We might start a vigilante group to hunt these guys down.

On Black backpack with Sony headphones, tools, etc.- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6They won't be able to sell them at pawn shops... I'm thinking they'll probably just try to sell them on the street. It'll be really hard to track this stuff down. Maybe they'll try to go online with it too. Check ebay and Craigslist...
- sdubois92, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2How much money do u think it is all worth
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Why? Are you trying to get rid of it?
- xuxa, on 10/12/2007, -5/+230K
- elvissinatra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18This ***** happens way too often.
- sinisterkungfu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It happened to Camper Van Beethoven TWICE on their tour last year
- The_Wallbanger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Happened to Pretty Girls Make Graves too.
- tdogg241, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Streetlight Manifesto was robbed twice last year, losing over $100k worth of equipment.
Here's a list of stories from the past few years from one website:
http://punknews.org/search/stolen+gear
The saddest thing is these are mostly small to medium size bands that it happens to, and a lot of these bands have enough trouble making ends meet as it is. To lose all their gear is a major blow to their ability to survive. - jamsea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I heard about the streetlight manifesto robbery too, they must of had it really bad considering all the instruments they play.
- frostedflakes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sonic Youth also.
- Coven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25...and that is why you don't leave expensive things in a trailer parked in Long Island City. I wouldn't leave a Yugo parked there.
- ScornForSega, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15...and that is why I wouldn't be touring with vintage gear in the first place. I'd hate to have a knockoff reissue stolen, much less an original.
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2right said Fred...
- dfexpc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually the trick is to back the trailer up against a wall as close as you can . so that even if you cut the lock off ,,, you can't open the doors to get in . You'd have you use an axe and cut a hole in the roof or something ...
- pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Sounds like another case for the Digg Detective Agency!
- affanjam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19You don't want the Digg lawyers after you, change the name.
- pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Social News Site Detective Agency just doesn't have the same ring to it.
- chaosmachine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i duno.. SNeSDA sounds pretty good to me.
- ScottMaximus, on 10/12/2007, -50/+12Who is Dinosaur Jr. and Why do I care about their Gear?
- samfold, on 10/12/2007, -40/+10I agree, since when did digg become a lost and found?
If everytime someone lost something it got posted to digg it would be a complete joke.
So some rockstars lost their guitars, well... buy some more? Its not like they are short on money or something. - violentvinyl, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24Who is ScottMaximus? And why do I care about his comment?
Exactly. - alvarobernal, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I know if I had $50,000+ worth of stolen equipment, I'd be posting everywhere. So I can completely see why this is here. Put yourself in their situation, I know you would take advantage of Digg.
- samfold, on 10/12/2007, -40/+10I agree, since when did digg become a lost and found?
- knupso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Wow I didn't know they were still around. I used to listen to Dinosaur Jr back when I was in Highschool. I hope they get their stuff back.
- sinisterkungfu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6They just got back together with the original lineup (J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph) last year
- idesign, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3One of the best music videos of the 90s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsyxr_-prp8 - dHolbach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If Sonic Youth can have their gear recovered, so can Dinosaur Jr.
- sixlocal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I only thought they recovered a single guitar from their big robbery
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3You mean if SY can have their career recovered,
so can Dinosaur Jr.?
Jr lost me at that fantastic golfcart music video...- treleung, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Did you miss "Rather Ripped"? I'd say Sonic Youth got their career back, and then some. They had a couple weak records in the last few years, but Rather Ripped is a fantastic and solid album.
- AwesomeMonster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Rather ripped was awful. They jsut took out all that was fun about the group and went genric. Hell thats the only sonic youth album ive been upset with in a while. Nurse was much better.
- plarp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i love dinosaur j! i wish they would have played more mid-90's stuff when they wore in town earlier this year.. this being said... lets find their stuff!
- sinisterkungfu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The problem with the mid 90's stuff is that Lou Barlow wasn't involved. Now that he's back with them, they're playing mostly older stuff. It also doesn't hurt that they just reissued their first 3 albums not too long ago.
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They lost me when lou barlow was not involved...
- sinisterkungfu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Same. Although I did enjoy Green Mind.
- autob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6NO band deserves this, especially one that has been around for such a long time. However, you would think that all that road experience would have caused them to be a little more careful with where they left their trailer full of equipment.
