not based on who submitted them. The fastest way to ruin Digg is to stop considering the merit of the content. - SupaFupa, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26Seriously guys? I think this whole digg oligarchy thing is hilarious. Its not like they're making money off of spending 24 hours a day on digg. There's no discernible bias to the stories they submit. It all reminds me of a joke. Whats better than winning a gold metal at the special olympics? Not being retarded.
- GuyHitByTruck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Try to keep your comments under one verse, please.
- Gregd, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18This thread is exactly why P9, myself and I'm sure others are going to move on. Stupidity knows no bounds...
- kurtergad87, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13The larger the userbase, the greater the risk of having at least one idiot conspiracy nut. These last three hours Cannon13 has been spamming every single thread I've found interesting while many others have been spamming the RSS-feed.
Normally I just block the fanatics on Digg, but usually they don't affect the overall quality of Digg. I would urge P9, Gregd, Digitalgopher, Bloodjunkie and the other major Digg-contributors to stay, though I can easily understand not wanting to be where your work isn't appreciated. - dmoney06, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10wrong reply, digg up
- tfedullo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7its free, its ad based, but is there drm?
- sjbdallas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's SpiralFrog again. The same thing that Universal is doing. There DRM and the songs expire after a few months. They're only in WMA and you can't burn them to a CD.
- newevilmind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4of course.
- cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually WMA DRM was just cracked last week I believe.
- ryanmiller1982, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The music is supposedly going to be in 128kbps protected wma format (which means it wont work on your ipod).
The premise of the download is that you listen to a 90 second ad before every download starts. Then you have to listen to another ad every 30 days or the music license expires.
Thats what the guys at This Week In Tech said. ref: www.twit.tv (see TWIT 67: Yakkity Sax podcast, toward the end.) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm a big fan of the Sex Pistols and found your comment quite appropriate. Thumbs up.
- hehe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I read about this before when they made a deal with another record label...there's no mention of DRM. That being said, they do track how many times the song has been listened to, and based on that number, throw you an ad (of a specific length) every now and then. It sure sounds like DRM. But for free...it's worth looking into.
- whitesnow158, on 10/24/2007, -0/+0No doubt as a reaction to all the bad press he's been giving record labels, Universal/Interscope has relieved Trent Reznor of his contractual duties.

- Sil369, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0When you listen to music or watch music videos from music.aol.com, you sometimes have to watch an ad first ... but you don't get to keep the song at the end. :/
So, Spiralfrog - 1, AOL - 0.
(I don't use either of these services except AOLmusic once and a while to watch an old music video). - wjw75, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1At least it gets the ball rolling. First there were only 'illegal' mp3s, then Apple itunes came along to sell legit copies for a price, now there's Spiral Frog - free music, but with stupidly over the top licensing requirements.
Soon enough, some other company will come in and undercut Spiral Frog - by offering tracks that last even longer til they expire, or more formats with no DRM, etc. Eventually it'll get to the point where a company can still make a profit while offering completely free music. - dmoney06, on 10/12/2007, -15/+4http://digg.com/tech_news/The_Beginning_of_the_End_for_Digg_com
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -19/+4"The fastest way to ruin Digg is to stop considering the merit of the content."
Exactly. Which is why the top-user and friends systems must be changed. - badfrog, on 10/12/2007, -26/+8@BloodJunkie: That's what the submitter is doing, belongs to the group of 30 or so people that only digg each other's stuff.
