- steger, on 11/20/2008, -0/+44Axl rose - forever a douche.
- turtlegroove, on 11/19/2008, -0/+34Thats cool that Krist has a journalist gig..He always seemed like a cool guy and it must feel a little weird to see Dave Grohl have so much success. He's a good writer and he seems articulate. I hope this works out for him.
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -0/+34Back when MTV didn't suck so much *****.
- drmobutu, on 11/19/2008, -1/+25I bet nobody else even noticed the bass was distorting...
- topgigmedia, on 11/20/2008, -1/+24Story about meeting Krist as my a$$ nearly exploded:
Background: I played in Seattle area local bands for much of the mid to late 90s, just after Nirvana ended, but still during the time of their legendary local popularity.
One fine summer day back in 1998, I planned to meet our bass player at his apartment to hash out some riffs and hopefully hammer out a few tunes - assuming we didn't get derailed by our collective ADD, which seemed to always preserver.
I arrived at his ground-level apartment a little earlier than expected. I waited out front no longer than 5 minutes when it dawned on me that my rectum was going to explode if I didn't final a toilet, like NOW! - cheap Indian buffets - while cheap, they really know how to empty you out in a hurry.
I frantically checked to see if there were any open access points to his apartment, and the only one was a cracked window in the back, adjacent to the alley which met a residential side street. Ah, access, except besides risking getting caught by some passer-by onlooker on the adjacent street, the other hurdle was the fact that I would have to contort my body somehow to be able to pass between the iron bars infront of the window (Capital Hill - Seattle Apartment).
Luckily I was much thinner and flexible in those days, so I started my human pretzel impression. Just as I managed to get half of my torso between the iron bars, I looked up and noticed this figure and his 2 dogs still and staring at me with his arms crossed. It was Krist. I could barely get out anything audible because of the pressure from the bars on my ribcage, but I said, "hey dude - I-I know this guy who lives here and I don't have a key - um, we-we are meeting here - um, I have to drop the Cosbys off at the pool, ok?". Krist smiled and watch my pathetic self gradually wiggle my pre-erupting self thru the bars and into the apartment. Once I was thru - he gave a double thumbs up and continued walking his dogs as if he had a brief, paid cameo and it was now over. Turns out later on it made it into one of his then band's songs.
I will finish this story (i.e. what happens on the inside) if I have enough diggs, otherwise - I won't waste your time or mine. - badwithcomputer, on 11/20/2008, -1/+23http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8oT9ag631Q
- inactive, on 11/19/2008, -0/+17Krist is so awesome. He's a legend 'round these parts...
- Nick217, on 11/19/2008, -2/+18a classic MTV moment!
- greenvortex, on 11/19/2008, -0/+16Kurt changed the lyrics in the last verse for this performance to: "I'm so retarded...I can't take a sell-out"
At the same show Guns N' Roses played "November Rain" with Elton John on piano. It sounded awful. I read later that Slash's guitar was in the wrong tuning and he felt like an ass when he saw the tape. - IvanB, on 11/19/2008, -0/+14I recall reading that Cobain spit on the piano thinking it was going to be used by Axl. :p
- calebian, on 11/20/2008, -0/+14Krist = genuine good guy
- FaithclubDotNet, on 11/20/2008, -0/+13I like how he says he faked getting knocked out. Thats something all cool kids learn when they're young. If you fall or injure yourself, always look like it was a lot worse than it was.
- dagnabbit, on 11/20/2008, -0/+12I'll forever digg anything Nirvana.
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -0/+12This is how I learned to play Guitar Hero, by watching Krist Novoselic catch a bass with his forehead.
- bruins72, on 11/19/2008, -0/+12Interesting read. I've also read one of Duff's columns. Both Novoselic and McKagan sound like very intelligent guys that lived through the crazy rock world and came out without too much damage. Kudos to Seattle Weekly for having these two write for them.
- consumerwhores, on 11/20/2008, -0/+9I don't think they ever called them the MVAs.
It's always been VMAs. - calebian, on 11/20/2008, -0/+9MTV has Always Sucked. Just because they suck a lot more now doesn't mean that back in the day they weren't already sucking a buss full of *****.
- cerealjynx, on 11/20/2008, -0/+9Krist Novoselic came into my work the other day.
No one figured out who he was until he left and our manager came over all super giddy.
Dude is tall. - twiztidsinz, on 11/20/2008, -0/+8*twiztidsinz slaps asdfasfasfd around a bit with a large trout.
- ethanpack, on 11/20/2008, -0/+7He's talking about the on-stage bass monitor sounding distorted and apparently eventually failing. The house speakers and the television broadcast would've been (and sounded) fine.
- joshmoney, on 11/20/2008, -0/+6Back when MTV actually had classic moments.
- Xihix, on 11/20/2008, -0/+6Krist is bald now.
- Tarsmus, on 11/20/2008, -0/+6Double Negative. You were 30.
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -0/+6Oh man, that solo Slash pulled on November Rain was one of the all-time worst moments in guitar history.
- granolajoe, on 11/19/2008, -0/+5Damn, it's great to hear from Krist again, whether it's music or written words :)
- RSS14, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVeVCwI4VV0
Sigh, I miss Nirvana. . . - moffie, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4Call me old but I can remember when MTV stood for "Music TeleVision" and they used to play music videos!
- iamorlando, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4you can come clean GrungeRock, are you Krist Novoselic?
- ethanpack, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4Well that also explains why they said "Axl... Axl..." at the end of the performance. I figured they had beef, but didn't know about the backstage drama beforehand.
- centerblack, on 11/20/2008, -1/+4http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLZbbgVw7Jg
- bongo, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3I'd digg your story, except for the insult to Bill Cosby. I f%&$ing love that man.
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3I meant to do that. /peewee
- r0g3r, on 11/20/2008, -1/+4I dunno, after reading how glad he was to have champagne with brian may, he's not a bad guy after all. :)
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3dont force your music taste on me please, thank you.
- twertyto, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3I certainly didn't. I remember the performance very well. I was completed floored by the level of energy that the band was given off especially David Grohl's performance with the hair wailing and drum pounding and all.
- muleskinner, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Just what I was looking for. Thank you sir.
- MatchkeY, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2From the comments on the site

^ grohls memory of it. - zip000, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2In that clip he looks like Andy Kaufman.
http://andykaufman.jvlnet.com/realandy.jpg - mrcaulfield, on 11/19/2008, -2/+4I distinctly remember that performance and I couldn't have been
no more than 5 or 6 years old. - L0NER, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2MTV made the grunge scene 'blow up' in an attempt to legitimize its self....
its the only point in their 25 year history when they weren't totally pop. - wonkavsn, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2I've always wondered what happened with that fight during Love Buzz when the bouncer-guy wouldn't let Kurt back on stage.
- JaggOff, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2i was at that show. krist was out of it.
- algaeturd, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2It was clear that he faked it, even when I saw it live. But theories abounded. Glad to see him finally admit that even though he had a bit of damage, it was more drama than anything else. Watch the video and see where it hits and what his reaction is.
- MixMastaKooz, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cr_XGnbsLZw
Whole song performance: They do a couple quick licks of "Rape Me" at the start. Cool. - kevyn, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2I will finish this story (i.e. what happens on the inside) if I have enough diggs, otherwise - I won't waste your time or mine.
oh you tease - centerblack, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2You're not old, MTV died right after Real World Season 2/3, maybe a little before.
PUCK FTW though. Guy cracks me up.
