“Digg Girl” Kina Grannis Gets Song During Super Bowl
zapnat.com — I was just watching the Super Bowl and saw that Kina Grannis, the Digg Girl won the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl contest. Her song, Message from Your Heart ” was played during the Doritos Super Bowl commercial and is now available on iTunes.

- noghead, on 02/04/2008, -17/+194I just saw it here in Canada, they must have aired it later here. She looks and sounds great!
- korimickster, on 02/04/2008, -1/+23The video looked great and sounded ok, but I have to say it was kind of awkward how Doritos decided to present her. It felt extremely contrived.
- Tiak, on 02/04/2008, -0/+6I agree, but in their defense there was only so much they could do with the commercial considering the original video they shot had a lot of crappy camera work and some weird lamps in a greenhouse theme...
- DarthTurducken, on 02/04/2008, -1/+1Yeah it's just a medium for exposure, and what better exposure can you get outside of a Super Bowl ad?
Speaking of which, next year will be the 25th anniversary of Ridley Scott's famous 1984 Macintosh Super Bowl ad!

- Justice101, on 02/04/2008, -13/+8I kinda though when i voted that she as going to play the Digg song at the super bowl : (
- evulhotdog, on 02/04/2008, -1/+1She did it as a publicity stunt, as digg is a huge audience which equals a lot of votes. Especially when shes singing a song about digg.
- d03boy, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1Tastes great, less filling.
- Trav3133, on 02/04/2008, -30/+25That was one of the worst commericals. The Song and the lyrics completely sucked and everyone I watched the game with said WTF what a waste of money. And it is true stop blinding yourself digg community. It was not good, she sounded like all the same ole trash you hear at your local coffee house.
- dezmo, on 02/04/2008, -9/+6then why was she featured during the superbowl?
- TheKorn2, on 02/04/2008, -7/+12Because corporate bigs LOVE to promote anything safe... don't make waves, don't make good music, just make the same old boring bland ***** that everyone has heard before. That's why her record isn't going to sell jack ***** (like any are these days), because NOBODY IS GOING TO REMEMBER IT.
- Jetforce, on 02/04/2008, -11/+10I liked it.
Don't flaunt your opinion as being the general census on something, you just come off as an ass. - Tiak, on 02/04/2008, -1/+2*consensus
fixed. - DarthTurducken, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1I have to say, a LOT of young women are putting out music like that. I wonder if Joan Baez is getting royalties from them.
- liviaokokok, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1simon?
- Jetforce, on 02/04/2008, -11/+10I liked it.

- starkruzr, on 02/04/2008, -10/+7That's simply false. She has a great voice and she sounded very good.
- TheKorn2, on 02/04/2008, -13/+12The truth is a harsh mistress. I'd never heard of this lady before, but I was BORED off my ASS listening to her BLAND up the TV for a whole minute. And I'm sure as ***** not going to buy any Doritos because of it!
- RobotBuddha, on 02/04/2008, -5/+2It was a commercial, what do you expect. Superbowl commercials might be better than average, but by definition they're not going to be enjoyable. Networks don't use a thirty minute block of nothing but commercials for a reason.
- motagua, on 02/04/2008, -3/+3At first I didn't even know it was the "digg girl" I wrote down here name because I liked the song, then well when I checked digg this morning, well I found this post, which made my life easier. I liked it.
- HarveyBar, on 02/04/2008, -1/+2I also didn't realize it was her until halfway into the commercial. I also though as someone said above that I was expecting the Digg song, I didn't vote and really couldn't care less about her but the song she sang was boring and if the tens of teenage girls watching that Superbowl were actually paying attention in that brief 30 second spot that may generate a couple of bucks for Itunes, but I doubt it.
- toasterweasel, on 02/04/2008, -5/+5Speak the truth and get dugg down. I dugg you up. Follow the sheeple and get dugg up....sometimes. Ron Paul is the greatest! Oh wait now it looks like he won't have a realistic chance of winning. Uhh.... Obama! Yeah that's it! Commercialism sucks!...These Super Bowl didn't entertain me as much as they used to....
- dezmo, on 02/04/2008, -9/+6then why was she featured during the superbowl?
- iruel, on 02/04/2008, -1/+7Today something very troubling was made known to me on two separate occasions regarding media and me living in Canada. This regional crap on the internet, earlier i wasn't able to watch a clip from the daily show and now i can't buy this song(on iTunes) because i live in Canada. upon further investigation i found out that xbox live has way more stuff available in the way of movies and tv-shows, that i am unable to access. Can someone explain why this is the way it is and who is to blame for it please? It is causing me great frustration. I don't have a history of paying for music and now that i want to i can't. i am just so angry and don't know who to direct it at, so for now i'll just focus it on the RIAA even though they probably have nothing to do with this.
- freehunter, on 02/04/2008, -1/+4It's licensing to sell in another country, you can blame your government, but it won't do any good, since they really don't do it to be malicious.
- xtremesniper, on 02/04/2008, -0/+3You can blame the CRTC and their love of making these kinds of licensing deals almost impossible to achieve.
- betobeto, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1Welcome to the USA Wide Web.

