Jefferson City, Missouri
Art Schouter, longtime reader of the popular news aggregator and discussion website Thigg.com, submitted an humorous article Monday only to realize later his submission predated the Internet, the telegraph, blue jeans, and Christ, Jesus H.
"That submission is as old as the Pentatuch," said Rabbi Wayne Wanreich. "While it may have been funny in the time of the Torah, many more timely submissions might have been accepted in its stead."
The venerable rabbi added that even a submission from the so-called New Testament would have been more recent and perhaps more humorous, depending on the audience.
"Not everyone finds Jesus as funny as I," he said. "I mean, as a prophet, he was great, but as a comic, HI-larious. Seriously. Look it up. It's all in the book they call Acts of the Apostles."
Schouter could not be reached for comment. Neighbors said he was most likely at the Capital Mall looking for back issues of Harper's weekly, his fondness for passing along outdated humor boundless.
"He likes to find old Mark Twain quotes and stencil them onto railroad cars," said Sarah Hartly, neighbor and acquaintance but specifically not friend.
Schouter also reportedly lists Super Grover on his top 10 comedic acts of all time and enjoys prank calling people who still have land lines. - jaybol, on 11/18/2008, -2/+3Would this article be any different to you if it had today's date on it? Do you ever watch movies or listen to music that is older than a week old?