- slickricks, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1Wow, I'm impressed this managed to have a semi-relevant subheading to be filed under. While I sympathize with these guys for their loss, digg has been straying from what it does best because of the flood of extraneous and inappropriate stories. Post this on craigslist, not digg.
- Capta1nA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3maybe they had a newbie at the wheel when the trailer got parked.
I often worry about this when my bands gig. It's very easy to accumulate over $20,000 worth of gear between a few people (not including vehicle!). good luck dino jr
- rideroyals, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats all bad news. Wish of luck on getting the gear back. Dinosaur jr. rocks
- blogjam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Expensive and unique, and an onstage set-up unlike anyone else:
http://guitargeek.com/rigview/223/- sixlocal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Except for maybe Thurston Moore, Johnny Greenwood, Muse, etc. etc. etc.
- ricepudd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You'd need feet like Michael Flatley to operate all those pedals!
- sixlocal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Except for maybe Thurston Moore, Johnny Greenwood, Muse, etc. etc. etc.
- johanm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2J Mascis (and the fog) makes some great music, if you havent heard it. you should check it out.
- TheNoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I can't reach anyone at the numbers provided in the article so I'll try here. (In case the original poster follows up here...)
I have a B.C. Rich Warlock bass that I bought around 1987 that I'll gladly give to you guys.
It's not pretty (I did a "custom" paint job on it when I was 16) and I haven't played it in about 6 years, but it's yours if you need/want it.
I love Dinosaur Jr. and will gladly help out in any way possible.- sixlocal, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2They laugh at your deathmetal bass.
- TheNoot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Funny, they have one in the list of missing gear.
- GhengisKhan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6People who steal make me ***** sick.
- sinisterkungfu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9KHAAAAN!
- ra3ndy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"and conquering, raping and pillaging half of the eurasian continent doesn't?"
What, just like Dinosaur Jr did? What the hell are you talking about?
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Long Island City (where the gear was stolen) is in Queens, not Brooklyn.
- FishPoisonCon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3exactly.
...and none of that gear was "irreplaceable" not even the Rickenbacker Bass or the 65 Jazzmaster... harder to replace, but not impossible.
i (used to) like DJR and hope they get their gear back, but you can go to any guitar shop and get what you need to carry on, cancellations aren't totally necessary. (in fact, there is a guitar center right in LIC) - MKREdit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yes it would be a shame if people were scouring Brooklyn for the gear and its somewhere in Queens
- sixlocal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1To be fair, LIC is right at the Queens/Brooklyn border.
- tjstankus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5No guitar that you've played for years is replacable. Maybe you can get another one and carry on, but no, not replacable.
- FishPoisonCon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"yeah but going to guitar center is worse than death"
so true... just pointing out the most obvious solution
- FishPoisonCon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3exactly.
- nasalexportbeta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Gads! From what I heard those guitars make nice weapons, right Lou and J? hehe
seriously hope the gear gets back. I think you still need to hit WI! - noswar45, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6So sad. The cursed Dinosaur line... a similar thing happened to Dinosaur Sr., a swing band in the 40's had two trombones, one saxophone and a triangle stolen after a show at the Piedmont County Swing and Garlic Festival of 1942. Turned out to be their downfall. If history is any indicator, I just don't think Jr. will be able to maintain their superstardom fame status after such a devastating blow.
- Blackfish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sorry to hear about this. I have been following Dinosaur Jr. since almost the beginning. Great band... J is an amazing guitarist and it sucks that such beautiful instruments were taken.
Rally round the family people... I hope this gets sorted out quick. - mage1129, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3I feel bad about these people, but since when did digg become a message board for a band?
- sjgmoney, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7You're right, this space could be put to better use. I suggest another article about:

4. How Apple doesn't suck. - tdogg241, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Let's not forget these gems either:

6. How the Wii is/isn't going to be the greatest system of all time

- sjgmoney, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7You're right, this space could be put to better use. I suggest another article about:
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am so glad to find out the original lineup is back together... I'll be looking forward to seeing them around our neck of the woods soon.
