- dasdef, on 03/13/2009, -1/+24whaaat? simply dugg because i would never expect qbert to be on front page. i mean hes awesome and completely deserving of it, but im just a bit surprised to see him on here!! Qbert is the shiznit
- rezist, on 03/13/2009, -1/+22It hasn't gone anywhere, never did.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKD0dJvaPOU - HesComing, on 03/13/2009, -0/+14Great--now I'll be thinking "ma- ma- ma- making me itch" for the rest of the day.
- davdev, on 03/13/2009, -0/+12It's lost art, unfortuantly. Too many lawsuits cut down on creative sampling, so now we are stuck with overproduced Timbaland crap.
Also, vinyl is really starting to disappear, even a lot of the big name DJ's have moved over to CD "turntables" which are OK, but certainly don't have the sound of a proper break on a TT. - LordStandley, on 03/13/2009, -0/+12How bout you shut the ***** up.
- unitedkronos, on 03/13/2009, -2/+12For those who like crazy scratching skills, here's a video of DJ Yoda scratching to, and with, a DVD clip of Back To The Future.

- morrisonm, on 03/13/2009, -0/+8exactly! man 10 years went toooooo fast. I saw the picklz at City Nights in SF about that time, that ***** was so revolutionary.
- jodhas, on 03/13/2009, -1/+8Everything makes a comeback. The art of scratching will make a comeback. Hopefully...
- CaptObvious, on 03/13/2009, -0/+7If you have to ask that question, you're too old.
- inactive, on 03/13/2009, -0/+7i hate to admit it but i digg pretty much anything that has BTTF in it
- mrheavysilence, on 03/13/2009, -0/+6But Turntablism's philosophy is more about the art of sound. Melody is very important, but sometimes its not even needed to generate interest. There are lots of drumline solos that are fun to listen to. As for building up tension, that's more of the normal structure for classical music. There are no structural norms in turntablism. But if you want to see melody or tones, then watch this DJ video of Kentaro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQQex1BNpO0
- cowninja, on 03/13/2009, -1/+7I saw Qbert at a party in southern California around 1998. Refering to it as the 'hip-hop of yesteryear' really makes me feel aged... sigh..
- inactive, on 03/13/2009, -0/+5Hey there......remember the 40s?
- Klak, on 03/13/2009, -0/+5timbaland uses plenty of samples, he jsut gets them cleared. also, most people moving to digital djing are still using decks, just with some sort of controller like serato
- deadasdisco, on 03/13/2009, -0/+4what do you mean, "you people"
- scenefiend, on 03/13/2009, -0/+4explain yourself.

- TheFrozenOne, on 03/13/2009, -1/+5i still got my 1200's and vinyl. Push Play DJ's suk.
- JCEEZ, on 03/13/2009, -0/+4They are 2 completely different types of djs. One is a technical battle/scratch dj, the other is a party dj. It's like the difference between a break dancer and a ball room dancer.
Q-bert doesn't put out mixtapes and stuff really, cus what he does consists of a looped beat and a battle record.
In other news, check out DJ Kentaro and DJ Craze.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAF6VZQamtw - Larssonk22, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3He is legend, others like Yoda and Scratch Perverts got me hooked. All amazing, see them live if you can!
- inactive, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2You're missing the point the point is the creativity that man has to create something new and a whole new genre of music i might add.. now people are remixing youtube video's awesome
- BrogMaN, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3Damn! Qbert is so good.
I went to LoveFest in San Fransisco a couple years ago and saw Q bert play a set. After he got off stage, a friend and I caught up with him to compliment him on his set and just be able to say we met Q bert. When we asked him "Hey, are you DJ Q Bert?" he turned around, smiled, gave a little chuckle and said "Sorry man, no, I'm not." Then he continued walking away, leaving me and my friend to wonder... - IllestGodzira, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3add faderless scratching to the list
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laivfpJkdbc - JCEEZ, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3Im not going to lie, I am VERY VERY VERY surprised this is front page material. Q-bert is crazy talented. The Tony Hawk / Michael Jordan of his domain.
- BeefEnchilada, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3Klak beat me to it. Serato pwns
- raydeen, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3holy *****...

- booticon, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2Required Qbert viewing: Wave Twisters.
Here's part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Rh0M-B2PcM - RobotKing, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2Cutting dubplates is sort of costly and if you just finished a track and want to try it out something like Serato helps out.
The cost to get vinyl made going up a few years back also doesn't help much. =/ - inactive, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2---------------- wat -----------------
- protogenxl, on 03/13/2009, -2/+4Not Geeky Enough
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7RlIZywxNQ - rezist, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2There are many turntablists out there that still scratch vinyl and sample old 45's. Just look. It's as prominent as it ever was. It was never mainstream (thank god) and it isn't now. Just go to a site like lastFM type in a Dj's name (cut chemist for example) and look through the similar artists for starters. Look around the city where you live too for live gigs or competitions.
- etx313, on 03/13/2009, -1/+3Q-Bert used to play at underground parties in Detroit like every month! Ahh the mid 90' were so fun!
- vtbarrera, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2Oh ***** really! I love the Invisible Scratch Piklz, they're one of my favorite DJ Scratch crews of all time. I hope ya'll remember the ITF finals of '99: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0S84ASbMAM
Scratch Perverts > Beatjunkies any day of the ***** week! - SirRealist, on 03/14/2009, -0/+2Dugg for A-Trak. I caught him at a party in T-Dot back in the day. Amazing..I'd have to day damn near as good as Q.
- Janv1er, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2Not the best vid but still dugg :)
- BeefEnchilada, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2Craze was WAY better
- ever, on 03/14/2009, -0/+2If you guys are into music made with turntables, check out Kid Koala's albums too. He's releasing on Ninja Tune, an excellent British label. Koala's music isn't exactly hip hop but the way he uses the turntables to create music is just beautiful.
Qbert's & Dstyles' "Hotsauce in the Dickhole" and "Underarms R Fun" mixtapes are awesome too! :)
There are the turntablists that focus on sheer technical skills and then there are those who actually create art with those skills :). - migatikon, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2Check out DJ Fly, last year's DMC champion. He uses Serato! This is the future of turntablism:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iZdggruFpY - MrChunks, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2Still not geeky enough.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crPxC9HnXnM - JCEEZ, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2Dude, there is no denying they have COMPLETELY different styles. And no, jrocc never won a DMC
http://www.dmcdjchamps.com/worldchamps.asp
I'm not saying jrocc can't scratch or juggle or anything, but that's not what he is known for. Beat Junkies are amazing. - unitedkronos, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1Be sure to play some Slipknot.
