- pgm_01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3We're on a road to nowhere
Come on inside
Takin' that ride to nowhere
We'll take that ride - SuperBeast, on 11/12/2007, -0/+2he should get sued for playing too much missey elliot. that crap will hurt you if you listen too much.
- Reliant, on 11/12/2007, -0/+2While I agree that the RIAA sticks its nose where it does not belong, the standard for streaming music has been for a long time "more than 4 tracks by any one artist in a three-hour period". Even some of your FM stations hold by that rule.
- TheWorkz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Now that we are done with PriceRitePhoto, wanna start on RIAA??
- wilf_brim, on 11/12/2007, -0/+2And you may ask yourself,
How dumb can the RIAA be,
And you will say to yourself
MY GOD, THERE IS NO LIMIT
A very nice commentary by Byrne, but I don't know why I am slightly surprised by that, I should have expected no less. - inactive, on 11/12/2007, -0/+2David Byrne is the artist for "Look into the Eyeball" song that comes with every copy of Windows XP.
- DWatch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't wait for the day that the RIAA sues someone over filesharing a song or three, and the dumbass lawyer who pushes the lawsuit thru doesn't realize the person named on the suit is a major artist or producer, like say, Sean Combs (pdiddy.... or whatever he is calling himself these days). Would be very easy to miss if the suits don't follow hip hop, or know all artist's real name. Hope they try to sue Suge Knight, lol. They would be swinging from their high rise office balcony by their toes.
- producer2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gigglestick
David Byrne is a fabulous artist who has provided the world with wonderful music for over two generations. I admire him for that. Having worked around him and similiar types for as many years, I
can tell you for certain, you do not wish to have to tolerate them. - DownloadThis, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1Funny, I was just singing No Compassion in the shower, then came downstairs to see this story on the front page. :P
- LaurenBC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lead singer of the Talking Heads, now a solo artist. Also appeared in an episode of the Simpsons to produce Homer's hit single ' Everybody Hates Ned Flanders ' and on and on. The RIAA is out of control.
- RHamel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is American Business at it's best. A Company that doesn't make anything, it just threatens lawsuits to people an gets them turn over loads of cash.
- nevin, on 11/12/2007, -1/+2i like the talking heads.
i dont like the riaa.
missey elliot is crap. - armbo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"he should get sued for playing too much missey elliot. that crap will hurt you if you listen too much."
i completely agree. - Meshyf, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1uncle_dad said "David Byrne's radio station is one of the best internet stations around. It's too bad that the FCC isn't viewing internet radio to be equivilant to terrestial radio."
How the hell could you? Terrestial radio is such crap. I could listen to internet radio 24/7 if it wasn't for all those mp3's I got. :D - dmron, on 11/12/2007, -1/+2"David Byrne is the artist for "Look into the Eyeball" song that comes with every copy of Windows XP."
It's a sad day when more people recognize someone for this rather than being part of one of the best bands of all time. :P - mentor972, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Saysaknow... why did you post the IP of Haliburton? "34.156.24.69"
- jjk5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The song is "Like Humans Do". "Look Into The Eyeball" is the album iirc. (long since deleted)
- jwalk81980, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is some buuuuuull.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Damnit, i am sick and tired of the RIAA and to a much lesser extent the MPAA. What a corrupt situation.
- uncle_dad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0David Byrne's radio station is one of the best internet stations around. It's too bad that the FCC isn't viewing internet radio to be equivilant to terrestial radio.
- leftfoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is getting ridiculous.
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if only they were as easy to get rid of as priceritephoto...
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hell yeah, theworkz.
- MarcoRaaphorst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0RIAA is attacking their own customers and artists as well. I mean: how stupid is that?
- siouxmoux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So Basic David Byrne is getting in trouble from the Nazis riaa for streaming Too Much Crappy Music from Missy Elliot. The same Evil Organization that Promotes Crap Artist like Missy Elliot. This does not add up.
- suMMx, on 11/12/2007, -1/+1the more pressing issue here is, why the hell was he playing missy elliot?
- FRAGaLOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You'd think Missy Elliot would be one suing him.
But anyone who likes her music should be sued. Ew - jaydee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These guys are loosing an impossible battle with their current tactics. You've only got to see how many downloaders are connected to a popular torrent to see that.
The web is place where we get stuff for free.. they can either like it or lump it as far as i'm concerned.
Now where's that CAM of Doom i downloaded? LOL - genrebusters, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This shuold be good. I can't wait until the musicians start fighting the gestapo like ways of the SSRIAA and the KKKMPAA
- covrigel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What if I feel like creating a radio station that plays only one song?
- diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is getting worse and worse, I swear I am going to start selling boycott RIAA bumper stickers on my blog soon lol
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh, maybe he'll get RIAA flack for having too many copies of "look into the eyeball" free on windowsXP
- sirplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i beg to differ. Missy is not crap! her first record is amazing. but back to the point, RIAA bad, bad. you'd think they might get a clue after all this time. but noooo. i suppose they'll start suing people for not liking their crappy records next. even Damien Marley's new CD, which was supposed to be a great record, according to.. well, publicists :) even that CD is one song deep! like most of the other crap they try to pass off as full length Cd's. one good song. buy the whole thing. why? indie bands still make albums, good ones. be they underground hip hop or indie rock or whatever. the creative drive is alive and well, and well outside of the reach of RIAA labels. so they become less relevant with every passing day. and i think that's pretty cool.
