Do da stanky leg, do da stanky leg, do da stanky leg *shoots self* - BrendanSheehan, on 05/04/2009, -2/+21It's easy to forget he's responsible for writing one of the best first verses of any song in musical history. You can hear this song a million times, but that first verse - with the melody he decided to put it to - boggles the mind. As a song writer I think the hardest thing in the world is to write something with such simple English, and a fairly basic melody, yet have the end result be consistently catchy, true, and unique, without being corny
Come gather round people wherever you roam
And admit that the waters around you have grown
And accept it that soon you'll get drenched to the bone
If you're time to you is worth savin'
Then you better start swimming are you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a changin'
It's so simple, but it worked. - Inflammo, on 05/04/2009, -3/+21Good.
- VdgX, on 05/04/2009, -3/+14Judas!
- BrendanSheehan, on 05/04/2009, -2/+8Ignore that typo, it's my Birthday.
- mikemehak, on 05/04/2009, -0/+6Bob Dylan is my idol, my hero and my everything.
- MadHarvey, on 05/04/2009, -0/+5I think there's a right time for Dylan in everyone's life. If one of his albums haven't gotten under your skin by now, give it time.
So many people get hung up on the vocals, or get confused by the lyrics. If you ever drop your preconceived notions about how someone should sing, or just let the words and music impact you without trying analyze every little phrase for literal meaning, you'll be hooked.
His new stuff didn't grab my attention at first, but one day I popped in Love and Theft, and it hit me like a ton of bricks--Just like his early stuff did the first time I heard it. I think there's just a right time for it, if you give a chance.
This latest album hasn't had its day with me yet, but that may be because I can't stop listening to the latest bootleg "Tell Tale Signs" long enough to give it a good listen... - SteveIsTheDude, on 05/04/2009, -0/+4One word baby: Accordian
- JasonHaley, on 05/04/2009, -0/+4I like Dylan but how is this album different than the last ones he's been making? Those were equally as good if not better. So is there some hit single I don't know that is driving this thing? Some weird promotion? I just don't hear a huge difference other than a more gravely voice.
- Sherman901, on 05/04/2009, -1/+4Dude, you're a giant prick. ***** off.
- Sherman901, on 05/04/2009, -0/+3So much anger...
What have you contributed to the world recently? - countjedula, on 05/04/2009, -0/+3I completely agree. I used to not care for Dylan at all, and despised the sound of his voice, but one night, Lay Lady Lay came on the radio and I fell in love. After that I got completely hooked to the album Blood on the Tracks, and am so glad that I got past that close-minded attitude I had before.
- HellGlitch, on 05/04/2009, -0/+2Brilliant. He always was and always will be a great artist.
- sandersdamnit, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2I don't believe you...... Play it ***** loud!
- HEAVYisSPY, on 05/04/2009, -2/+4Honestly I like listening to Dylan covers (by the Byrds, etc) because as brilliant as he is, some folks just can't stand that voice, and I happen to be one of them. Talented guy, tho.
- Fleagleman, on 05/04/2009, -0/+2soy bomb
- optionshiftk, on 05/06/2009, -0/+1I absolutely love Bob Dylan's audible smirks and laughing on "My Wife's Home Town"
- BrendanSheehan, on 05/04/2009, -2/+3If you knew enough about the guy you'd also know he likes to change the lyrics (and the melody) when singing live. Think before you snap, friend. I've seen him adding completely new sentences, not even just words.
Here's a poem I just wrote for you to take with you:
To be lucky enough to even get an opportunity to have a chance to take on the world, you must first take on yourself. - UnarmedHippo, on 05/04/2009, -1/+2crickets
- optionshiftk, on 05/06/2009, -0/+1In the interviews, Bob Dylan said he wanted the album to have a Chess/Sun record feel to it. That explains the accordion.
- optionshiftk, on 05/06/2009, -0/+1To like "Together through life" I think you have to come at it with a certain sort of depression, and broken heart. It is very much a love blues album. Just as with "Modern Times" and "Love and Theft"
- optionshiftk, on 05/06/2009, -0/+1Does anyone think Apple with advertise Dylan's new album with an iTunes T.V. Ad like they did for Modern Times? I hope so. Steve Jobs is a Dylan nut, so I would suspect he would arrange such a thing.
- Carlix, on 05/04/2009, -0/+1How does it feel....
How does it feel.. - optionshiftk, on 05/06/2009, -0/+1Dylan is a very cleaver and unique artist. It seems everyone has their favorite period of Dylan whether that be the 60's Folk Dylan, Electric Dylan, 70's Dylan, Born-Again Dylan, and now Blues Dylan. Personally, I love all of these creative periods, diversity is essential.
- RedHawk911, on 05/04/2009, -1/+1There's a lot of good new singer/songwriters around right now. Joshua Radin, Joshua James, The Weepies, William Fitzsimmons and many more if you like that kind of music. Maybe not as good or big as Dylan but still worthy the attention
- wikedguy, on 05/05/2009, -1/+1Shame it's not actually that good.
- xero69, on 05/04/2009, -1/+1"Do da stanky leg, do da stanky leg, do da stanky leg"
Small simple lyrics designed for small and simple minded people - mntclwn, on 05/05/2009, -0/+0Well, he's no Billy Bob.
- inactive, on 05/04/2009, -1/+0"Shake shake mama like a ship going out to sea" *shoots self*
- Blinker1315, on 05/04/2009, -6/+5As a longtime Dylan fan whose first record purchase was "Another Side of Bob Dylan" when I was 9, this new album is just the pits. I'm glad he's doing what he loves, and his radio show is tops, but I just can't listen to any of his new music.
- uskomaton, on 05/04/2009, -6/+3Honestly Dylan wastes more talent in a single ejaculation than the whole rest of the top 5 has combined. Especially Beyonce, can't someone kill this talentless crackwhore already, please?
- SteveIsTheDude, on 05/04/2009, -4/+1As long as your quoting great poets, how about 50 Cent, who wrote: "We don't give a ***** if its your Birthday"
- SteveIsTheDude, on 05/04/2009, -7/+2Great! The big question is, how does he keep making such great music?!?!?
- harrisbradley, on 05/04/2009, -11/+6Just so we're clear... ♪Every-bo-dy must get stoned!!!!!!!♪
- cards, on 05/04/2009, -7/+1You'd think a songwriter with such respect for the song would bother to get the lyrics right:
...you'll BE drenched to the bone...
...better start swimmin OR you'll sink like a stone...
Maybe petty, but those are the correct lyrics to the song you speak so highly of. http://www.bobdylan.com/#/songs/times-they-are-cha ... - Hardataq, on 05/04/2009, -9/+3How menneh roads mehst eh meeehn walk dehn behfehr yeh cehl hem a mehhhn? <3 Bob Dylan.
- inactive, on 05/04/2009, -7/+0Well, for one, he had Robert Hunter write most of the songs.
- ngb5012, on 05/04/2009, -13/+3The real answer is, its not great music!!!!!!!
- whitedove66, on 05/04/2009, -15/+4Wow, talking about being earth friendly, this is definitely recycling
- dinglebutt, on 05/04/2009, -16/+3He found more things to whine about?
