Yes, making your tech purchasing decisions based on what other people do is a completely sound method. - muleking, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22I wonder if this new creative player takes like ten button presses to get to playing a damn song. The menu system on my creative player is awful compared to an ipod.
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Good luck with marketing half a product.
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Aren't they a bit late with an answer to the Nano?
- BarriedaleNick, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Maybe they can make a player that doesn't scratch when you breathe on it
- StatusQuoRules, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"Yea, so many people have ipods, it will be nice to get something different."
The must have done something right then. - daRoach, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I think the official name is "Mystery Machine" MP3 player. Scooby Rooby Roo!!
- RegisteredUser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Ugh.. enough with the deep linking please. Here's Creative's (Singapore) website with the mystery player announcement..
http://sg.creative.com/
Since the product is being announced on the Singapore website, it's really unknown if this player will be launched elsewhere. Anyways, I really want Creative to offer something.. creative. But given their current and past MP3 players, I have a feeling it's going to be a re-hashed MuVo. Same crap, different packaging. I think Samsung offers more innovative and stylish players. Too bad they don't put any effort into marketing them. - AlmostEvil, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Creatives problem is that up until this point they relied a fair bit of their sales of MP3 players being bought by techs like us.
Whilst Apple has achieved true market penetration of non-techs, by creating this lawsuit against Apple Creative has now managed to isolate themselves from those tech buyers.
I predict Creative will start bleeding even more cash. - jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7"Think different..."
hmmmmm, *scratches head* - hybrid8, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10HAHA! they wish they had Apple marketing. hmm Aerosmith said it well, Dream On!
- Jeebugorn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4as much as i hate apple and the ipod fad...you are right. i never realized until friday how little accessories the non-ipod mp3 players have. i was looking for a fm transmitter for my creative zen micro photo, and could only find 3, with 1 being crap, and 2 being good but one of those was made by monster so it EXPENSIVE! then i noticed how everything else was for ipod. home theater recievers, car audio, etc. does, almost, make me second guess my decision to not buy apple.
but apple did fix the scratch problem. its called the ipod mini. i wanted one of those, but couldn't find one. i really like the minis. all they had to do was put a color screen in one and it would have been awesome. i'm sure they could have made it thinner too (instead of the nano). - gamersedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3no one will upset the ipod unless creative wins the interface lawsuit.
- geekee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"2. The most content for purchase is iPod compatible"
No, aside from iTMS, everything compatible with iPod is compatible with other mp3 players. Conversely, every other major online music service does not work with iPod, but works with every other player. - niiru, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4disclaimer: never owned a creative or apple mp3 player
Don't both these players incorperate DRM?
Do creatives support more than the vanilla music formats that ipods do?
And I'm reasonably sure you can't use either of these as portable storage easily.
Please correct me if I'm wrong/expand on these points if possible. :D - neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9Apple's marketing is too good... it's the driving force behind the iPod's sucess...
- BWhaler, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I think I'll be sticking with the iPod for a long time for a few reasons:
1. Every accessory on the planet is made for the iPod. Plug it into your car. The best speaker systems. Even the Nike deal (and I don't like Nike sneakers) is a huge plus to help me get in shape.
2. The most content for purchase is iPod compatible
3. The design, while certainly not flawless, is off-the-charts. Apple needs to fix the scratching because a lot of people's patience is wearing thin, and it is starting to make the Ipod have the "Ferrari problem." In other words, beautiful and high performance, but low quality and in the shop a lot.
4. Finally, I like Apple's innovation. New, cool features and designs. It does not put in things that I don't really want and does not get bated by tech writers who talk about "missing" features that most people don't care about.
I think Apple has this ball game locked up for many years as long as they keep innovating. - tdkyo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A good contender to iPod nano is the iAudio U3. Check it out folks! I bought it a couple of weeks ago and I love it!
http://www.cowonamerica.com/products/iaudio/u3/ - pigphucker, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5if creative makes it, it sucks
- hayden.evans, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7well hopefully they don't copy the nano too much and rack up another lawsuit haha.
- DocDEB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Don't know about the Creative players but using the iPod for storage is as easy as plugging it in. As to DRM --- that basically applies to music you purchase on line. If you rip your own from CDs there is none (presuming you have non-DRM CDs). Ripping your own is the way to go unless there are just a couple of songs you want from an album.