- vannyx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 David Byrne i wonder how much MS paid him to distribute that song with windows. I bet the RIAA brokered that deal and he gets like .001 cent per copy of windows sold. All you windows pirates out their, dont you see that your stealing from david, that he cant feed himself and that his children need wine. When you steal software/movies/music you only hurt the big boys err i mean the little guy that brings everyone coffee.
- Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, the last album I've bought in the past two years was Juno Reactor's 'Labyrinth', and as it stands will probably be my last purchase. Net radio is just too good to pass up, and too easy to rip.
- gagin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here is the link: http://journal.davidbyrne.com/2005/12/12105_rant_abou.html
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I concur. ***** the RIAA.
- thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0are you sure it wasn't the YHBTiM? -> http://www.youhavebadtasteinmusic.com/
- stalkingu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0=/ how dare he steel my last name!!!
- saysaknow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just typed in some random IP.
- MarkXL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Someone needs to shoot the RIAA for being involved in the same aspects as the Nazi revolution.
- GiggleStick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ummm.. Producer2k. I think the reason he wanted his wallet was for the wallet itself, but for things like his ID and stuff that isn't as easily replaced. It's just easier to say wallet than listing all the details of the things he wanted and for what purpose. It's almost like you have a hard time grasping the obvious. As if you see everything in some kind of shades of grey, instead of the harsh black and white of reality.
- IraqManiac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0***** the RIAA piece of ***** ***** company
- truspark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"It's a sad day when more people recognize someone for this rather than being part of one of the best bands of all time. :P"
The price is steep for a dance with the devil, no? - sirplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0chuckle :) figures RIAA site would be on a Windows server. so tempting..
- producer2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1David Byrne has had an odd career, from playing half-empty punker bars in the 70's to having his face plastered on the cover of Time Magazine as "Renaissance Man..." Throughout it all he has had the very close company of his own nuclear-powered ego. David Byrne is the epitome of the morally-confused, monolithically dis-informed navel-gazing leftist artist whose propensity for abject self-loathing sits in the penumbra of hatred for all things not orbiting his bright solar sense of righteousness. He is seditious in contemplation and pernicious in expression. As is typical for those whose "gift" is the ability to view the world around in a palette of a million shades of gray, while the harsh black-and-white of reality eludes them, Byrne is unable to see the the sad truth of his run-in with the RIAA: has-beens are ground up in the bureaucracy they helped to empower.
"Once in a Lifetime" is an act of genius and one the first rap tracks to crossover. It also was composed of lines mimicked by Byrne of televangelists he had taped off over-the-air broadcasts while spending his nights in Tour date motel rooms.
Its enigmatic that an artist whose best musical achievement was his goofing of Jimmy Swaggert should have to face the wrath of the Klu Klux Wu-tang Klan for streaming the audio efforts of an artist who is also goofing nearly every musical phrase she has heard in the last 20 years...
In his journal, Byrne tells of getting mugged in New Orleans and then chasing the muggers into an alley where he implored them to take the money and leave his wallet. Interesting. Why have the currency when you can have the empty container. Much like Byrne himself, an empty container without currency, the fact that he hurls invective to the cyberwinds over the brutish RIAA demand that he pay the legitimate DMCA fees for playing DJ on the internet.
Its partially Byrne's fault, someone with a bit of clout who could've voiced opposition while his Record company greased the palms of his liberal cohorts to pass an onerous act whose fundamental goal was the preservation of a major money base for the Democratic party.
By the way, David, Fascism is evil, even if it does "benefit" the
little guy for a brief period. The RIAA, Hugo Chavez, David Byrne and anyone or anything who "know what's best" for the rest of us are cut from the same cloth. Self-interest cloaked by faulty legislation or belligerent platitude, or Popular Music...
- StatusQuoRules, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Those songs that come with XP are the most awful ones I have ever heard!
- nene7070, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0as Fragalot (great username, btw...) said... why the HELL is it the RIAA doing the suing if this is so bad for the ARTISTS?! If this made a difference to them, they would have done the suing... Methinks, its not about them at all. ITS A CONSPIRACY:) to "protect" us from getting good music at a good price (i.e. free;) ).
- TheWorkz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, as much as I think the RIAA deserves it! We would need a much bigger pitch fork, and about a million more people holding 1 each. :) RIAA's website is running on what appears to be a Windows Server 2003 w/ IIS6.0, being hosted by TST-US.COM (Tomorrow's Solutions Today). Plus, they would probably try and sue everyone of us who even talked about it, or considered performing a DOS attack.
If I got caught, I would just blame it on my 4 year old's, cousin.. :) -