- sinisterkungfu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1They've already been around here twice since they got back together, but I was unable to go both times =(
- dogfurnace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Off-topic:
I saw Stephen Malkmus in a bar in Amsterdam a couple years ago. In my fanboy excitement I had a brain fart and blurted out "hey man, aren't you J Mascis?? You guys rock!!". Malkmus kind of rolled his eyes, shook my hand and said "yeah man, thanks". I made it half way back to my table before realizing I had made the most uncool blunder of my life. I still wince when I think about it now, but I also think Malkmus was a dick for not correcting me.
Just thought I'd share, now digg me down if you must. Here's hoping a great band get their gear back...- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Funny story but you gotta admit that's a dickish thing to do to him in the first place. Your karma with Stephen Malkmus is now even and all is well in the universe.
- Sithlord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Crap. I think their playing Montreal this weekend...
- picaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow. Freak Scene. It's so ***** I can't believe it.
I saw them [way] back in the day in Jacksonville Beach, at Einstein-A-Go-Go. Amazing live show that nobody could touch, except maybe The Mats : )
Here's hoping that they get their gear back intact, and that karma takes care of the perpetrators. - szembek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Aren't there places in NYC where you could park something that valuable to you in a secured parking lot? It just seems silly if you don't have insurance to park all that ***** on the street. If they are insured, then yeah bummer, but no need to cancel shows, just go buy some new *****.
- picaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The article says they were parked outside the hotel--we don't know if it was on the street or not. A lot of Long Island City is pretty industrial and desolate, though.
But even if they have insurance, they want their original stuff back for their own good reasons. What's wrong with that? - The_Dude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Szembek, you've never owned a guitar have you...
- picaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The article says they were parked outside the hotel--we don't know if it was on the street or not. A lot of Long Island City is pretty industrial and desolate, though.
- chris_Austin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Best band ever. Lets track the thieves down and we'll work up a "Number 6" on 'em.
Just in case you're no familiar with a "Number 6" Well, that's where we go a-ridin' into town, a whampin' and whompin' every livin' thing that moves within an inch of its life. -Hedley Lamar - mudfly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This really sucks, I saw Witch and Dinosaur Jr in the spring of this year and they rocked. I re-posted this on my myspace profile bulletin, let's see if the social network turns up anything.
- buzzkiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn.. I am from Amherst, Ma. Had many a great conversation with Murph at bonducci's. If anyone from Djr is reading this, is Charlie still alive?
- popfrogs, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Doesn't surprise me at all. New York City = thief town. Remember the Sidekick phone debacle? Want to list the number of NYC-based Ebay scams? It's just a rotten apple.
- picaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Actually NYC's crime rate is the lowest among the 25 largest US cities:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_New_York_City
NYC is an incredibly friendly place. Have you ever actually been there? - shamam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes, please list the number of NYC-based eBay scams.
8 million people here, you think it's unlikely something wil be stolen occasonally?
Fool.
@picaman:
Clearly he has not!
- picaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Actually NYC's crime rate is the lowest among the 25 largest US cities:
- The_Dude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Woa, I can't believe they are still around! Gotta check out their stuff again.
- dallen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4So what? They'll just hit up Dinosaur Sr for some cash to replace it. Kids these days don't have any responsibility
- raoulduke87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just moved out of LIC recently and it is totally desolate. I lived there for 6 months and I had to get the hell out. I have friends that really enjoy it, but I just got sick of the latino gang presence and nothing being open after 9 o'clock.
- Cuja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3what a drag, well I hope those that stole from them has Karma come around and bite them in the ass. Why can't this happen to Yellowcard or HIM or the Pussycat dolls (well just kidnapping the band would work in that case)? I mean really why steal from bands that don't suck, when you could help the world and your pockets at the same time?
- raoulduke87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'd like to take this opportunity to ask someone to please steal Fall Out Boy's gear... Please
- sonicvince, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1damn...first Sonic Youth, then Jon Spencer and now Dinosaur Jr...
what I don't understand is why someone would steal that. I mean, they won't be able to sell that. Especially the SY gear. They'd be busted immediatly. Unless they are fanatics and just want with that gear in their basement... - hardkoretom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Getting their gear stolen isnt the worst thing or the least likely thing that can happen to a band. On Ill Ninos last tour, they got some of their ***** stolen. Fortunatly for most of the medium bands and up, their sponsors will get them new stuff before they have to hit the stage at the next show.