http://www.usatoday.com/money/advertising/admeter/ ...- quetranza, on 02/04/2008, -4/+1She looked good. She sounded like TOTAL CRAP. She has no voice whatsoever. Couldn't hit the high notes from her own song!
- korimickster, on 02/04/2008, -1/+23The video looked great and sounded ok, but I have to say it was kind of awkward how Doritos decided to present her. It felt extremely contrived.
- DesignEx, on 02/04/2008, -86/+9She got there mainly because of us, so I wish they would have at least mentioned Digg.
- trunkster, on 02/04/2008, -5/+5She has a ton of soap opera fans that helped her out too. I forgot which show but they have a forum.
- mrjit, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1General Hospital I believe, I think she does some of the long-scene music.
- faithhammer, on 02/04/2008, -1/+23Actually, if you check out her website, www.kinagrannis.com, you will notice the first group of people she thanked were the "Diggers".
- TheKorn2, on 02/04/2008, -21/+3Are you sure her website isn't www.BLANDBLANDBLANDBLANDBLANDBLANDBLAND.com ? It'd be wayyyy more fitting. (OK, www.BORINGBORINGBORINGBORINGBORINGBORINGBORING.com would work, too!)

- tofutofutofu, on 02/04/2008, -4/+12You're an idiot, you should be proud of her, instead you post stupid comments like this. I hope you think about how you'll never attain her popularity and feel like ***** every time you bite into a doritos chip from now on
- DestroyFascism, on 02/04/2008, -1/+6She got there because she has a marketing concept that involves people "like" us.....
She is accessible, you can read her lyrics, download the song if you want, comment and communicate - its 2 ways for once!
IMHO this girl knows precisely what she is doing and it shows, she may consider it an experiment or maybe not but either way she is known to 14 million people or more and she didn't need a suit driving a mazarati to do that~ clever, talented young woman....GL!
Ill buy the album just so I can hear her crystal clear voice....
- trunkster, on 02/04/2008, -5/+5She has a ton of soap opera fans that helped her out too. I forgot which show but they have a forum.
- Zaneris, on 02/04/2008, -21/+30I hope this makes it to the FP, I wish her luck with wherever the future takes her.
- SteveHoltAD, on 02/04/2008, -5/+8not sure why you got voted down
- Zaneris, on 02/04/2008, -3/+7There was a lot of people trying to bury the article before kevin rose dugg it, I really don't know why...
- PURPLEDRINK, on 02/04/2008, -13/+3WTF is with this teeny booper ***** on digg and what has of this site within the past couple of months since every ***** under 18 (and over 30ish) has joined?

