- actorboy, on 12/29/2007, -8/+336Awesome. Talented musician wins hearts and minds of those who never pay for music.
- darkchild82, on 12/29/2007, -13/+250it'd be a shame if she turned out to be someone who actually never used Digg & was only told to do so by some clever marketer (or friend) 'cos he/she knew it could help her become popular. Anyway, she's pretty & can sing - so you can't deny she isn't someone who doesn't fit today's music industry standards.
- gordongr, on 12/29/2007, -28/+158If ever there needed to be confirmation of the power of Digg, this is pretty good.
- Obsession88, on 12/29/2007, -19/+131She's super cute!!
- lordmutt, on 12/29/2007, -5/+105Digg girl, so young and sweet
Talented, and kinda neat
All the diggers went up in a roar!
Money galore from those record industry whores!
One sweet day, her music fills the air
And the digger says
***** it
I'll get it off ThePirateBay - rAid135, on 12/29/2007, -18/+104Well clearly she doesn't use digg, there are no girls on digg
- JoeDiggsIt, on 12/29/2007, -3/+84Shut up Mike.
- Tomboys, on 12/29/2007, -6/+59You mean like the Ron Paul girl?
- Pilot85, on 12/29/2007, -3/+53I musta been absent the week we saw the digg song, this is all new to me.
- Tomboys, on 12/29/2007, -11/+51I just hope she reads the contract carefully!
- Gimpishi, on 12/29/2007, -1/+37And they know that is super effective!!
- stukdog, on 12/29/2007, -3/+37The girl behind the table on the right looks like Winnie Cooper.
- duczduczducz, on 12/29/2007, -2/+36meta-digging...digging a song about digging....i love it!
- queenofgossip, on 12/29/2007, -6/+35Hey now! I LOVE Digg! I'm on here all day long.
- inactive, on 12/29/2007, -2/+29But you know we all assume you're fat and ugly... like us.
- ArkAngel06, on 12/29/2007, -2/+27She might not have even wrote the song, she just had to sing it...
Not saying thats how it happened, but its possible. - Shaman760, on 12/29/2007, -5/+29And now she's going to sell her soul to a corporate interest and sign away rights to her music forever......
As much as you guys complain about the RIAA you think this is a good thing?
She's better of getting some kind of a hook-up with licensing her tune to a Doritos commercial or something like that but my GOD a recording contract is as exciting as a home loan, only when you pay back the loan the company STILL owns the house. - quade, on 12/29/2007, -0/+24You'd be surprised. You don't need to know what a meme means to mimick them. How many lolcat references have you made before you realized that it originated on 4chan (and subsequently just felt dirty)?
Plus, Digg's cliche's are just as common as they are on Slashdot and Fark -- Digg users didn't invent RTFA by any stretch of the imagination. And the Digg Effect is also called the Drudge Effect, the Fark Effect (Farked), and the Slashdot Effect (Slashdotted). Digg is big, but it's far from an elite club. - ThinkBox, on 12/29/2007, -3/+26The power of others to manipulate digg you mean? You think she really was a digger?
- geeshock, on 12/29/2007, -2/+24I can't see a song based on a website going far. But she was smart for making use of diggs traffic, good luck to her.
- RandomGuySteve, on 12/29/2007, -1/+23All memes originate on 4chan. Realize this, and despair.
- amerz, on 12/29/2007, -5/+26I'm also a digg addicted girl
- calon9, on 12/29/2007, -4/+25Me too! Oh wait, I'm a guy.
- quade, on 12/29/2007, -2/+22Buried as inaccurate.
The real reason she may get a contract with Interscope Records is because she's entered into a contest to crash the Superbowl. The winner gets to play a song and a recording contract.
See her site for more details: http://www.twoweeksforkina.com/ - Krpano, on 12/29/2007, -1/+19You know, i thought exacty the same thing.......for today standards this is a pretty normal trick (which sickens me)......
Anyway i hope the story is true. - kiiwii, on 12/29/2007, -3/+19You sound hot. Are you single?
