- DickyT83, on 01/31/2009, -3/+91That's Spanish for the diablo.
- immatellyouwhat, on 01/31/2009, -8/+93He made a deal with el diablo.
- m00n1, on 01/31/2009, -15/+86Congrats to Bruce for being honest. No PR crap, no double speak. He made a mistake, he owned up. Good for him.
- rdwinder, on 01/31/2009, -3/+60wait till he finds out his cd's are available on the internet!
- PhilPerspective, on 01/31/2009, -3/+45Bruce doesn't need to sell more albums. Besides, he has balls to admit he screwed up. Not many people have the brass ones to do that.
- ChiliMac, on 01/31/2009, -5/+33FIght big business with big busines unions, right? Sorry, most of todays major unions are not their for the workers anymore. They are big business themselves.
- HeyJudeRemember, on 01/31/2009, -5/+26This is stupid:
"Springsteen's team didn't vet the issue as closely as it should have, and that he "dropped the ball on it," he told the Times for a story to be published in Sunday editions and previewed on its Web site."
By vet do they mean a Google Search? What kind of research DID they do? Like Wal-Mart just started this crap six month ago... - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 01/31/2009, -6/+23The haters don't hate Bruce, they're just haters in general.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 01/31/2009, -3/+17Only if there's CAUSE. Jeez, don't try and give "legal" advice again, okay?
- insomniacal, on 01/31/2009, -1/+14Way to eat your cake and have it too, Boss.
- RawkusVoid, on 01/31/2009, -1/+12um? Buy walmart out???? What planet are you from again????
- brickbat, on 01/31/2009, -13/+24"I made a mistake" is about 10% of the way there. To really make things right, take all your profit from the album and use it to support the unions struggling against Walmarts oppressive actions.
- KDX200rider, on 01/31/2009, -8/+19Springsteen is a typical limousine liberal, the things he says and the things he does are very far apart. Very convenient for him to profit from this deal, but still appear to be against it.
Sounds like there may be a spot in Barry's administration for Bruce.
Hypocrisy seems to be the order of the day. - mugwumpz, on 01/31/2009, -9/+19I'm almost completely unfamiliar with The Boss's music, but I haven't heard anything I've really liked except the song Born to Run. He bores me musically. I can only assume that his lyrics are great, and I hear that he's one of the greatest all-time entertainers because of his work ethic.
I think he probably had to cave on this issue because of his fan base. But, make no mistake...he knew EXACTLY what he was doing BEFORE HE DID IT. This was a calculated financial decision...and I respect him for it...well, right up to the point where he lacked "the sack" to stick by his principles and tell people..."you guys can stuff it...this was a business decision".
So much deception and hatred doesn't do anyone any good...and yet, there is SO much arrogance out there about what's right and wrong. The truth is...most people have nothing better to do with their lives that find others to judge. And that's pathetic. Do your thing, and let others do theirs. Stop pretending to be so damn noble. Wal-mart shouldn't be a "destination" job for anyone. It's a leg up into the job market. They sell good products at great prices. There are many positive things to say about them as an enterprise. But...it's business...pure and simple. As an employer...frankly, not all workers need health care and all that crap along with every job anyway. I'd be happy to work there if I was just getting into the job market. - p51d007, on 01/31/2009, -5/+15Bruce sells music. Wal-Mart sells LOTS of stuff, so, from a business perspective, if you want to sell LOTS of music, you place it where there is TONS of foot traffic. Business 101.
He's just trying to save face by telling his idiot listeners that "he's sorry". What a bunch of *****! - MasterGrief, on 01/31/2009, -0/+9Except all the screaming babies and fat people on scooters >:(
- ChiliMac, on 01/31/2009, -5/+14No PR? The only reason he would come out and say this to the public is for PR reasons. He was receiving bad PR for the deal and he is trying to spin it back.
- immatellyouwhat, on 01/31/2009, -4/+13Eso es Espanol para el devil.
- scottmoss, on 01/31/2009, -1/+9Maybe if he thinks it is wrong then don't take any of the money...