- plaunie, on 02/04/2008, -0/+12Yeah... Why aren't there only people exactly like me; with my age and my opinions and who digg things only things that I digg?
What is this interweb coming to?
- iruel, on 02/04/2008, -0/+7i'm not quite sure what you are trying to say.
- DeRose05, on 02/04/2008, -35/+1this is a copy story that has already been posted.
- Zaneris, on 02/04/2008, -6/+13There's like 6 of the story, this has the most diggs, and they were all posted at about the same time, so no.
- Ecuno, on 02/04/2008, -16/+132She didn't get there "mainly" because of Digg, sure it helped, but she has a very big fan base already. Plus, she has an absolutely amazing voice.
- quomen, on 02/04/2008, -8/+41Yeah.. I wonder how everyone feels about the fact that she and her friends created a facebook group that encourged people to sign up for a new digg account and essentially game the system. Still cool right?
Proof: http://arizona.facebook.com/event.php?eid=63841589 ...- Ukonu, on 02/04/2008, -3/+11Yeah, I mentioned that there's a good chance we were all being played and got dugged down to hell because everyone was so happy a "pretty" girl was singing a song about them. She could have easily had a friend write a song about this site, reddit, slashdot, or whatever site got the most visitors at the time. Its not that big of a deal but I just wanted to start a discussion about how advertisers targeting social networking sites is becoming very covert and indistinguishable from enthusiastic fans talking about their passion.
- aussia, on 02/04/2008, -2/+3Please tell me you're not assuming pretty & female and digg user are mutually exclusive categories, because nothing I've read indicates to me that she didn't write that song herself. I could be wrong, but I'd like to see the proof rather than the assumption.
- aceslick911, on 02/04/2008, -1/+12How is that any more 'gaming' the system than just getting alot of digg friends and messaging them to vote you up?
its all a game and she may not have had any of the opportunities if she just sat back and hoped her 1 digg did anything. What chance do non-digg-crazy artists hav to make it big on digg if they're all alone?
Her friends/facebook friends are fans. Fans like her songs hence Digg her up.. wheres the immorality in that? - SysstemLord, on 02/04/2008, -2/+3Well it seems it didn't work, the article has no more than 33 diggs.
DIGG CANNOT BE MANIPULATED !!!!!!!!!!one - Myztry, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2Well that's just marketing well done. I'd rather rather having a talented person pushing their own goods than some RIAA or the like Executive doing the manual with someone else's talent.
- adminmatt, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1all they say is to go to digg to see the submission. who cares?
do you feel THAT victimized that she came up with a good enough plan to make her famous? and it payed off
you're just mad you didn't come up with it right?
- Ukonu, on 02/04/2008, -3/+11Yeah, I mentioned that there's a good chance we were all being played and got dugged down to hell because everyone was so happy a "pretty" girl was singing a song about them. She could have easily had a friend write a song about this site, reddit, slashdot, or whatever site got the most visitors at the time. - iadiggs10, on 02/04/2008, -3/+4That is not necessarily gaming the system. Lots of groups form e-mail lists or friends lists on digg to digg up stories that their friends create or that they as a group support. One of the things that the recent change in the algorithm did was to make sure that it takes more than just a core group of supporters to reach the front page. Obviously Kina has that.
- quomen, on 02/04/2008, -3/+3Most of the people in the group did not have a Digg account. They are not a part of our community. They just made new accounts just to Digg her up and get on the front page.
- Tiak, on 02/04/2008, -1/+7She got over 6100 diggs... What does it matter what got her to the front page in the first place? Stories that get promoted that diggers don't support get buried rather quickly... Rather than get buried, she got more diggs than most major world events. If that doesn't suggest that she has support from the digg community, I don't know what would.
- Tyrghast, on 02/04/2008, -3/+14amazing voice? she can barely sing. but the digg song was very funny, this heart song was very dull

- ThinkBox, on 02/04/2008, -13/+76an American Idol winner sung the star spangled banner in the begging of the game... that is more significant than the commercial...
- steveboutin, on 02/04/2008, -17/+25yes, but american idol is still less significant than digg.
- thatsmyaibo, on 02/04/2008, -3/+18Sarcasm? I think the AI audience is significantly larger than the digg audience.
- m3mn0n, on 02/04/2008, -10/+4quality > quantity
- tendonut, on 02/04/2008, -2/+4Except when it comes to national elections. More people vote for the American Idol contestants than the presidential candidates.
- MadScientist440, on 02/04/2008, -2/+4There is no way of knowing how many people vote for American Idol, since people can vote as many times as they want. If people could vote multiple times for presidential candidates, I guarantee there would be more votes tallied than for that silly show on Fox.