(Note: I'm kidding http://xkcd.com/322/ ) - inactive, on 12/29/2007, -3/+18Welcome To The Machine
- jopsen, on 12/29/2007, -3/+17It digg really anything but a marketing tool ?
Seriously most of the stories here real bad, and there's so many bad stories that it's not even worth to bury them.. - Gimpishi, on 12/29/2007, -3/+17Jiggawatts is a measure of money?
Then again money == power, and jiggawatts is a reference to power.
/suicide - fani, on 12/29/2007, -1/+14Good luck. I liked the digg song.
- MasterRex, on 12/29/2007, -10/+23 Heart-throb. Hot (geeky) girls that sing about Digg.
She'd make jiggawatts of money. - gregmo, on 12/29/2007, -0/+12All record companies are evil EXCEPT the one that gives you a contract.
- sillymrman, on 12/29/2007, -2/+14You don't need a Digg user account to:
A) Check Digg.com for entertaining/interesting news.
B) Read comments where stuff like RTFA gets generated.
I've gone *months* without logging into Digg and Digg.com is usually my first stop once I've finished checking e-mail. I'm not alone either. I've introduced Digg to people who use it as an RSS feed of interesting stories... you don't have to participate to enjoy Digg (but it certainly makes it more fun!). - Jugalator, on 12/30/2007, -0/+11You got fooled for a moment by the man boobs? ;-)
- RandoTheKing, on 12/29/2007, -23/+34The song was horrible and she had bad vocals. I don't understand the obsession.
1) Female makes video
2) ???
3) Profit - JoshuaH, on 12/29/2007, -0/+11No ... you weren't.
- specialK16, on 12/29/2007, -1/+12Pics or it didn't happen.
- joerodriguez, on 12/29/2007, -2/+13she deserves it, just listen to any of her real songs
- inactive, on 12/29/2007, -2/+13Since the article doesn't name he actual record label, it could be some random dude who has a decent set up and some basic distribution knowledge. But the good news is that she's talented and getting more exposure from this story.
- inactive, on 12/29/2007, -1/+11Indeed. If Kina is reading these comments, please don't sign the contract. You're officially viral now, and you could survive freelance.
Raise your hand if you'd support her! - zenmasher, on 12/29/2007, -2/+12She seemed to know enough of the lingo to be able to weave, for example RTFA, into the song. Of course, this is not limited to Digg...but who outside of Digg understands the phenom the Digg effect on a website. My guess is very few. The internal dialog makes it clear but from the outside the site just looks down.
- Chalito, on 12/29/2007, -4/+13thats really good, this girl should have a record deal. She has an amazing voice and she's really pretty.
- FatJoe11, on 12/29/2007, -2/+11Good for her.
- amerz, on 12/29/2007, -2/+10yeah and I'm a mac geek too. it doesn't get any better than that
- webgeek2point0, on 12/29/2007, -0/+8I totally agree...so THAT'S why I keep watching that video over and over!
- piesforyou, on 12/29/2007, -2/+10You assume that success correlates with talent.
Remember the spice girls? - inactive, on 12/29/2007, -2/+10Congrats and good luck.
- Shaman760, on 12/29/2007, -2/+10Are you in the music industry? Well I am. And I've lived through the horror of a signing. It seems like a great idea at the time but in reality, it's a BAD IDEA.
The power that labels had over artists for many years was distribution. Getting the product to market. Well guess what? The interwebs give artists the power to do it themselves.
And the real place to make $$$ in the music business is not by touring (gas prices, lodging, etc), not by playing local gigs, but by aggregate sales AND licensing of your music to corporate interests. RENT the companies your soul, don't outright SELL it to them.
But hey, the words "recording contract" seem to ring with so much weight and prestige to the uninformed.....sign that paper, girl. In about 5 years you will look back and say "wow there was that one guy who said don't". It will be a decision you will regret. IF you really want to succeed you need three things- a good manager, a good lawyer, and a good accountant. And make sure they all don't know one another. :) - ElbertF, on 12/29/2007, -0/+7Hmm.. Three U's.. I probably shouldn't.. *click*