- ericcc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I came here to post the same thing. IPods are simplicity themselves how hard is it to not include bells and whistles and create a minimalist design then undercut Apple by 25-33%.
- kyriakos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I know you will digg me down now but..
if microsoft made ipod and it was as popular as it is now I bet everyone here would have cheered creative and felt like their mp3 players are the best for having more features.
I do own an ipod (I actually won it in a competition) and I've got a creative zen as well plus a couple of more mp3 players such as iRiver I got to pile here over the years so I can more or less do a comparison between them from personal experience. In my opinion ipod has style and good looks but its not exactly the best player out there - if you put them next to each other feature by feature all the other players are better. Apple knows that but they did it on purpose, kept things simple and thats why they won, they made a product targeted for the mainstream, the people who dont need all the fancy features but want their devices to do only what they are supposed to do easily. Thats why you see mobile phones like motorolla razr being popular, they are extremely basic as far as functionality is concerned. - geekee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Give me a break. The only thing original about an iPod is their mass marketing. Creative was first to market.
- earthtoandy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2an answer to the nano 9 months later? no wonder they are doomed to a distant 2nd.
Maybe they will call it the Creative Vista™ - priegog, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Actually here in Europe there are dirty cheap mp3 players (60 Euros for 1 Gig, last I checked). Nice form factors and full of little functionalities too (voice recording, radio...). That's why (I believe) iPod hasn't got such a great market share here. Why these manufacturers (Chinese, probably) don't import their products to the US, is beyond me. That's an example of healthy competition, IMO
- Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1personlally iriver players offer better selection for non-apple mp3 players
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"We bet they're going flash."
You can bet they're going flash. They made a big pre-buy of NAND flash at a disastrous price. By using it, at least they don't have to resell it on the secondary market at a loss. - alej744, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ummm no, designwise the mini just doesn't fit with their current iPods. Seriously... it's shiny mattish plastic in assorted colors VS sleek slim black / white with shiny mirror in the back and everything seriously
If you really wanted an iPod mini, you couldve found one: Amazon + eBay - liveinabin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What a stupid thing this is. Creative have announced a new mp3 player? Well..duh. That's what they make.
They should just hurry up an show it already. They're not in any position to be showboating. - Coreguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The reason why Creative cant overtake apple is that they always try to imitate iPod then boast some product as "iPod Killer". However, in the end, Killer is killed.
I feel They should make MP3 Player in their own thought.
So that "Creative", such a good company label, will not be wasted. - AQUaDeX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a warehouse sale, do you actually expect Creative to sell some stuff for a discounted price when it's just released?
- psiit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well if it was really cheap, some people could possibly buy a player and then memorycards that they could label by artist of genre or album. But I think it's still easier to have everything in one.
Still, it really is incredible how fast technology is advancing and product sizes are decreasing. Soon we'll be able to make credit cards as small as the iPod nano! - dustedbunny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They have made MP3 players in their own right. You're just ranting because you're some apple floozy who refuses to accept another company who's come out with something that didnt cost their second born child to have.
blahblahblah. Dig me down if you must. But honestly. Why do you feel the need to rant like that? - blindmoses, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0apple fanboys are the worst kind of fashion sheep
- dustedbunny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...They have shown it....
:| - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I used to own Creative products, but their Media Center that synced up the music was HORRIBLE.
- GeneralFailure, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7Dear Creative: Perhaps you would get more buyers if you start creating original products and make your software suck less.
- DarkDays, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Is "Mystery MP3 Player" the code name for it? It'd be kinda lame if it was..
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -2/+02006 (come 2007) and you'd think we'd have come a lot further than talking about iPod killers.... all they do is play MP3's, and some of them MPEG vids
- applepro, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1they have no clue how to make a good mp3 player. but i give props to them fo trying and putting apple on it's toes. also, the more effort/$$$ they put into these things the faster their company will go bankrupt.
- DanielYH, on 10/12/2007, -17/+9Yea, so many people have ipods, it will be nice to get something different.
- CamZak, on 10/12/2007, -19/+11I just want to get my hands one of those $10 MP3 players, 1 GB of SD memory is $30. Imagine if some company made a dirt cheap $40 or less 1 GB MP3 player and flooded the market with them. The nano wouldn't last that long.
- Mike89, on 10/12/2007, -18/+7"The must have done something right then."
Yeah, realised 99% of the world's population are idiots and are willing to spends all their doe because "it even has a mirror on the back!"
