- dvsbastard, on 01/11/2008, -2/+28You can download free music on the web...?! Since when?!?!?!?!
- warlokaz2004, on 01/11/2008, -3/+27I'm a big fan of Pandora (www.pandora.com) -- I like how you can create a station based on your musical interests, and it helps you discover new music by playing music from other musicians/group that have aesthetic similaritites to your own preferred groups
- cynic573, on 01/11/2008, -0/+23intitle:"index.of" (mp3|mp4|wma) ...?
- pelman, on 01/11/2008, -1/+21Nice list but Idon't think they mentioned b3ta cr3ation
www.b3ta.cr3ation.co.uk/site/music-plus/

- stevobengtson, on 01/11/2008, -0/+13Using Songbird you can search these sites and more for music online, also you can add new sites as you find them. Check out : http://www.songbirdnest.com

replace nirvana with any band name or song name and there you go - Xizer, on 01/11/2008, -0/+8What the hell free music on the Internet? Holy *****!
- funkywood, on 01/11/2008, -0/+6Me too. Sadly it's being discontinued next week in the UK. The US is the only place left you're supposed to use it and might not be far behind. A perfect example of the greed of the music industry helping its downfall since Pandora was a stream of income for artists you might not have otherwise heard.
- ahughes, on 01/11/2008, -0/+6One app here that isn't mentioned, which I absolutely love, is Songbird. For anyone that doesn't know about it...
It's basically a mashup between iTunes and Firefox. Go to http://www.songbirdnest.com to check it out. - Sphike, on 01/11/2008, -0/+5Aren't the chances of you getting caught by using P2P less than that of getting killed from casual activities?
- rpong1981, on 01/11/2008, -1/+6thank you digg for the block feature.
- andycr512, on 01/11/2008, -0/+5And the report feature.

- vawksel, on 01/19/2008, -0/+1I think JukeFly is a better alternative to things like Anywhere.fm and a hell of a lot easier to setup than messing with Orb, it's almost no-setup and it just works, plus it's got a nice desktop-like application feel to it in your browser.
It takes like 6 minutes to sync up the id3tag data of 9,000 songs so you can play your music or listen to it from different machines.
Some dude on there has over 40,000 songs that he can access... how long would that take to upload to somewhere like Anywhere.fm. bah. Sure the one downside is your computer's gotta be on, but mine is anyways.
http://jukefly.com - nopointinnames, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2Around 26,000 have been sued while there are over 15 million downloaders. So your chances are about 0.17% or much less.
- jfg84, on 01/11/2008, -2/+3It's not like most of these sites are the legal alternative to P2P. I know lifehacker doesn't say they are but I think some people would think that's what they're implying.
- kualla, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2streamripper? find a streaming radio station you like, leave it on over night then in the morning you have 8 hours of music to chose from... not greatest for finding a particular song but great for gathering lots of new music
- funkywood, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2Note I said "supposed to use it" :)
- penelopa727, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1don't forget you can rip free music off youtube
i use this youtube downloader and converter: http://www.youtubeclipextractor.com - donna1234, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1 In the past year the number of web sites linking to free downloads and streaming music has exploded of new features

http://www.e-uuu.com/ - Chirp08, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2what kind of "music" are you listening to?
- wrestlingnrj, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2I'm listening to Pandora right now.
- zombies187, on 01/12/2008, -1/+2This article is a good place to start. I've never had a problem with torrents, so utorrent is a good app. Firefox + torrent finder toolbar should lead you to every torrent tracker you need. Just scan things as you download and don't worry so much! :)
- BodomChild16, on 01/11/2008, -2/+3Use Google to Steal Music! =)
http://www.g2p.org/ - sgtpppr, on 01/11/2008, -2/+3You're like Google...except with crappy sites and Excel.
- dutchjingles, on 09/18/2008, -0/+1Another site which makes it easy to search and download free mp3's: http://mp3xchg.com/
- Bodhidharmazen, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2agreed I can't listen to Pandora anymore, those money whores on the US are obnoxious.
- sonicjosh, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2And thats how I found my favorite music site, skreemr.
- Gabberwok, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2He's just mad that Ron Paul is losing...
- RedS0x, on 01/11/2008, -1/+1^ WINNER!
- ramasay, on 01/11/2008, -0/+0Thans for sharing.
- Jerky1312, on 01/11/2008, -1/+1Those who like mixtapes...
www.datpiff.com (all free to download) - bankhead, on 01/11/2008, -1/+1I didn't see it on the list but Slacker.com is also a good one!
- karbonx, on 01/11/2008, -1/+1just to let you guys now, if you go on the mobile version of seeqpod, www.seeqpod.com/m when you search for songs it sends you directly to the url of the song, so you don't have to retype it as if you would on the regular version with the flash player
- phazon88, on 01/11/2008, -3/+3How could they leave out Pirate Bay?
- Chirp08, on 01/11/2008, -1/+1this used to be great, but now you'll get a lot of crap. It's easy to spoof a url and lead you in circles. These sites actually cut out the middle garbage, and if you try out the cr3ation b3ta in the first comment you'll see that there are a ***** of "rejected" mp3s which include the bad links/fake files.
- Daniel15, on 01/12/2008, -1/+1I like Songza.com for streaming... It's got a nice, very easy to use interface :)
- wontstoptalking, on 01/11/2008, -1/+1By the way, when you find it you have to click on "visit site" and then copy the url of the mp3 to your address bar. Duh.
- Jerky1312, on 01/11/2008, -1/+1Is that the best stream ripping software out there? I remember using it a while back and it had some issues. One, it would sometimes group two tracks together, usually if one of the tracks was short. Second, it would cut the track off prematurely, cutting off about 10-15 seconds off the end of one track and putting those chopped of seconds on the next track. This was about a year and a half ago, I'm not sure if they have a new version that has fixed these issues or not.
