- pbuschma, on 10/13/2008, -0/+21See, See ... all those hours spent on the C-64 were actually cultural education.
- lektroluv, on 10/14/2008, -0/+19Personally, I think it sounds better as SID music.
- basye, on 10/13/2008, -0/+10What a unique sound they have put together, and it looks as if they are really enjoying themselves in the process.
- borez, on 10/14/2008, -0/+7For anybody who's interested Elektron make a synth called the Sidstation that's built around the origional C64 SID chipset... The sound is extremely fat and very unique

FTR: The orgional C64 sound was so lively because the chip was limited to 3 channels only, meaning chords had to be played as arpeggios. - Luizzle, on 10/13/2008, -0/+7That was pretty awesome!
- inactive, on 10/14/2008, -0/+6Ahhh, the days of the great demos and intros...
- Beowulf2112, on 10/14/2008, -0/+6I love the sound of the old SID chips. God bless the Commodore 64
- raydeen, on 10/14/2008, -0/+6IIRC, the SiD chip was developed by one (or more) of the guys from Ensoniq, the people who brought us the first really affordable pro sampler.
- dirtmonkey, on 10/14/2008, -0/+5I heart the C64

- Pssdoff, on 10/14/2008, -0/+3MULE had the best music on the C64.
- frontaxle, on 10/14/2008, -0/+3I am building a sprite to express my diggery on this.
- DigitAl56K, on 10/14/2008, -0/+3Not all synthesis is an attempt to emulate real instruments.

- poet, on 10/14/2008, -0/+2C64 SID will be forever immortalized as crack/keygen theme music.
- DigitAl56K, on 10/14/2008, -0/+2"classical instruments just aren't relevant anymore"
I have a vast array of software synths and even some hardware synths, and even I find that statement completely ridiculous. Classical instruments are still used all over the place and even in the world of computer audio much time is spent trying to recreate their sound authentically through synthesis or sampling. Even when you can emulate them well with a computer, it would still be nice to be able to play the genuine article, it's simply that most people don't have the skill to do it and real instruments of high quality are much more expensive than their software counterparts.
I'm also a big fan of SID music and tracked songs, but I would never call someone who has taken the time to learn to play a real instrument a luddite. - nedzeve, on 10/14/2008, -0/+2They're using real instruments to emulate a computer that attempted to emulate real instruments?
- ator1, on 10/14/2008, -1/+3Wizball on the 64 was a great game, but I mainly played it so I could hear the high score tune.
- borez, on 10/14/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I agree, but it's a limited run of 200 and, quite frankly, it's pretty rare nowadays that you get a synth with such a unique sound without resorting to circuit bending some old bit of kit. Actually, a circuit bended version of a Sidstation would truly kick ass.
- orlyfactor, on 10/14/2008, -0/+1Dugg for Datarock! I love that song!
- sanman, on 10/14/2008, -0/+1the first time I ever played an EA game:

Classical Synth Blog http://classical-synthesizer.richarddecosta.com/ - 4NDr01D, on 10/14/2008, -2/+3The Original SID versions sounded WAY better,
classical instruments just aren't relevant anymore, nor are the luddite players.
I was hoping it would have been a fleet of 10-24 C64's all lined up and people playing them
that is a real Commodore Orchestra! - goldfinger3776, on 10/14/2008, -0/+1check out these guys http://www.pressplayontape.com/
I heard about them a few years back. They play live versions of C64 classics and sound just like the SID originals. They can play in that crazy 8 bit timing and it blows me away. - iXneonXi, on 10/14/2008, -0/+1Machinae Supremacy, C64 Orchestra, or any SID artist kicks ass. Long live chiptune!
- RickyTheRiot, on 10/14/2008, -0/+03 channels and 4 waveforms; triangle, sawtooth, variable pulse, noise.
Which explains why realistic drums on the C64 were always such a "fun" challenge.. ;) - nakedcellist, on 10/14/2008, -1/+1They are very cool, saw them perform live in Paradiso in Amsterdam, all very good musicians.
- Rothgarr, on 10/14/2008, -2/+1Anyone ever hear that song called "Kathy's Song" by Apoptygma Berzerk? (It's named after the voice in the Mac's OS that's used in the song). Anyway, there's a cool remix of the song done on the C64. (and personally, I preferred the Atari 800).
