- kamel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+106But you have to blow on it if the tracks start to skip?
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -0/+87"Chiptune musician Alex Mauer's new album Vegavox is available now as a €22 NES cartridge, which seems like a very neat way to get around the bootleggers."
And around record sales, apparently. - devilspy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+61I'm sure someone will rip it,so we can play it on our emulators :)
- fudgeigor, on 10/11/2007, -1/+45NES, possibly the only format The Dark Side of The Moon hasn't been released on?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21my nes has rca out on it, that can be ripped
- gmprunner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20Personally I would have gone with Game Boy Color cartridges, hand-held playback and smaller size.
- bobcrotch, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15This is the most indie thing possible.
Edit Unless someone found a way to release music on a vintage 10 speed or women's jeans. - rcran, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16Dude.
- doodoodoodoo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Chiptunes? Just make sure Timbaland doesn't get his hands on it...
- icedevil6, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11What you say is true, but the NES cartridges hold such a nostalgic value.
- GRVeee2, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11HAHAH i was just going to ask: any one have the ROM yet?
- rcran, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Wax cylinder.
- carpespasm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9as badly as they mess with some of their recordings it wouldn't surprise me.
- DaveyDeadite, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9automatic digg for having 'Dude' in the headline.

http://chiptunes.back2roots.org/ - ginrummy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I hear the NES cartridge cleaner works wonders too.
- Kormiku, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6time to get out my nose and blower
- supermanred, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Awesome! The rom should be online soon.
- merreborn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4And sound quality. Last I checked, NES cartridges only held a few megabit...

.... Sounds like NES music. Why would I pay 22 Euros for this? NES games are generally cheaper than that, and many have music that is at least comperable. - Dragular, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Dark Side of the Moon NES... this, my friends, someone at 8bitpeoples needs to get to work on.
- carpespasm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3someone could just hook up to the audio out port too, but that would lose some of the neatness. how about a rom rip with the menu converted to a dvd menu with the audio playing. MUAHAH...?
- carpespasm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3not really, i can't say i've ever seen an nes cart that was dead by any means other than massive case breaking trauma or getting wet. hell, i had a friend when i was little who left a mario/duck hunt outside for a week, it was fine. audio tapes are pretty tough too compared to cds.
- sardiax, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4this comment is most awesomely lolworthy.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3"But you have to blow on it if the tracks start to skip?"
Ah, the ol' times... - dbr_onix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Once again proving, if it's playable, it's pirate'able..
- sinembarg0, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2He's a chiptune musician. It's supposed to sound like that, and would sound like that no matter what media he used to distribute it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/chiptunes - Thomasson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2That's hilariously insane. So, what, iPod in the left pocket, then a NES, mini tv, power adaptor and large solar panel / car battery in the other?
Oh, and rofl at "Hecubus" as a track name. Kids in the Hall, remember? - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You did this in the first reply. Then in your own comment. Then you went to a youtube link below to do it again.
I think we get it... - themastersb, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Nowadays we have mold growing on our Bluray disks
- RandomSkratch, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2No kidding... of all the places to steal from...
- Trax91, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Sweet.
- idonthack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1What? And GameBoy carts don't?
- Terr01, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Like sinembarg0 said (Or should I say, withoutexceptio|\| ? :P)...
CD gives you the music as a WAV file of the output of a console game.
Cartridge gives you the signals that make the console game make the sound.
In terms of artistic vision, the cartridge is BETTER sound quality, provided no super-fancy reverb effects etc. are part of it. - ophello, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Can you say "28kb NSF file"? As soon as someone ports this to a NES Sound Format file, it'll fly around the internets like dust in the wind.
- satzio, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Awesome! Thanks for posting this, I'm going to show this to my friends in the Music Composition department!
- DBFT, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1To be fair, smarth is ***** too
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1ROM Please
- moojj, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Looks more like a personal challenge to him, not a way to get around bootleggers.
- QWE2323, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0this has been done before, a few times actually. And it was better music.
- Sixcolors, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Seed plz!
- fety, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Dude, it's not cool to not have a old school NES. like... dude, what are you thinking?!
- solemnraven, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Screw you jerk face, this guy sucks and I'm just trying to spread the word about smarth because he is vastly under appreciated and has little exposure.
- supermauerbros, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1As an avid video game nerd, and as a Mauer I applaud this release!
- Gobd, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1How does this stop people from pirating it again? We have every single NES game ripped to a rom, we can just rip this, emulate it, and record the sound and it's good to go. Makes it slightly harder, but I'm sure with this publicity it will be ripped and available in not time.
- skyshock1, on 10/11/2007, -3/+0As opposed to an audio cd? I don't know man, none of my NES cartridges are broken.
- kizzbizz, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2....seconded. Dude.
- rmetzger, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2I don't see how that will stop bootleggers as all NES games have been ripped and emulated.