- inactive, on 01/31/2009, -6/+14Alright man, now I'm not gonna say you're wrong or anything, and I respect your opinions and all that stuff. But I really, really have to ask. Just... right from the bottom of my heart.
Do you know anything, about anything? At all? Because it seemed like you're just a person who's excellent at making it seem like he has a clue about whatever he's shouting about.
Now just sit back and really mull that one over, I didn't mean to be offensive, but to be honest, you have completely pissed all over reality with this... this abortion of a statement. I would even go so far as to say you have taken a proverbial dump on the chest of reason and sensibility. The fact that you have the intelligence to find the button on the front of your computer leaves me.. just... completely open-mouthed and dumbstruck. Your red-colored, delusional parody of a world you've created for yourself makes me weep for our species. It really does.
Please, PLEASE for the love of God, go back to high school. I know it seemed like a smart idea at the time, showing that dirty lib teacher who's the man, when he told you it was wrong to think that the Sun orbited around the Earth, but come on. We're talking about careers here, and leaving school at 10th grade is no way to find one that is both dignified, and provides reasonable pay. I doubt you want to spend your spare hours trawling Digg to ideologically vomit all over people, in between cleaning toilets and flushing dead possums out of open-air swimming pools.
I hope for the best, good sir, I really do. Education is the key to enlightenment. - gregdigg, on 01/31/2009, -9/+17Springsteen wishes you would shut your mouth about what he should talk about.
- JoeB4ever, on 01/31/2009, -5/+13I didn't know this article was about Dave Matthews Band.
- haydesigner, on 01/31/2009, -1/+8You don't read?
Amazing, then you can just glean the content of web pages by osmosis?? - AndrewDB, on 01/31/2009, -1/+8Well, look at the bright side of things.
When the doctors are right in their diagnosis, you won't know if they are not.. but trust Digg when we tell you, they are. - chadjw1015, on 01/31/2009, -2/+9he's not sorry, his fans got upset so he figured he should save face and say it was a bad idea
- christopheles, on 01/31/2009, -1/+8He recorded Nebraska in his kitchen and that's commercial crap?
- rda1441, on 01/31/2009, -12/+18He's an idiot.
I like walmart. Good stuff, good prices, one stop shopping. Gotta love it. - bobbknight, on 01/31/2009, -6/+12I'll help Bruce out and not buy any of his albums, Arrrgh.
- immatellyouwhat, on 01/31/2009, -9/+15I wish EVERY "Celeb" would shut their mouth about politics... dugg
- superdrew0413, on 01/31/2009, -2/+7I love how everyone on Digg hates WalMart and decries that this company is run by the Anti-Christ himself. Yet how many of you continue to shop there? I don't like the company's labor practices either and I try to shop there as little as possible, but I sometimes do.
The thing that bothers me most about WalMart isn't that they buy cheap ***** from overseas and sell it. (I dare you to only buy American made goods and see what kind of things you don't have. No TVs, computers, video games, most of your clothing, etc.) What I hate about them is how they classify thier employees. My brother used to work for them 40 hours a week, every week, and he was classified as a part-time employee. That meant he got no health insurance or other benefits. Even if you are considered a full-time employee, you are only guaranteed 32 hours a week. - AmandaQ, on 01/31/2009, -2/+7almondfilter3 is clearly a huge Britney fan.
- yacks, on 01/31/2009, -1/+6I normally just throw the screaming babies at the fat people on scooters..
- du4l1ty, on 01/31/2009, -0/+5It's like... Spanish for like a fighting chicken.
- sensibledriver, on 01/31/2009, -2/+7Springsteen, like his entire generation, is THE MAN...the establishment. Why is this shocking to anyone? He preaches one thing and does the other like all of his high dollar buddies. It hasn't been about music for this assclown for 30 years. He stopped being artistic and moved into auto pilot mode to protect his estate.
Springsteen is a bloated, irrelevant Baby Boomer. This Wal*Mart deal (and his phoney playing it off) makes perfect sense- it puts him in great company with other millionaire entertainers that preach political messages to their audience and do the exact opposite themselves, no matter what "side" they claim to be on.
