- Coven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25...and that is why you don't leave expensive things in a trailer parked in Long Island City. I wouldn't leave a Yugo parked there.
- pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Sounds like another case for the Digg Detective Agency!
- violentvinyl, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24Who is ScottMaximus? And why do I care about his comment?
Exactly. - jeremiah, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Here is the list of gear that was stolen
Attached and listed below is a list of gear that was stolen out of the
Dinosaur Jr trailer last night (Tuesday 8.29.06) outside of their hotel
in Long Island City, NY. We would appreciate spreading the word and
passing this list around in hopes of recovering their gear. Please
notify and alert your local guitar shops, pawn shops, music and web
stores etc. to keep an eye out for this gear. Feel free to send this
list to any and all band, tour and production managers, guitar freaks,
touring personnel, venues, musicians and or thieves that you think
could help us.
If anyone has any information about this gear, please call Brian
Schwartz at the number below or on his cell at 303.956.9671 or Bart

On Black backpack with Sony headphones, tools, etc. - elvissinatra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18This ***** happens way too often.
- affanjam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19You don't want the Digg lawyers after you, change the name.
- savmac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16That sucks, Dinosaur Jr. kicks ass!
- pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Social News Site Detective Agency just doesn't have the same ring to it.
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Why? Are you trying to get rid of it?
- ScornForSega, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15...and that is why I wouldn't be touring with vintage gear in the first place. I'd hate to have a knockoff reissue stolen, much less an original.
- tdogg241, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Streetlight Manifesto was robbed twice last year, losing over $100k worth of equipment.
Here's a list of stories from the past few years from one website:
http://punknews.org/search/stolen+gear
The saddest thing is these are mostly small to medium size bands that it happens to, and a lot of these bands have enough trouble making ends meet as it is. To lose all their gear is a major blow to their ability to survive. - knupso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Wow I didn't know they were still around. I used to listen to Dinosaur Jr back when I was in Highschool. I hope they get their stuff back.
- thewaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Here is j mascis comlete setup.
http://guitargeek.com/rigview/223/
thats a TON of expensive equipment
and thsoe are some seriously irreplaceable classic guitars - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Long Island City (where the gear was stolen) is in Queens, not Brooklyn.
- TheNoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I can't reach anyone at the numbers provided in the article so I'll try here. (In case the original poster follows up here...)
I have a B.C. Rich Warlock bass that I bought around 1987 that I'll gladly give to you guys.
It's not pretty (I did a "custom" paint job on it when I was 16) and I haven't played it in about 6 years, but it's yours if you need/want it.
I love Dinosaur Jr. and will gladly help out in any way possible. - tdogg241, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Let's not forget these gems either:
5. How the PS3 will/won't make Sony tons of money
6. How the Wii is/isn't going to be the greatest system of all time
7. Michelle Malkin blogspam
8. The latest Colbert Report/Daily Show clip of hilarity - picaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Actually NYC's crime rate is the lowest among the 25 largest US cities:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_New_York_City
NYC is an incredibly friendly place. Have you ever actually been there? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9KHAAAAN!
- dogfurnace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Off-topic:
I saw Stephen Malkmus in a bar in Amsterdam a couple years ago. In my fanboy excitement I had a brain fart and blurted out "hey man, aren't you J Mascis?? You guys rock!!". Malkmus kind of rolled his eyes, shook my hand and said "yeah man, thanks". I made it half way back to my table before realizing I had made the most uncool blunder of my life. I still wince when I think about it now, but I also think Malkmus was a dick for not correcting me.
Just thought I'd share, now digg me down if you must. Here's hoping a great band get their gear back... - autob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6NO band deserves this, especially one that has been around for such a long time. However, you would think that all that road experience would have caused them to be a little more careful with where they left their trailer full of equipment.
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6They won't be able to sell them at pawn shops... I'm thinking they'll probably just try to sell them on the street. It'll be really hard to track this stuff down. Maybe they'll try to go online with it too. Check ebay and Craigslist...
- anthonyshere, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I hope they can recover the gear and can continue on with the tour.
