I use that, works pretty well for me, idk... - Erroneus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3note: It doesn't work if you are using the danish iTunes shop
- zyopski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There is an automatic way to do this. Yahoo has a program called Konfabulator which allows windows users to run widgets on their desktop. One of the widgets out there (either itunes bar or companion) automatically goes and fetches album art when you play a song, and automatically updates itunes by attaching the art to every song in the album, which in turn updates across to your ipod. There is no manual intervention required. 100% automatic, and better than this manual method imo.
Cheers. - chicagobiker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Voltron:
Other stuff is pretty damn high-res: http://a1.phobos.apple.com/Music/y2005/m09/d19/h16/mzi.mfzifpxv.600x600-100.jpg - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1iTunes doesn't use any special method to tag songs, so there's no reason why your ID3 tags are messed up.
Also, sound check DOES NOT edit song files. I just assigns each song a dB level and stores it with the library. iTunes normalizes songs in real-time. Once again, it's a nondestructive process here.
Do some research before you tear apart Apple products please. - Sawed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks like the game is up. Apple seems to have blocked access.
Well....as the site says, this trick has come to its end. :( - Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Christ, why is the file sizes so large for the 600x600 jpg's? Freakin 400+KB's on average?
That's really going to increase the size of my 3500+ mp3/aac collection. - Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3damnit... i meant...
Is it really png's renamed as jpg's, or something?
I'm really drunk. - ketsugi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can't imagine why I'd want 600x600 album art anyway. 200x200 is usually more than enough for viewing either in iTunes or on an iPod. Not much point going higher unless you don't own the original CD inlay to look at!
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1P.S. I'm being serious... does anyone know why?
Is really png's renamed as mp3's, or something?
Are they using an extreamly high jpg compression level?
What possible reason is there for this? I wonder if they factor this in when they say "1000 songs in your pocket, well, unless you get them from the iTMS, then it's only 900, cause of that dang album art." - haileyz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you only knew how many hours I've spent using google image... THIS ROCKS!
- Seaton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I will agree some of the automatic programs get the job done faster, but most of the time you end of with crappy artwork.
I have actually paid for tracks off iTunes just to get the artwork. Even when I already owned the CD.
+Digg - Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's a few examples of the large filesizes for majority of covers I've downloaded.
http://a1.phobos.apple.com/Music/y2003/m3/d10/h13/s01.otbutdic.600x600-100.jpg
http://a1.phobos.apple.com/Music/y2003/m04/d08/h00/s03.vuxokxbf.600x600-100.jpg
http://a1.phobos.apple.com/Music/y2005/m07/d22/h08/mzi.qfwdqbmy.600x600-100.jpg
Most of the covers I've downloaded were like this, but there are also some in there that are 600x600 and compressed nicely, and others that are way UNDER compressed (in the 30-70KB range), like Amazon.com's covers. Also, there are a many 300x300 covers that range in compression.
The 600x600 OVER compressed covers look great, but these filesize is way too much. - slothdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Chanibus,
Thanks. I'm the one that wrote the SlothRadio cover finder. This iTunes one is slick too, though. - Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1zyopski:
Yes, but iTunes Companion gets its art from Amazon. I've checked a few tracks, and the high res artwork from this method here gets some of the best quality images I've ever seen. Easily better than Amazon's highest res files. - HANABI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Too bad this doesn't work for the Japan store.
- eternal_wedgie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very cool...I do like that you have more control over what you can get from the music store.
Many more tools out there to search your library and do it for you though.
Love the tool...thanks. - Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where are you getting 400k on average? Most I'm looking at for the high res images are around 100k.
- blindog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice to have larger images for the album art. Adding more artwork ties in nicely with the iTunes Artwork screen saver in Tiger. Everyone in the office is always comments on how cool that is.
- princess_apple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm going to admit to being a total idiot and ask.
Where do the urls come from? So I can find an album in iTunes where do I copy the url from?
(I'm using iTunes 5.0 on Tiger) - stark23x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cvrefugee, you don't seem to get how iTunes works. First of all, I have tagged THOUSANDS of songs in Tag&Rename, made changes in iTunes and had the ID3 tags work in any ID3 capable program. You might want to explain the steps you take or at least ask someone who has done it sucessfully how to do it before you declare it crap.
Secondly, soundchecking does NOTHING AT ALL to your MP3 files. It stores the level info in the iTunes database. It doesn't alter the audio files at all.
