- HoboMaster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+60She was harmonizing with herself. I think it was great.
- revjustin2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38It's the whole performance (how she gets there) that makes this video amazing. The end product is almost secondary. She is playing that sampler like she would any other instrument and her ability to build a such a tight composition from scratch is what blows me away. All of those sounds came from her and were mixed in real time.
Her mic technique is f'ing awesome, too. She is truly talented.
Keller Williams is also another artists who uses this kind of technique, btw. - Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Is that Zach Braff in the audience?
- joelpt, on 10/12/2007, -6/+33Just FYI if this story appears as a duplicate on digg it is because I should have posted it to Videos/Music initially but only posted it to Music. My apologies.
It is, however, worth watching twice ;) - dbhaley, on 10/12/2007, -6/+33Imogen Heap:Music::Stephen J. Hawking:Physics
- vbagate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26I challenge any American Idol to top that! Awesome.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Wow, she's a extremely talented singer.
- bergur1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18MMMM what you saaaaaaaaay
*gets shot - Huevoos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Love it, this is an awesome new twist in music, at least for me.
A Must See.
Edit, and now I know she was in Frou Frou!! Really great indeed - retrodavid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15High Quality version of the whole show (20 minutes/102MB):
Highlight and copy/paste it.

- berfmurret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14hide an seek isnt autotune. its 50/50 mix of her real voice and a vocoder.
- dogstylee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14That was cool. Makes you realise how we don't even know about people like this with incredible musical talent, yet we're forcefed the ***** that plays on our radio stations. gg RIAA.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imogen_Heap - spoonism, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Actually Imogen Heap started out about 2 years earlier than KT Tunstall...
- Scoresheet, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17"Don't get me wrong, I dig Imogen Heap, but her voice sounds like that because it's smothered in Antares Autotune"
wrong. - Scoresheet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Yes. this was a radio series he did where he could invite his favourite artists on to perform. check out www.rehearsals.com. They have the whole radio show on HD video. Remy Zero, Rachael Yamagata, Cary Brothers, Imogen Heap and Schuyler Fisk all playing live for a tiny audience. It's really cool and very few people seem to know about it, so you can be the one to clue in your friends.
- crosswick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Dunno, I also heard some typical Autotune deformity in the sound of her voice. Have you ever worked with AT?
I personally don't mind; I think AT can be a great vocal performance tool. And what a performance this is! - danieldrehmer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8She used to sing in a very cool project called Frou Frou... Very recommended.
- lookadeez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7This settles it. I heard "Hide and Seek" about a year ago on a plane and it blew me away. Like a dummy, I let the feeling go and never bought her record. After seeing this, I am definitely going to get her record asap. She's a great talent. And for the record, lots of people do the sampler/vocal thing, and it's not that its the most innovative thing in the world, its just that it fits the song perfectly. KT Tunstall does it well also, but to be honest, I just don't like her music all that much. No matter what tricks you use, it's only the song that matters in the end.
- lordshank, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7One track where she does really drench her voice in a "wet" 'tuned mix is "hide and seek" off of speak for yourself. This one, not so much, if any.
- dericko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I love her album 'Speak for Yourself'... Been listening to it for a year or so now, and it's very peaceful and excellent to sleep too.
Doing this live is pretty awesome... - retrodavid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"digg me down if you must"
mmk. - lordshank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It looks like a tc-helicon vox fx floor box. http://www.tc-helicon.com/VoiceLive Maybe not the exact same model, possibly the older version. I am glad to see that she is a fellow Ableton Live/Mac user
- L3on, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7"utilizing nothing but her voice" and clapping her hands, i was hoping for some beatboxing...
- PATSCRU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4c00000001 is completely right.....i'm an audio engineer, and it's real easy to hear autotune when it's applied, and it definitely is in this case. However, she is using it as an effect rather than as a band-aid, and a subtle effect at that, which is cool.
- ri0t, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oh right, because every musician must be compared to every other musician that used the same instrument or style or genre.
- Al3x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3www.myspace.com/imogenheap
- jesuschrysler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah, and what's up with her using notes, they're sooo passe.
- poogtastik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Freddie Mercury is not impressed because Freddie Mercury got AIDS and died 15 years ago. Queen is great, and Mercury is among the best vocalists of all time, but I don't see how why they're relevant. Freddie's dead, and Queen is bust. Imogen Heap is still recording and performing amazing music. Get over it.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Damn that was cool.
- joelpt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Imogen Jennifer Jane Heap. It's her given birth name.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imogen_heap
It is a weird name but she didn't give it to herself as you might be assuming. A quick search on Google also reveals Imogen is not a name unique to her. - Tredici, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Your username is 'democracysucks'; you're not worthy of opinion.
- Scoresheet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4yes astaunding is a stupid word. When i saw it I thought "only a stupid person would use the word "astaunding".
- BigPapasan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does anyone know what piece of hardware is left (her left) of the mixer? (close up at 2:34)
- gerrylazlo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There definitely is some autotune going on, but not because she is a poor singer. She's fantastic ( I bought Frou Frou and speak for yourself). AT is being used to keep her overdubs in pleasant harmonic 'grooves' for lack of a better term. There is a very distinct faint mechanizing in even her very first line.
Brit and her ilk are obvious with AT because it's pumping like a monkey just to make it listenable. Imogen sings well so it hardly has to do anything. It's just another tool to sweeten the music that in some cases is used where talent is sorely lacking, but this isn't one. - nick111, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you like that, you might like this...

Probably my fav song of 2006. Her other stuff is pretty good as well. This is probably the best video I saw in 2006 :
http://youtube.com/watch?v=DgXUctWDF34&mode=related&search= - Diancechet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It says what it is in the description for the video. There are a lot of things you can use.
Abelton Live is really great if you get a midi foot pedal and do some crafty assigning - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wow she has a beautiful singing voice.
- crosswick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think it's an Electrix Repeater:
http://www.electrixpro.com/products/repeater.html - Jolene, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone know how to save the stream that retrodavid linked to? Never tried to save streaming video before.
- starrrie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Yes, this video is something else. I've already watched it repeatedly!
- WebCester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Theres one other female solo artist who does this with her guitar and voice."
I think you mean KT Tunstall:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=IIO2qpSsUTA
Both her and Imogen are awesome in their own right, but they have completely different styles. What is it with Great Britain and great artists lately? Amy Winehouse, Imogen Heap, KT Tunstall, they're all so talented at what they do. - BenHanby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've tuned out of music stations and stopped buying CDs/downloading for a couple years now music because I was having a really hard time finding music that I liked.
Imogen has so much to offer that she's actually managed to get me interested in music again. What a great voice and talent! - kev009, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Beautiful. One of my favorite fem. vocalists.
- kaffein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2She mainly used the repeater hardware looper to do the loops... Also the voicelive had some pitch correction on it.
I guess Ableton wasn't being used in this song, just idle in the bg. - Wonderkind, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3She's wonderful. Thank you for submitting that.
- c0ldevil, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Simply beautiful.
- dfltr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2hide and seek is great... in an interview she said that she recorded it purely with a vocoder, a harmonizer, and some effects pedals.
- thesimo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2she is actually synthesizing her voice in this clip, and possibly using a guitar pedal or two, her other performances aren't as good
but this one is really awesome :) -
