- ifonly, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26You could go to: http://www.albumbase.com
It is the nets largest free album database and links to file hosting sites such as rapidshare, megaupload, etc, I think theres something like over 22000 free albums. - awa1ct, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26Once you find the song you want to download, open the page's source, and look for something like this: view/blopbpoboblooppoollolboolb.mp3. It is apparently a randomly generated filename inorder to prevent people from getting the files from the site. Well, maybe when they find this out, they will make it harder. But, for now, enjoy your free music
- mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22This could actually be really useful, so I posted a way to do this without having to go through the source code:
http://tech.cybernetnews.com/2006/04/30/download-music-from-mybloopcom-for-free/ - CanuckMakem, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Or move to Canada where fileswapping is legal :D
- Jetboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Amazingly, out of all the options you present... Holding up a recordstore will probably result in you doing less jail-time than if you had just downloaded the mp3s!
- knightblade2oo4, on 10/12/2007, -9/+19only if you get caught.
- boredzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10"Hmmm. Why have all our security cameras gone dark? And why is there an 'RIAA' van parked out front?"
- jambarama, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13I'm not sure this is a great idea - it kind of proves the RIAA is right - whenever we can pirate stuff, we will. And as such DRM almost seems justifiied (I hate it as much as any anti-customer device, but it seems like the RIAA can claim to be justified).
But since an artist only gets 4.5 cents from iTunes (per song), and 0 from allofmp3, it is more beneficial to an artist if you pirate the album then mail the artist $5 or whatever. Cut the middle man out. - Phyltre, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Oh, look, another way to work waaay too hard to get free music.
Sheesh, after searching the source code for misnamed tracks one-by-one, downloading them, and renaming them (also one by one), you might as well pay for it. Or, you know, use filesharing. - aurath, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10actually, im pretty sure it is illegal... however the riaa is after the people who share/upload/host them because they're the ones that matter. Just because they don't care as much, doesn't make it legal. share on!
- the1casey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Albumbase is a great site with tons of music. All rapidshare, megaupload and the like... Most of the music is in the alternative, hip-hop and rock/pop genres though, so you probably won't find the obscure jazz cd you're looking for.
But for those other genres, they've got links to everything.. - Jeebugorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@goat
they still have record stores???

A combination of PHP errors and a "Our database is undergoind maintenance" error
Either we killed it, or they killed themselves to stop this - wlkgfestiv, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Another way to get free music (and movies, books, and sometimes wifi): your local library
- winampman2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Site is up now, but its slow as hell.
- andrethegiant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5you guys notice that every time you type in the search box the google ads refresh?
- radda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I can get through every once and a while...I think it's us :(

Nice, but awfully close to blogspam. Heres the gist of it:
1. Do a search for a file or MP3.
2. A list of matching files will now be displayed. Once you have found a matching file right-click on the filename and copy the link ( the link will look like this: http://mybloop.com/?id=blollooopobopllpbboopooolb.mp3 ).
3. Paste the link that you just copied into your address bar. DO NOT EXECUTE THE LINK YET.
4. Before executing the link you need to change ?id= to view/ (your link should now look like this: http://mybloop.com/view/blollooopobopllpbboopooolb.mp3 ).
5. Now execute the link and your browser should provide the save dialog box to let you store the file on your computer. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9emule

hold up a record store - pixeleyes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This is sort of turning into a Post your way of getting music topic, rather than disscussing the site
I am just getting loads of MYSQL errors - hutch113, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Or, to get the music you can use Firefox, block the ads with AdBlock and use Download Embedded to download any of the media from that site.
https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=1993&application=firefox
Another site that has a lot of *free* music, and is an "open music catalog project (that) aims to create a free catalog over popular music to day. It is edited and developed by volunteers."
http://www.itismusic.org/ - bbene, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6There's always the search on G2P.org
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4God, this takes me back using those programs that would access a couple dozen of those online storage accounts that were popular in the late 90s, and the program would automatically log in download a few rars from each account until it would get shut down.
- sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I still support artists that I really like. But anymore, unless they're unsigned, I can't justify buying an album from an artist that I'm not sure I entirely like on less than an average college student's salary.
Until the record companies stop collectively shafting us up the butt, I'll shaft them back. An eye for an eye, I say. - Backlash, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Most likely :-S
- SlappyMc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4it is soooo digg effect'd
I wonder if the "hack" will still be working by the time it gets put back up. - Terc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5No, it is not legal to download copywritten content (or store it on your computer) if you do not own it. As far a copywritten content goes, if you don't pay for it, and it isn't given to you, then you are stealing.
Interestingly enough, you don't even have the right to rip a copywritten cd to your computer (thanks RIAA for a ***** law) - thinkdifferent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3In other news, you can use a coat hanger to "share" your neighbor's cars. "Free" music == stolen goods. Just because there is a big warehouse (MyBloop) for storing & distributing the stolen goods, doesn't make them free in the legal sense.
If you really want to support artists, support the independent ones who offer their tracks directly on MySpace, or Podsafe Music Network, etc. Better yet, if you enjoy the music, donate to them. But don't shroud stealing music in the "sharing" misnomer. Major labels are bastards & overcharge consumers & screw the artists, but stealing the music is still wrong. - Astrayred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Its pretty good for video files as well.
- subscriber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's stealing because you have taken a (copy) right that does not belong to you.

- haroldyates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, flac format is the best way to go: lossless & open source.
- br0ck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Go to Google. Now you have just viewed and copied their copyrighted page and logo to your hard drive. Is that against the law? No, because they explicitly put it on a public site with a public URL which says, please welcome yourself to download and view this material. Now, someone puts up an MP3 on their site with a direct URL and you browse to that URL and listen to the song. This is still perfectly legal. The only ambiguity in this case is that the authorized distributor made the links public through idiocy instead of intentionally, but since the URL is a simple public URL, there's no way, in my opinion, that you browsing to that URL could be construed as a crime.
- megatj21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind
-ghandi - RustyBurrito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1When they release their new version it will supposidly be "impossible" to download the mp3s and you will only be able to listen to them. Interesting.

- subscriber, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1They are saying at allofmp3 that they pay royalties ... is this not true?
- geekee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You're supposed to borrow the cds and dvds though, not make copies of them.
- liquidedge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Still not as easy as just setting up a gmail account and giving out the u/p. Obviously you have more of a space limitation, but 2.5gb is good enough for most people's active playlist.