Apple does a lot of dumb things and iTunes can always use improvement, especially on Windows, but c'mon, man...learn the software before you talk smack.
p_sawatzky - No Beatles or Zep because no license. You think Apple doesn;t want 'em? They know they could sell 'em. The people who control those catalogs say no.
princess apple; right or ctrl click any album art, you'll see a popup that says "Copy iTunes Music Store URL." That puts the URL onto yoru clipbaord so you can paste it anywhere like a regular link. You'll knwo it's an iTunes link because they all start with "http://phobos.apple.com" - goldenratiophi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks nice!

- lastvid, on 03/02/2009, -0/+0try http://www.album-cover-art.org for an easy way to search for album art.
- ManiacFive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ah, but downloading album art is the new alphabetising your records, widgets are just cheating :-)
No but seriously, the widgets are good but sometimes you get very small res albumn art, fine on my ipod, but i have itunes quit large on my cinema display, alot of them dont cut it.
This is a nice find +digg - command-tab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This rocks. Now let us see the source!
- domc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Try this site. This is where I get my DVD covers from. They pretty much have everything. CD covers and DVD covers and more.
http://www.cdcovers.cc/ - AdamWillis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0couldn't get this link to work http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?s=143441&playListId=75631779
- qwaszxplokij, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I call it "high res" because, compared to Amazon's covers, they're amazing quality. I've been trying to look at a way to search for an Artist/Album/Song, so you don't have to copy the URL .. but I haven't quite figured it out yet.
- sych0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0btw, these files are embedded in the songs when you buy them. if you check the properties, and the artwork tab, you can drag and drop the art to the desktop. Turns out theyre bitmaps (which explains why the files are so large). I wonder if the website is just doing a quick convert to jpg or what.
- samgab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OH! This is beautiful! I love the simple litle page. Just a few words, simple and functional. Just fantastic. Less is more.
- dan4321, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A much easier utility for this (as long as you're running OS X) is a program called Fetch Art. Just open up iTunes and select all the music you want art for. Then open Fetch Art and it'll download all the album covers from Amazon. Check it out here: http://members.cox.net/afriesen/fetchart/index.html
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone know how to get around the following issue?
When you try to get the art for albums that have custom background images on their album's page, like the below foo fighters album, you don't get the album art, you get the damn custom background image.
This Foo Fighters album...
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playListId=68615813
gives you this image...
http://a1.phobos.apple.com/Features/y2005/m06/d13/h09/dj.nyazhuad.jpg - skyhighrockets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0brilliant, ive geen waiting for this a very long time.
- coffeegeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Brilliant, Any bets on how long until Apple finds out and kills it?
- sergio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just use FetchArt. Quality is good enough for me when it's displayed in the SizzlingKeys popup or on my iPod nano's screen.
- scropp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great stuff!
Shame I have to switch over to the US store to be able to use it. :( - p_sawatzky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Excellent source for album art. Unfortunately, no Beatles or Led Zeppelin, which begs the question, why aren't the Beatles and Led Zeppelin on iTunes?!
- catchermag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here's the link for the AlbumArt Widget. Not always the highest res artwork, but definitely easier than searching for thousands of album covers.
AlbumArt - iaskedTGT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here for all those with Windows use this to fix you art http://www.avsoft.nl/ArtFixer/default.htm
- billpoly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So, this is only for albums that are in the iTMS? It's a nice idea and the content is great, but unfortunately most of the albums that I need art for are albums I ripped. I have quite a large CD collection and hardly any album art. I downloaded some tools to automate pulling album art but haven't given any the college try yet. If anyone has good suggestions for a tool to pull album art for albums in an iTunes library in Windows (sorry...) I'd love to hear.

-21 - trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0totally kick ass, no more low res amazon.com albums.
- leighedwards, on 01/29/2009, -0/+0Dammit, it's not working. It just says:
"Got something unexpected:" - mehron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does this site not load for anyone else, as of today?
I hope it'll come up again. :( - squirt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lovin' it!
http://a1.phobos.apple.com/Music/y2005/m05/d26/h21/s06.mwomqcas.600x600-100.jpg - Temoshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At 600x600 pixels, I wouldn't call it "hi-res," but the covers are usually pretty high-quality and it iTunes has quite a wide selection, so this gets a digg from me.
I tried this using covers from the Japanese iTunes Music Store and it gives some kind of error. Hopefully whoever made this will figure out and to do it for the other Music Stores as well. - catchermag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/music/albumartwidget.html
sorry, not too familiar with html. - terrya64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Beatles have not yet been licensed for mp3 downloads.