- bingobongony, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1m3mn0n...have you been on digg lately? It STILL loses using your criteria.
- Dylson, on 02/04/2008, -1/+2Only by a few million.
- steveboutin, on 02/04/2008, -3/+1okay, i guess what i'm saying is that million dollar hits like american idol and survivor come and go, but ***** like youtube, wikipedia, and digg are groundbreaking and unprecedented. probably by the time we have grandkids TV won't even be around, and if it is it won't be relevant at all. assuming the internet stays THE INTERNET (i.e., no government censorship / corporate takeover takes place) then from this moment forward in human history, the supreme way to exchange information will not be television.
- bingobongony, on 02/04/2008, -4/+4You are SADLY delusional. TV will be around LONG after Digg is but a memory.
- steveboutin, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1i'm not just talking about digg, i'm talking about the internet as a whole. and you're sadly delusional if you think that the information age is just a passing trend. this is bigger than the industrial revolution.
- alpinweiss88, on 02/04/2008, -1/+3"... the supreme way to exchange information will not be television."
It never has been. TV isn't an exchange, it is a 1-way communication. Saying "American Idol is less significant than digg" is rather delusional of you - neither are very significant in the grand scheme. American Idol is a spinoff from a British show, which has many variants in many other countries. In the US, it has "produced" several top-10 singers and even 1 movie star. And just because someone comes out of American Idol doesn't make them terrible - they have proven to be quite talented. Unfortunately, they've most likely "sold their soul" to get to where they are, and some have probably hurt their careers by being on the show. But overall - who cares? So there are thousands of delusional people who try out and fail, seeking their 15 minutes of fame. It's just a TV show, get over it. Stop trying to tell everyone else how they should be living, and live your life.- steveboutin, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1you people are all entirely missing the point of my statement - i'm not talking about entertainment, i'm talking about the evolution of our species.
- thatsmyaibo, on 02/04/2008, -3/+18Sarcasm? I think the AI audience is significantly larger than the digg audience.
- Tiak, on 02/04/2008, -1/+2But there wasn't any itunes link pimpage... At least we have that >.>
- SRSco, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1She also sounded better than that ***** Doritos song. Let's not forget...it was a DORITOS commercial.

.... that sort of sounds bad. - ShuttleDisaster, on 02/04/2008, -1/+5I knew immediately (and already predicted it because I knew she made the final 3)....I called it out right before it aired, but I too was too ashamed to admit where I first heard about her.

My friends then asked, "Did you vote for her?" and I quickly replied, "***** no. I certainly wasn't going to make a myspace account for that *****."

- MaruLono, on 02/04/2008, -0/+18Actually it was pretty cool when i heard someone else say "Isn't that the girl from Digg?" Because that is when i finally knew, for the first time, that there are other diggers out there...
- vofuse, on 02/04/2008, -1/+2There's nothing embarrassing about going on Digg unless you spend all your free time there.

*sarcasm* - compoman, on 02/04/2008, -3/+3i see what you did thar... it seems bizarre that digg is now condemning he girl that we once praised. i still think she has a promising future as a singer and song writer.

- TomFrost, on 02/04/2008, -5/+10God this ***** pisses me off. Here's a news bulletin:
If you don't like a particular genre of music, it does not mean that the people who perform that genre are "bad", much less "*****". For those who like acoustic alternative and enjoy listening to subtle voice inflections, acoustic guitar, and minimalistic music, Kina is really fantastic. If that sort of sound doesn't suit you, then cool. To each his own. But the fact that you're not a fan of her style does not mean her music is *****, it just means you in particular don't care to listen to it. The rest of us won't knock you for sticking with your rap/metal/classic rock/country/whatever it is you prefer, but don't be such an ass as to call someone who is obviously very talented at what she does "*****" just because it's not your style.
And as far as that goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Sure it's cliché, but have you ever thought about what it means?- Trav3133, on 02/04/2008, -8/+2type more bookworm.

