- jmkiii, on 11/03/2007, -1/+495MTV talking about music? Something is strange here.
- Missy4truth, on 10/26/2007, -38/+334Songs are a threat to national security now? This is pathetic and Americans need to wake the hell up.
- FrankThePigeon, on 10/22/2007, -12/+134WOW...i don't mean to sound like an ***** but it's a bit refreshing to see this happen in other places. Here in Egypt, artists and musicians getting harassed and censored by the gov is a norm, but I'm really surprised to see this happen on your end. Bizarre...
- onlytruth, on 10/26/2007, -24/+128Fascist laws are creeping their way in.. We need to stand up before its too late.. View the.. The 10 steps to fascism with Naomi Wolf.. "The End of America"
- revjustin2, on 10/22/2007, -1/+96Quote of the day "They could be water-boarding my drive for all I know."
- barc0001, on 10/18/2007, -2/+88Wow. He can't get his files on a hard drive across the border. If only there was some planet-wide computing network upon which files could be transferred...
- idiotic, on 11/02/2007, -6/+66why does chris walla hate America?
- cmirza, on 11/03/2007, -2/+59"1. Call MTV News to discuss upcoming, long-delayed solo record."
Why would that be a high priority for him? They don't even play his music. - misconfig, on 11/02/2007, -13/+61Reports from Homeland Security state "The album is just too emo, this can't possibly be good for our nations well-being."
- faskill, on 10/18/2007, -3/+50Hopefully you'll be off yours soon.
- kingyubba, on 10/26/2007, -3/+45quick! somebody call the RIAA!!!! the government is pirating music!

- inactive, on 10/19/2007, -13/+43Americans have been selectively bred to sleep soundly through this kind of thing. There will be no waking up for America.
- notque, on 10/18/2007, -0/+29... Please don't tell me we've chosen Canada as the next red scare. I enjoy maple syrup way too much.
- breckinshire, on 10/18/2007, -0/+27Or anyone else's.
- Laughto, on 10/19/2007, -1/+23I'd be surprised if the HD was confiscated because of the album on it.... isn't that a bit of a leap given the info?
Anyway I am looking forward to this release. Don't usually like it when musicians try politics but Walla sounds like he's got his head straight about it;
"And while it really is a political record, it's also intensely personal, and it's not like, political in a way where I hope to change anyone's mind, because I've been doing my political-rock homework for a few years now, trying to decode what works and what doesn't," he continued. "Basically, it was my hope that I would be able to write a bunch of songs about the sh-- that I think about pretty much every day. But there aren't any character assassinations or indictments on the record. It's tricky to write a political record. It was tough to get to a place where I felt comfortable with the words coming out of my mouth."
...
"This is a solo record, which is a little bit scary, because there's a feeling of 'Oh, you're officially making a statement,' and you're either the fist-waving left or the flag-waving right, and there's no in between," he laughed. "But I made this record because it felt irresponsible for me to have a platform for what I'm thinking and not use it. And not just to do political songs. If all I wanted to do was cover Air Supply songs, I could've done that too." - atb112, on 10/26/2007, -8/+30Freedom of speech? What's that?
- revjustin2, on 10/18/2007, -1/+22I doubt they even knew there were songs on the drive.
- Unlgued, on 10/18/2007, -8/+29"Ron Paul" now wordfilters to "More Boobs"
- JEAH, on 10/18/2007, -7/+27The best part of this is how everyone is going to buy this album when it's released just to hear what the fuss is all about... stupid fascist government, will you ever learn? :)
- jrod311, on 10/26/2007, -4/+24Land of the free....
- ncc74656m, on 10/18/2007, -12/+31Oh goodie. I'm so happy that actual fascism has finally taken over here in the good ol' USofA. I wonder how many members of our government and their supporting pundits think "Hitler wasn't such a bad guy." I'd bet the number would surprise you.
- vertinox, on 10/18/2007, -1/+19The first word was "Ninja".
- waz67, on 10/20/2007, -4/+22Jeeez there are a lot of conclusions being drawn here without much detail.
1) it was a hard drive being sent via courier, which in itself is a bit odd. Why didn't he just bring it with him in the first place?
2) TFA talks about the album being named "Field Manual" and references stuff about bomb-making. It doesn't say if anything related to that was included with the drive, but if it was, then would anyone be surprised that it got picked up?
