- reject, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32The end is the best part. Ben Folds is brilliant.
- kyleh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22i like the postal service version better, my opinion...
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Because he's Ben Folds.
- cuddleparty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19gibbard sounds better singing that song, but it was still pretty darn good. go ben folds.
- elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Frankly, fellas... I coulda used more cowbell.
- trogdor282, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17I think we can all agree that Ben sounds better than Ben.
- thekak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Nice. Wow he tears up that piano.
- jcaino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I was privileged enough to see him live when he came to Pittsburgh a few years ago with guster....
wow what a performer....guy does great live sets - at one point he had guster come out to play with him and in the middle of the song he went around and took turns playing everyone else's instruments...ben has TONS of friggin talent - its absurd...
if you want a good cd, check out "the Bens" with ben folds, ben kweller and ben lee.....quite a group when together... - SundayTrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Yea, and Iron and Wine's cover in Garden State.
I like Ben Folds but this cover is not the best of the three. - Noctem, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I love Ben Folds, he's so damn talented. Gotta love his cover of 'Bitches Ain't *****' :)
- corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14He is HANDS DOWN one of the greatest pop-rock-jazz piano players of our time.
- corneliousjd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I love ben folds.... but his vocals in this cover just aren't doing it for me. the "instrumentals" (if you want to call it that) are fabulous.
- mateo60, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12It's a different, and damn good, version of a great song.
In case people are wondering what the hell happened to Ben Folds. Basically when his record contract was up, he didn't renew because he was tired of dealing with the big labels. (In fact he has a song about it titled "One Down: and 3.6 to go and tomorrow I'm out of here" It was referring to him only having 3.6 songs left in his songwriting contract w/ Sony). Now he releases his music independantly and often on iTunes. - RatherDashing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10def. cool. Any reason why he played the ring tone for macarena at the end?
- bebop717, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Ben Folds = Digg
- JAWS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Used to be BIlly Joel for me on the piano (if you've ever hear him tear into a song it's a treat....) but I think Ben has got more talent in his three right fingers than Joel has/had. Truly a humbling musician's musician.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Literally, the best rock pianist *ever*.
- tafkase7en, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Frigin awesome.
- fjvwing, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15'sounds better'? Ben couldn't hit half the high notes, and kept running out of breath.
- danielsan1701, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Who's got an MP3?
- jbink303, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm jealous. I want so badly to be able to go back in time and see him in concert when he was on his solo tour. I've listened to 'Ben Folds Live' 'till my iPod wore out. Freakin' amazing talent.

your an idiot (wanted to make sure you knew) - duster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I was never cool in school, I'm sure you don't remember me...
WHO THE ***** ARE YOU!? - csw3190, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Part of what makes this so incredible is the unusual (and original) instrumentation...very creative. That paired with his distinctive vocals make it such an incredible recording
- trogdor282, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The guy in the video ;)
- Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You're comparing a spontaneous live recording to the studio edited/recorded Postal Service version? He probably didn't even prepare his voice before this; IMO as a singer, he did a pretty good job. Not excellent, but not bad either; probably as good as gibbard would do
- tgilber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Huh? Are you implying that it's not originally a Postal Service song? Or what?
- greyfade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4to me, it's not really his singing that makes his music so fun. he just rocks his piano so hard that his music just oozes with his coolness, which is why the cover is so uniquely good.
- MatthewR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I say this with every anticipation that I am flamed for it, but it isn't mean to be negative really.
People sure really seem to like this song. That's the bad part. I have heard it covered for a Honda commercial, M&M's commercial, now this. Don't get me wrong, none of which are bad versions per-se, I just don't know what the obsession to cover it is. The original version is mighty fine, IMO.
I think the most obvious thing is the relative proximity to the release of the original. If this happened a decade or so from now, I could see it making a bit more sense.
Interesting percussion, I will admit. Use it for an original project.
My $.02. - ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"if you want a good cd, check out "the Bens" with ben folds, ben kweller and ben lee.....quite a group when together..."
Add to that Ben Gibbard, and you've got a lot of creative+musical Bens. - spect3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I would digg this 5 times if I could!
- trunce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ben's voice is something you have to grow to love, I believe. You can't deny its distinctiveness, though.
Amazingly innovative cover of a song. - deehomsarro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you liked this, get his live album. There's a cover of Tiny Dancer and he has a 5 minute solo in a song. He's without a doubt a very talented human being.
- sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3...no, actually it was the other way around as far as I know. Iron & Wine did a cover of Such Great Heights.
"The song "Such Great Heights" was written by Ben Gibbard with friend Aaron Kaplan in 2003, according to an interview with Gibbard in Spin magazine."
And Iron & Wine's cover came out on The Postal Service's Such Great Heights single. - echo1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ fjvwing
yeah, lets see you play a percussion instrument like a piano as fast and intense as he did for four minutes straight and see if it doesnt sound like you're out of breath
try seeing him live, his voice is unbelievable - skartel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Even crazier coincidence, I was listening to the Ben Folds cover of "Such great heights" before stumbling upon this story.
This is from a radio station in Australia - Triple J. They get bands to come in all the time and do "Like A Version" (Cover songs). They get really interesting, especially this one. Ben Folds is a truly amazing musician.
To those criticizing Ben Folds vocals, remember this is a live performance, and he had his piano muffled for effect, and was putting a lot of energy into the piano, while singing. - positron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Love Ben Folds and I was disappointed. I expected a different and more unique interpretation of this song. And what's with that singing? Sounded more like Ben was trying to sound like Postal Service than himself covering them.
- fjvwing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's exactly what we tell each other at the Brenda Vaccaro Fanclub meetings!
- psych0fish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2One of the very songs that sold me on Ben Folds :)
- kingofthisnight, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I will agree with that. I was not even remotely impressed with his singing.
- peterman81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Voice sounds a little whiny. 10/10 on being innovative with a cover.
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yeah! you tell em matt!
also, PRETTY WOMAN WAS WRITTEN BY VAN-HALEN then roy orbison did a cover of it, IDIOTS!!!!! - black|math, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Iron and WIne version (The M&M Version/Garden State Version) was much better . But that was worth the listen.
- Jolene, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I've never heard any of Ben Folds' stuff before, and I have to say that was pretty good. I didn't like his singing voice too much though.
I still like the Iron & Wine version best... - vemerge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As do I. Postal Service is good stuff. This is still great entertainment.
- aks123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Crazy coincidence, I was just listening to "Such Great Heights" before stumbling upon this story.
- RomulusX86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This video is amazing, The Postal Service is truly an amazing band, and this proves it.
+digg - RomulusX86, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2^
I meant Ben Folds, and Postal Service :) (my bad) - Leviss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1*dontsayfanboy opens mouth wide.... where is that foot??
