- MonoDede, on 10/15/2008, -1/+23Don't take his advice!!! He's just saying that so that he can have more crates to dig through himself. IT'S A TRAP.
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -3/+22Even 10 year olds have 3 bucks on them. You should open a lemonade stand you poor bastard.
- Johnnyjm, on 10/14/2008, -1/+14This guy is just a crate digger in denial.
- cloudberries, on 10/15/2008, -1/+13Because it's awesome. I'm sorry if it hasn't granted you some insight into Obama's 24 Favourite Quotes from FPS Games Running On Apple MacBooks, but there you go. The world is a cruel, cruel place.
- Surferess, on 10/14/2008, -2/+13Hard to believe anyone wants vinyl, but I have 2 long shelves of them in my garage, heavy on the Led Zeppelin, ELO and The Beatles. Send the crate diggers over!
- Arasaka, on 10/15/2008, -1/+11"Crate digging: The other form of music piracy." -- RIAA slogan
- snurfle, on 10/15/2008, -0/+9My father has been collecting 45's for years... he's up to over 15,000 at this point.
Most of his time in retirement is now spent going through old 'Life' magazines, cutting out pages to use for sleeves for each record, from the year and month the song was released.
A true labor of love...

- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -7/+15This is Digg, and sometimes the algorithm works to push interesting articles to the front page. Not all of the world is interested in HuffPo, Apple, Linux and Xbox all of the time.
You must be an ipod owner if you don't understand the humor in this article. - ajent420, on 10/15/2008, -0/+8That's great!!
"You won't make friends"
So true...if you've ever been at a record shop when they get a new shipment in, it's like a silent war when you're next to someone going through...but then, someone is always digging a better crate! So true! - WiretapStudios, on 10/15/2008, -0/+8I have dug through thousands of crates all over. It's addictive. I have trimmed my collection back to about 2000, and I'm about to get rid of the bulk of it, save the really nice minty stuff. It's hard to walk in a thrift store and not be drawn to the stack of records and go through 1000 to find one 'gem'. (I used to dj and sample a lot, now I don't really have time for it.)
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -1/+9But only 24 minutes at a time. Then you have to flip the record.
- lunarworks, on 10/15/2008, -1/+7In a world of tens of thousands of songs on your computer, available instantly at your fingertips, there's something more fun and real about vinyl. Don't even mention CDs, because they're basically the same as LPs but not as intimately physical.
I have a pretty big pile of records right now, most of them scored for $1 at thrift stores, garage sales, and flea markets. I don't listen to them often, but I enjoy putting them on occasionally. - rakous, on 10/15/2008, -2/+8BUT VINYL GETS YOU LAID.
- KingGorilla, on 10/15/2008, -0/+5He's just trying to reduce the competition
- ayeroxor, on 10/15/2008, -0/+5This is weird, bizarre *****. But it's pretty neat.
- nem0, on 10/15/2008, -0/+5Vinyl is for pussies. Real men listen to wax cylinders.
- RegalBegal, on 10/15/2008, -0/+5I LOVE crate digging. I only have a small collecton (around 100) but goddamn the feeling you get when you find a rare record, a record you love, or both is fantastic.
My favorite find was an original pressing of Zappa'a Hot Rats. There are others but this one takes the cake. - bossm4n, on 10/15/2008, -0/+5Because some people have taste, not a hidden political agenda.
- Gr00ver, on 10/15/2008, -4/+8Excellent artwork.
Vinyls FTW! - crashbang, on 10/14/2008, -3/+7After lugging enough crates of records around to choke an elephant, I am glad to have Cd's to work with. I know, I know "BUT VINYL IS..." I am too old and back broken for that silly "whats more pure/real?" argument
- minorgods, on 10/15/2008, -1/+5the keyword digg in the title, the cool art, and no political references. :)
- forgiste, on 10/15/2008, -1/+5it's simple, really. Vinyl has an actual etched waveform of the original performance, CD's and MP3's are just digital approximations of the actual wave form. There's never going to be a 100% accurate CD, it's just logically impossible. If you want purity, get vinyl backups of all your favorite albums, and don't play them unless you have too.
