- AxsToro, on 06/22/2009, -2/+114***** THE RIA.. Wait what? ASCAP? ... WELL THEM ***** THEM TOO!
- DrHoliday, on 06/22/2009, -0/+86I rarely ever say this, but I hope AT&T crushes them with its unstoppable army of corporate lawyers.
- TrancePhreak, on 06/22/2009, -1/+77They seem to have forgotten about that 30s clip rule.
- RobertWright, on 08/13/2009, -0/+54There's nothing about ASCAP that surprises me anymore!!
- Nereus90, on 06/22/2009, -1/+55ASCAP = ass cap = ass hat
Coincidence? Unlikely. - The0, on 06/22/2009, -0/+34That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Die in a fire, ASCAP.
- inactive, on 06/22/2009, -0/+33you pay for ringtones?, why...
- mysportsrumors, on 06/22/2009, -2/+29trying to find money any way they can with horrible cd sales
- Acesolid, on 06/22/2009, -2/+28What the hell! Ringtones already cost much more then they are worth! So how much should they cost according to the ASCAP? 100$ like in GTA4?
- hawkspur, on 06/22/2009, -0/+23This is retarded. This copyright garbage is really out of hand.
- Xplorer, on 06/22/2009, -0/+23Dream on Hooker, Dream the ***** on....
- swordedge, on 06/22/2009, -0/+21These people are trying to figure out how to make you pay them whenever you get a tune stuck in your head.
- VitaminCrack, on 06/22/2009, -0/+20Wow, what next? Will I get sued because my music was on a bit loud and other people could hear it through my headphones? How about when I whistle a well-known tune?
- snakehxc, on 06/22/2009, -0/+18Someday soon the current music business model is going to collapse into a smoldering heap of excrement.
- dirtmonkey, on 06/22/2009, -3/+20ASCAP helping no talent poets get paid since 1950!
Seriously you pen one song and if it goes big you think you are entitled to a paycheck the rest of your life? What about painters and architects? Should the painter get paid every time someone looks at his creation in any form of print, side of bus, or original - even after it has been sold a million times? Or what about the architect should he get paid every time a building he designed gets bought and sold, or should he get a cut every time someone drives by a building he designed?
***** ASCAP and RIAA !!! - thrashermx, on 06/22/2009, -1/+18Their sons want a new Ferrari..
- robbiedo, on 06/22/2009, -0/+16I wrote/copyrighted/published a 3 minute song called, "Vibrate."
- jpjandrade, on 06/22/2009, -0/+15Seriously, sometimes I wonder how these people think we should use their products, like, the ideal costumer.
"Hey Joe, have you seen the new Clint Eastwood movie?"
"No, I haven't. Have you Bill?"
"Yes, my daughter gave me the DVD. It absolutely amazing. I'll bring it tomorrow so you can watch it."
"Get the ***** OUT OF HERE Bill. That's YOUR DVD. I'll buy my own if I want to see the movie. Otherwise I'm stealing!" - paloooz, on 06/22/2009, -0/+14ASCAP can gobble my dick.
- PaulClayberg, on 06/22/2009, -0/+14This MUST be satire... Please, tell me this is satire.
- l800LEMMINGS, on 06/22/2009, -0/+14i know a few friends who worked for ascap and all quit because of how unrealistic the goals of the company were, and the ways ascap tried to go about it. They got into it because they loved music and wanted to help artists and eventually it broke their heart because it has nothing to do with that and all about dictatorship of copyrights.
- PenisBreath, on 06/22/2009, -0/+14OM NOM NOM
- Suzuka09, on 06/22/2009, -0/+13Next we're gunna have to pay for everytime we listen to a song
- itsbob, on 06/22/2009, -0/+13***** you!
I suppose if I revert to a standard ringing sound AT&T or Bell would want a freakin cut to. - leontes, on 06/22/2009, -1/+14I want a public source database free of threat of "copyright infringement". Artists, producers, content owners can file their data there when they don't want to be bothered with suing people for legitimate use. This isn't to say that this people won't sell their items, but rather give permission for the items to be used without these ridiculous threats. I think we are heading in this direction anyway: when it comes to ASCAP, MPAA, RIAA the absurdity of these scare tactics have dampened real use of materials.
This is a scary kind of big brother: not run to control the populace's beliefs, but rather their pocketbooks. Let's head it off at the past, by inviting content creators to label their stuff as free. - JDex, on 06/22/2009, -0/+12I've come to a conclusion... the RIAA and ASCAP have essentially been taken over by the nut jobs who think that dancing is a sin. They basically want to push music, dancing and any form of enjoyment out of human society... and are doing it through making all music over-produced, cookie cutter crap and trying to make it illegal to enjoy it. They don't really want our money, they want us to be miserable.
- gangsterunicorn, on 06/22/2009, -0/+11if the riaa is nazis, then ascap is the ss
- rossisdead, on 06/22/2009, -0/+11You're doing something wrong if you pay for ringtones.
- dupajuda, on 06/22/2009, -0/+11the word ascap sounds like some kind of rape protection
- LargeStack, on 06/22/2009, -0/+10Ass Cap
Who's responsible for that one? - ChrisHB, on 06/22/2009, -1/+11Greed. Pure greed.
- andymadigan, on 06/22/2009, -0/+10The time to charge for it is when the song is acquired the first time. Taking a cut of it and playing it as a ringtone is just a personal use of the song you already own a license to. Should I have to "pay the artists" every time I copy a song from my computer to my iPod? How about if I burn it to a mixed CD, do I have to pay again? Just how many times am I supposed to pay for the same song? I assume I'll also need to pay for each person I play it for on my stereo? I better not bring a boombox to the beach or to a party, it could put me in the poor house.
If the artists really think they have the right to charge us for each non-commercial use of a song, rather than just acquiring it, well then, give me a list of those artists that believe that so I can be sure not to buy anything from them. - Markers, on 06/22/2009, -0/+9Shhhh! Don't give them any ideas...
- mintok, on 06/22/2009, -0/+9head someone off at the pass
Fig. to intercept someone. (From Old West movies. Fixed order.) I need to talk to John before he gets into the boss's office. I'll head him off at the pass. The sheriff set out in a hurry to head Jed off at the pass.
http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/head+off+at+th ... - ParticleMan420, on 06/22/2009, -1/+10they did when they licensed their songs to be sold as ringtones.
- JackGrinnan, on 06/22/2009, -0/+8Whoever actually thought of this, seriously, just go away.
- linagee, on 06/22/2009, -0/+7Is it possible to have ASCAP just take away the annoying ring tones?
- stuffradio, on 06/22/2009, -0/+7A Girl scouts fire to be exact!
- 4NDr01D, on 06/22/2009, -0/+7I think you owe royalties to John Cage's 4'33 minutes of Silence
- Khast, on 06/22/2009, -0/+6If it hasn't already.....
They just put perfume on it, and a cardboard cut out to hide the fact.. - krillr, on 06/22/2009, -0/+6funny, i always thought ass-cap was synonymous with butt-plug.

it just sounds like someone is trying to double dip.
maybe ascap should talk to the riaa about letting them in on the deal if they were to shortsighted to plan for this. - joebagodonuts, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4Oh no. ASCAP is serious.
- baines, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4I always giggle like a schoolgirl when I hear ASCAP.