3) You're a musician, and not only do you not have backups but you send your master copy on hard drive via courier? Jeeesus, if the border patrol doesn't get it, the courier company will be happy to destroy it for you. - thugok, on 10/18/2007, -1/+18You are right, anything found in 10 seconds on Google is definitely something that homeland security should be worried about.
- lpmusix, on 10/18/2007, -2/+19As you even pointed out yourself here, "backup" is _ONE_ word.
- spudnic, on 10/18/2007, -3/+15http://www.f-u-c-k-o-f-f.com
- jarinudom, on 03/31/2008, -2/+14Death Cab for Cutie is about as mainstream as it gets, just don't let all the emo kids find out or they'll all start cutting again
- Wargalas, on 10/18/2007, -10/+22All of you are throwing the word "fascist" around a lot lately. Do any of you actually know the meaning of the word?
- gotterdammerung, on 10/18/2007, -1/+13Did I miss the part where anyone requested this indie-rock pedantry? How are you too lazy to search for it, but not to re-type it all?
- Laughto, on 10/18/2007, -1/+11I make taste judgements about music I've never heard too.
- ncc74656m, on 10/18/2007, -4/+14Don't worry, I'm sure that your dear sweet Britney's music will be next on the list.
- gotterdammerung, on 10/18/2007, -0/+9Note how he gets laid so much more than you do.
You're really gonna front about the band's name? Because 'curt092480' is an example of your own sparkling creativity? - vertinox, on 10/18/2007, -1/+10If they can take his, they can take yours.
- skyshock1, on 10/18/2007, -1/+10... whoever told you that is your enemy!
- SuperMoses, on 10/18/2007, -0/+9Dugg down for the lame labels and for making it seem like it was just an "accusation". It was more than an accusation, his property was taken by the government.
- r00tus3r, on 10/18/2007, -0/+9Well if he did, your poor grammar's enough to start anyone crying again.
- nofactor, on 10/26/2007, -1/+10maybe the guys at homeland security just couldn't wait for the album's release
- meamog, on 10/18/2007, -4/+13Loot at you, apparently convinced unreleased music from an experienced guitarist and producer isn't going to be worth your (or anyone else's) time.
- centerblack, on 10/18/2007, -6/+15Yea, next time I go to the store, I'm just going to confiscate some steaks and beer. That will be ok right?
CONFISCATED = STEALING MADE LEGAL BY PEOPLE WITH MORE POWER THAN YOURSELF. - vertinox, on 10/18/2007, -1/+10Hitler was a better speaker and dressed snappy.
- vertinox, on 10/18/2007, -0/+9According to the article he is using the old fashion studio tapes.
- kindall, on 10/18/2007, -1/+10If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding. How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?
- GoingPostal, on 10/18/2007, -4/+13That really sucks. He should have had an image of the hard drive backed up somewhere.
- inactive, on 10/26/2007, -5/+13Homeland security is a waste of money and needs to be dissolved. They make getting anything over the border legally a ***** mess. Absolutely ***** stupid.
- andrew7667, on 10/18/2007, -0/+7Death Cab wasn't always so mainstream. Most people have only heard Plans and maybe Transatlanticism. They've released four other albums apart from that.
Jargon, DCFC isn't emo. Not even close. Have you ever even listened to them? - sexybobo, on 10/18/2007, -2/+91. Put files on hard drive
2. Make laptop look suspicious and act suspicious while with it.
3. Get laptop confiscated for looking suspicious.
4. Tell every one your laptop was confiscated for no reason try to make it a free speech issue.
5. Have hundred of thousands of people who never heard of you before buy your album to see what the fuss is about.
6. Profit.
I am not saying that is what happened but you have realize this guy is going to make a huge profit off this happening to him and you have to wonder if it is a publicity stunt. What artist would only have 1 digital copy of his up tomming cd especial since they sell there music on the internet you would think they would have a digital back up. - r00ts, on 10/17/2007, -2/+9And I guess they don't teach spelling where you come from.
- RonBurgundy76, on 10/18/2007, -1/+8Hmmm... so we just skipped the book-burning phase?
- CatalystGhost, on 10/19/2007, -8/+15Dude. This is Digg. We've heard enough about Ron Paul's amazing powers of godliness to last us a long time. Seriously, we don't care. We're sick of him. Ok? You dumb *****, in your ridiculous and continuous posting of how godly it is when he takes a dump "for democracy", have probably ruined the chance at us actually getting a decent president. Great job.