- Jaymoon, on 10/15/2008, -0/+3"I walked by a record store, the sign out front said they specialize in hard to find records and tapes. Nothing was alphabetized."
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -7/+10now i need to make some beats.
- minorgods, on 10/15/2008, -0/+3I think you got dugg down by people thinking about their old foghat collection on their belt driven usb decks.
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -0/+3or cuz they assume i dont listen to good music, and all i do is steal it.
- minorgods, on 10/15/2008, -1/+4Depends on how big your headphones are
- dontstaylong, on 10/15/2008, -0/+3because it's funny.
- bipolarruledout, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2This is the problem with digg. Does not do a good job of catering to those with special interests.
- snurfle, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2pottery is for pussies. Real men go on coast to coast AM and tell about time traveling back to hear the sermon on the mount in person.
- deathtoartists, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2for the love of wax, please stop digging so I can get mine.
- yoinksta, on 10/15/2008, -1/+3less than 1% of records in the field are actually worth buying.
- samoan27, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2Anyone digging this is just trying to stop other crate diggers so there won't be anyone digging through better crates.
- samoan27, on 10/15/2008, -2/+4Because the title has the work 'Digging' in it.
- wkrausmann, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2It's actually a lot of fun. I remember going to a thrift store and finding Dr. Roboto on 45.
- doctechnical, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2Soot covered glass is for pussies. Real men put a stylus on a spinning 2,000 year old piece of pottery.
- imnotjohnlong, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2my back starts killing me after like 20 minutes in the flea market
- nesagwa, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2Wow, thats pretty damn cool. Especially the Life magazine sleeves. Never heard of anyone doing that before.
- RegalBegal, on 10/15/2008, -1/+3I'd gladly take that off your hands!
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2still better than crate mixxing or redding
- Jeeto, on 10/15/2008, -3/+5I'd love them... I found a Men At Work album at a thrift store a while back but didn't have the 3 bucks for it.
- digglicksballs, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2Wax cylinders are for pussies. Real men listen to scratchings on soot covered glass.
- junkstore, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2Seriously dude if you're not going to listen to them then put them on eBay - if they're in half decent condition they'll sell. With ELO it really depends which albums you have but you'll have no problem offloading any Beatles or Zeppelin.
Lots of people do still want vinyl, for various reasons such as quality, collection, differences between versions etc. - bipolarruledout, on 10/15/2008, -0/+1It certainly keeps the riff raff out.
- internetcoward, on 10/16/2008, -0/+1Also no one passe smusic because its old, and if they do, they are morons and probably listen to dj's. Maybe you underestimate the musical pallet of people. We all aren't 14 year old girls..
- bipolarruledout, on 10/15/2008, -0/+1I have a feeling that boy eats drum machine (Portland) could break big soon, but damn there SO MUCH good music in Portland I'm continually blown away. Yes, I like the WEIRD stuff and boy do they have it.
- greentimes, on 10/15/2008, -1/+2Steve Albini to the world: I hate digital music. We must all be crate diggers or risk imperfection of sound.
Plus it sounds "fuller" - internetcoward, on 10/16/2008, -0/+1lots of music actually... thats why I posted that. What have YOU done?
- hadamin, on 10/15/2008, -0/+1i think this applies to "music blog digging" (?) as well...
i've been addicted to searching google for music-blogs and mixshow podcasts lately, after getting hooked on underground/ecclectic/classic stuff from sites like brooklynradio.net or funkdc.com
My latest find:
http://digitalmeltd0wn.blogspot.com/2007/05/sixtie ...
It's sad though...once I've raided a site for all that's there to download, a week goes by and all of the sudden I need to look for more. it's a relentless need to find new sites, new "classics", and underground stuff no one else I know is listening to. -