- brufleth, on 02/04/2008, -3/+4I'm on digg quite a bit but didn't know who she was and didn't care. Her uninspired "performance" was a huge step down from the commercials by regular people they had previously (last year?). I wouldn't recognize her if I saw here again (and no I wasn't drinking) and all I can remember about her music was how dull and common her voice, lyrics, and melody were.
- steveboutin, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1on the contrary - she's very attractive and her music is *****.
- merdiesel, on 02/04/2008, -25/+7...says the guy who never gets any.

- radison2, on 02/04/2008, -20/+42This is the future of music. Presented to the people, decided by the people. If only the majors would wake up and embrace the power of the internet instead of trying to grasp on to an old ***** business model.

- pilahaka, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2Maybe 'cause there's no money to be made by the majors in giving away music for free.
This young woman has talent, but so do just about every one of the waiters at Planet Hollywood in Times Square... and just about every other bar and restaurant in New York. Many of the struggling artists I know, do it because they have a lottery mentality. They all seem to working for their "big break" which for the most part entails getting chewed up by the corporate machine that is popular entertainment in this country. But, at least they get paid for their trouble. I've had several friends on major labels and the only one that got screwed in the deal was the label. My friends collected respectable salaries for a few years, had a lot of fun, got to see the world through the window of a tour bus, and the labels blew a lot of money for very little gain as giant bureaucracies often do. They never sold over 300,000 records (which I thought was a lot), so they never made a profit, so the label dropped them.
I have to wonder if there will be so many struggling artists working crappy jobs they hate for years on end when their big break means getting discovered on Digg, followed by a million views of their latest video on YouTube, followed by a few hundred thousand hits to their MySpace page, followed by another 10 years of grinding it out playing coffee houses, small clubs and selling T-shirts because no one will front the cash for a proper tour, foregoing traditional lives like getting married and having kids, until even their "biggest" fans have moved on to the latest DIgg sensation.
Unfortunately, making music costs money. Not just for equipment and studio time, but because artists need to eat and put a roof over their heads. Touring costs even more money. If we rely on people to create solely for the love of creating, then you are exactly right, the future of music is cute 17-22 year old girls, playing cute songs on YouTube for thousands of adoring 17-22 year old fans while their parents foot the bill for their extended adolescence and curmudgeony old farts like me will still be listening to old Echo and the Bunnymen CDs when we're even older and more curmudgeoney 20 years from now.
- adraft, on 02/04/2008, -12/+5Damn the long arm of Digg reaches out of the internet and into possibly the biggest televised event in America, way to go guys.
- Tiak, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1Weren't Kevin and Alex in a GoDaddy commercial last year?... it's not new, but maybe we should keep the tradition going.

- TheKorn2, on 02/04/2008, -0/+6One person voting a thousand times doesn't make them any more popular. Look at Ron Paul!

Look! I just wrote 3/4ths of an entire modern song.
Give her credit. She kept it to a minimum. Most songs nowadays use ***** like that as the entire chorus. - compoman, on 02/04/2008, -5/+5most of the Beatles songs contain that or a single phrase so don't put down a girl who had about 15-30 sec. to sing a short song for a commercial. limited time means limited material.

- Tiak, on 02/04/2008, -0/+3Technically she had a complete song which she left them to edit...
- TheKorn2, on 02/04/2008, -1/+1Short time means limited material? What have YOU been smoking? Short time should be JAM PACKED with material. If you can't fill 30 seconds, then what crap are you putting on the album? Tracks of tuning guitars!??

It is nice to see a legit artist getting some recognition where it is due. Some of these untalented new artists who are becoming famous are making me sick coughSouljaboycough.
Her voice reminds me of Alanis Morisette though... is that a bad thing?- PhilMoskowitz, on 02/04/2008, -6/+9Voice is good. Lyrics were vapid nonsense. She should get a bunch of writers and start building a ***** image like all the other singer/strippers.
- apetresc, on 02/04/2008, -1/+4Alanis Morisette, really? It sounded 100% like Anna Nalick to me. If I didn't know about her ahead of time, I might have suspected she was lip-synching.
- Jakerius, on 02/04/2008, -0/+7Ugh, Souljaboy. That ***** song... it isn't bad enough that the lyrics are idiotic, but also that people look completely retarded when they try to sing it.