As an aside-
A friends of mine was a DIE HARD Springsteen fan his whole life. He anticipated the release of the abortion of an album he put out after 9/11 (under the false pretense that the "single" was about 9/11) like it was his wedding day. He went to the record store (when those still existed), plunked down his cash and listened to it on the way home. His wife tells the story like this- when he walked in the house, she asked him if everything was ok as he looked as though he had lost a friend...he replied "In a way, I have."
PS - Digg, fix the ***** comment box bug, you hacks. - kenhatesemos, on 01/31/2009, -1/+6all of you people talking about how much you hate wallmart are mindless tools. buying cheap products from asia is NOT a new practice pioneered by wallmart. everyone does it, the only difference is that wallmart doesn't overprice thier items, which actually HELPS poor people! not only that, but they employ millions and they pay well over minimum wage for an entry level job that ANYONE can be hired for.
- deweyhewson, on 01/31/2009, -7/+12Yeah, you're right, because it's not like as an American citizen he has a right, and an obligation, to speak out.
***** moron. - zip000, on 01/31/2009, -3/+8I find it ridiculous when people complain about celebrities stating a political belief. Everyone has a right to their opinion and everyone has a right to lobby for their opinion. I mean, what exactly do you think you're doing when you complain about this? Exactly the same thing. The only difference is that celebrities have a larger audience.
Obviously a celebrity's opinion shouldn't carry any more weight than a regular person, but that doesn't mean that they should shut up about it. - SteveIsTheDude, on 01/31/2009, -0/+5I agree as well! (I wish there was a way to simplify my agreement notification... perhaps a red "I disagree button" next to a green "I agree button"... You Digg guys work on that...
- christopheles, on 01/31/2009, -1/+6It's a ***** Greatest Hits. Who cares?
- skyline35, on 01/31/2009, -2/+7Then why do people still apply/accept the jobs? The benefits must be better than they would receive at any of the other places they could get a job.
- whiledo, on 03/25/2009, -0/+5"This is the way of the liberal."
Uh huh. Considering a big chunk of the "conservative" base is evangelical Christians, and considering one of the core values of Christianity is giving until it hurts, I don't think liberals have the hypocrisy market cornered.
This is the way of the HUMAN. - bogdon6, on 01/31/2009, -2/+6Unions have always been in business for themselves. Nothing has changed.
- ceredron, on 01/31/2009, -30/+34How can there be so many Springsteen haters on this site? I swear... how can you hate the Boss. Not only is he a ***** fighter for American values, but he makes some damn good music (less now, but back in the day he was the king). Man. Seriously, all you haters, just get out if you don't like him. Why do you need to waste your breath on commenting.
- bahamutxd, on 01/31/2009, -0/+4It's a Greatest Hits album - not a new album.
- inactive, on 01/31/2009, -2/+6I don't know why "The Boss" is so in bed with Union Fat-Cats. You'd think Bruce would be for Freedom and against the parasites that suck workers and companies dry.
- ceredron, on 01/31/2009, -10/+14Did you just say Springsteen and the E street band... is...
listen, I'm not a fighter, and I'm not an internet tough guy, but that is ***** stupid of you to say. You must be a little kid to say something like that. *****... the Boss is iconic, for both his fire and his music. Just.. just get the hell out of America. Freedom of speech completely aside, how can you be so idiotic. - inactive, on 01/31/2009, -3/+7"I was against the deal after I was for it."
- AmandaQ, on 01/31/2009, -0/+4What about The Ghost of Tom Joad? That was an amazing album, and the one that turned me on to Bruce.
- ryancxx, on 01/31/2009, -0/+315 minutes of fame? You're a moron.
- secrity, on 02/01/2009, -0/+3@ kenhatesemos;
Up until sometime in the 1980's or so, almost all clothing sold in the US was made in the US, and the exceptions were usually luxury European brands or Korean knitted goods. Until the 1990's or so, most power tools and kitchen appliances sold in the US were American made; again, most of the exceptions were European made. -