I've seen 2 out of the 3 shows played all ready, and Dino sounds really, really good. - totaljerkface, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7yeah i'm on eckford st... it was less than a block away
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6People who steal make me ***** sick.
- sixlocal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Except for maybe Thurston Moore, Johnny Greenwood, Muse, etc. etc. etc.
- The_Wallbanger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Happened to Pretty Girls Make Graves too.
- picaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The article says they were parked outside the hotel--we don't know if it was on the street or not. A lot of Long Island City is pretty industrial and desolate, though.
But even if they have insurance, they want their original stuff back for their own good reasons. What's wrong with that? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6They just got back together with the original lineup (J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph) last year
- sjgmoney, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7You're right, this space could be put to better use. I suggest another article about:
1. How the Netscape community sucks
2. How Slashdot sucks
3. How Microsoft sucks
4. How Apple doesn't suck. - TheNoot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Funny, they have one in the list of missing gear.
- merm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Some of the locals are pretty pissed about it: http://www.astorians.com/index.php?topic=3218.0
We might start a vigilante group to hunt these guys down. - noswar45, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6So sad. The cursed Dinosaur line... a similar thing happened to Dinosaur Sr., a swing band in the 40's had two trombones, one saxophone and a triangle stolen after a show at the Piedmont County Swing and Garlic Festival of 1942. Turned out to be their downfall. If history is any indicator, I just don't think Jr. will be able to maintain their superstardom fame status after such a devastating blow.
- raoulduke87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'd like to take this opportunity to ask someone to please steal Fall Out Boy's gear... Please
- tjstankus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5No guitar that you've played for years is replacable. Maybe you can get another one and carry on, but no, not replacable.
- blogjam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Expensive and unique, and an onstage set-up unlike anyone else:
http://guitargeek.com/rigview/223/ - plarp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i love dinosaur j! i wish they would have played more mid-90's stuff when they wore in town earlier this year.. this being said... lets find their stuff!
- chris_Austin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Best band ever. Lets track the thieves down and we'll work up a "Number 6" on 'em.
Just in case you're no familiar with a "Number 6" Well, that's where we go a-ridin' into town, a whampin' and whompin' every livin' thing that moves within an inch of its life. -Hedley Lamar - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It happened to Camper Van Beethoven TWICE on their tour last year
- hardkoretom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Getting their gear stolen isnt the worst thing or the least likely thing that can happen to a band. On Ill Ninos last tour, they got some of their ***** stolen. Fortunatly for most of the medium bands and up, their sponsors will get them new stuff before they have to hit the stage at the next show.
- Capta1nA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3maybe they had a newbie at the wheel when the trailer got parked.
I often worry about this when my bands gig. It's very easy to accumulate over $20,000 worth of gear between a few people (not including vehicle!). good luck dino jr - Cuja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3what a drag, well I hope those that stole from them has Karma come around and bite them in the ass. Why can't this happen to Yellowcard or HIM or the Pussycat dolls (well just kidnapping the band would work in that case)? I mean really why steal from bands that don't suck, when you could help the world and your pockets at the same time?
- The_Dude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Szembek, you've never owned a guitar have you...
- FishPoisonCon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3exactly.
...and none of that gear was "irreplaceable" not even the Rickenbacker Bass or the 65 Jazzmaster... harder to replace, but not impossible.
i (used to) like DJR and hope they get their gear back, but you can go to any guitar shop and get what you need to carry on, cancellations aren't totally necessary. (in fact, there is a guitar center right in LIC) - MKREdit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yes it would be a shame if people were scouring Brooklyn for the gear and its somewhere in Queens
- dHolbach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If Sonic Youth can have their gear recovered, so can Dinosaur Jr.
- FishPoisonCon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"yeah but going to guitar center is worse than death"
so true... just pointing out the most obvious solution - chaosmachine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i duno.. SNeSDA sounds pretty good to me.
- mudfly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This really sucks, I saw Witch and Dinosaur Jr in the spring of this year and they rocked. I re-posted this on my myspace profile bulletin, let's see if the social network turns up anything.
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They lost me when lou barlow was not involved...
- jamsea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I heard about the streetlight manifesto robbery too, they must of had it really bad considering all the instruments they play.