- arcooke, on 02/04/2008, -15/+44She's a good singer... but honestly, she didn't deserve to win. I know I'm going to get buried to oblivion by you kids, but had you listened to the competition, you'd agree. And as always, I'm going to get silenced for having an opinion. Bury away.
- centran, on 02/04/2008, -5/+7You shouldn't get dugg down for your opinion.
Personally I think she deserved to win and I have listened to the competition.
I think she won because the female singer/songwriter is making a come back. They where big in the mid to late 90s but died off and where over taken by their male counterparts and "pop" music.
Landon Austin would be the male singer/songwriter counterpart I speak of. He is very good and is a better guitarist then Kina. However, I feel it is time for the female singer/songwriter to shine once again.
The other finalist Nivla is a hip-hop artist and I feel his music is several years behind what is currently being put out. I do think the runner-up Metafore is very "current" and was surprised he was not a finalist.
A quick re-cap of the runner-ups
Dominic Castillo - like several of the runner-ups are more indie rock/popish. I really like them. Unfortunately they are comming out of the North East which has an excellent music scene but bands from there always seem to just take time to mature from that reagion.
Metafore - already said that this rapper should have taken Nivla's place as a finalist
Barra Libre - very interesting rock/funk group with hints of Mexican flavor. Probably they where too different to what people are used to to take a finalist spot.
Playback - Very pop club feeling. Almost like a current much better New Kids on the Block and that might have been the downfall.
Gina Cutillo - good alternative band. If they make a good push in the midwest they might go somewhere as these types of band always seem to spread outwards from the midwest.
One False Move - Rock band. If they where a little bit "harder" they might have had a good chance.
Blind Fury - another rapper but this guy has a nice 90s feel going for him. He might have a good future as I suspect the industry will move back to that style.- centran, on 02/04/2008, -2/+1Opps. I meant to say Dominic Castillo are coming out of the North West. Portland to be precise.
While I am correcting myself I will add that if they can get their song as background/montage music on a TV show or two they will be golden... and their "sound" is perfect for that task. - Jakerius, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2Why do you suspect that 90s rap will make a comeback? That seems contradictory to common sense.
- centran, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1Nothing truly a come back but it is more of a re-invention. I am not talking about the hardcore street rapping of the 90s but the main stream stuff. We already saw a little bit of it at the start of this decade with the merging of rap and alternative rock.
It is coming back because people want lyrics/rhythms that actually make sense. I think people are sick of nonsensical made up ***** like just yelling skeet skeet at people for them to find out a month later they are talking about ejaculating. People are sick of "rappers"/hip-hop artist like soulja boy
... oh thats cute superman... wait? wtf? what does that song mean it doesn't even make sense!.... Oh, he wants to cum on whores but he can't say that on the radio so made up his own words and phrases? That is just wrong.
- centran, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1Nothing truly a come back but it is more of a re-invention. I am not talking about the hardcore street rapping of the 90s but the main stream stuff. We already saw a little bit of it at the start of this decade with the merging of rap and alternative rock.

- mrjit, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2She shouldn't have won over Nivla and Landon? I wasn't a fan of Landon at all, something about his voice. And Nivla.. Seriously, maybe it's because I live in Florida, but I'm sick to ***** death of anything remotely Raggaeton, even if its Bolllywoodton.

- yacks, on 02/04/2008, -6/+8What you don't feel used? She exploited Digg.. that's the way I see it.. Smart I guess, but her talent should have been enough, but well she had to exploit this site.. Do you really think she really uses Digg?
- TomFrost, on 02/04/2008, -1/+7Who the hell cares? If you life dreams rested on finding ways to get the word out to people, wouldn't you be doing everything possible on Digg, Facebook, Myspace, and the like just to get people aware? If those are underhanded tactics, then *****, there are a lot of diggers who deserve your same cacophony of high-horse criticism.
- Qtip42, on 02/04/2008, -0/+6Doesn't matter if she used digg or not. Digg is a conduit for popularity......Everything on digg is trying to spread the word. My gold macbook pros would be nothing without digg and the social networks picking them up.

- TheKorn2, on 02/04/2008, -3/+3THE MUSIC'S BAD AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD!
- Fritzel, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1It's human nature to group together, and groups create outcasts (not intentionally so, the outcasts are created simply by the lack of inclusion in the groups) which then create other groups, often at odds with the first group even if they no longer understand why. Essentially what that means is what you already know. For every faction for one topic there will be another faction against it.
- whiteguysamurai, on 02/04/2008, -0/+3Because she didn't wow us with talent, she sounds like thousands of others.
What she did do, is bypass the usual channels by exploiting horny nerds on Digg.
Sure, she will get some press now, but don't expect her to go anywhere.
People with thin talent tend to fizzle out.
- yacks, on 02/04/2008, -6/+8What you don't feel used? She exploited Digg.. that's the way I see it.. Smart I guess, but her talent should have been enough, but well she had to exploit this site.. Do you really think she really uses Digg?
- iadiggs10, on 02/04/2008, -8/+16Who are you guys that are digging down anything good about an artist that was brought from nowhere by us: internet users. One of the reasons I voted for Kina is that I believe that it will help show the record companies that the normal music-star system needs to change. I hope a few people agree with me.
- bingobongony, on 02/04/2008, -2/+7People are digging you down because you are sadly delusional if you think that this girl will succeed without a record label.
Let's put it this way...if a record label offered her the standard contract for new artists...she would gladly fellate the guy who offered it to sign it. She is under no delusion that she is better off going it alone and using "us internet users" to make a living in music.- iadiggs10, on 02/04/2008, -0/+3Take note that she now DOES have a record label thanks to the efforts of her friends, listeners, and digg users. There is a lot of great music out there that is not signed to a label and one of the reasons they don't necessarily need to sign a contract is because of the falling costs of getting your music to listeners via iTunes etc. Don't get me wrong, labels still have the power to "make you a star" practically overnight, but this is certainly stupid if the music is not that great and still gets played on the radio every 20 min.
- hddigger, on 02/04/2008, -3/+4She sucks.

- fuelcarddotorg, on 02/04/2008, -13/+23I cant say I was impressed. Noone else in the room thought it was that good either
- RationalXubrnce, on 02/04/2008, -2/+3 Go watch the whole song on youtube. it's better than the clip they showed. The beginning is the strong part, not the chorus. But I must agree the commercial was not that good.

- kjcdude, on 02/04/2008, -1/+5No idea why you're getting dugg down, your the first one to actually post a link to the real superbowl video
- TheKorn2, on 02/04/2008, -2/+3The superBAD ad was NOT four minutes long.

- airj1012, on 02/04/2008, -4/+17That's awesome. She also got signed to Interscope.
- Devo420, on 02/04/2008, -1/+3She signed to a label? Well there goes her chance to make all the money she deserves. With her Digg popularity and MySpace hits alone she could have distributed her music herself, its not hard to get your material on iTunes for an independent artist.
- gegroff, on 02/04/2008, -4/+12Congrats Kina. I have no idea who you are, but you definitely have more talent than most others in main-stream pop music today.
- hellyes0, on 02/04/2008, -3/+16Congratulations to you, Kina.
- highsurf83, on 02/04/2008, -7/+4YA KINA!!! she's a great songwriter and performer...love all of her vids on her youtube channel and the new Message from your Heart single
- masfenix, on 02/04/2008, -4/+23she's cute.
- hddigger, on 02/04/2008, -15/+8What a joke. The other two were way better than her. She only won because of marketing to digg.
- pameste, on 02/04/2008, -5/+18Where is the canonical, "I'd still hit it" comment?
- vertexoflife, on 02/04/2008, -0/+6I see what you did there.
- bonk2k, on 02/04/2008, -1/+4Man, what the ***** does ubuntu have to do with this?
- RationalXubrnce, on 02/04/2008, -1/+3 It's missing because there's no one that wouldn't hit it so there's kind of no point.
- Eldorian, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1Looks like her Digg marketing worked in helping her win.
I mean, seriously, why else would you make a song about digg at the same time that there's an internet vote to win something big? Genius if you ask me. -
