      I'm not putting her anywhere close to the level of these musicians, but think of what the Beatles achieved and then allowed drugs to destroy? The only reason people blame Yoko is that John was so paranoid at the time he wouldn't go anywhere without her - including the recording studio. I'll bet that was helpful for creativity :(

      Think of what Brian Wilson could have done if he wouldn't have used drugs and exacerbate his mental illness? It's just a shame. Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, etc., etc., etc. Such a lame way to go out...

While drug use influenced their music for the better it was also obviously destructive in their personal lives.

          Alot of people from that time period where experimenting with drugs, jimi was no different but he wasn't strung out on them like people believe.

          You said it yourself, you've only heard one song from her and you ask for proof. Mainstream music is rarely the best music that the artist produces. Understanding someone's music takes more than just one song because none of us are capable of forming a full opinion without hearing at least a portion of an artist's catalog. Basing someone's talent on one song, their most played one at that, is a flawed process.

          That being said, I'm not terribly big on Amy Winehouse. Good drama, however.

          My very last thought when I hear an addict has hit rock bottom again is 'they deserve it' or 'I hope she dies'..It's just cruel and you shouldn't make these horrible blanket statements unless you've been there..

        Although an addiction to a substance can be sometimes impossible to beat, you have to figure that there was a first time for everything. This means that she made her own decision to get into that crap when she WAS NOT addicted to it.

        You may have a predisposition to mental illness, in fact, it is very likely that you do carry that gene. That doesn't mean you are going to definitely have a psychotic episode. What causes these things, medical science does not yet understand. That's why there's no cure for drug addiction.

        No one is saying people with addictions are not troubled: they are very damaged human beings. In most cases they have myriad character defects and flaws. But these don't exist in a vacuum: they come from somewhere. Often it is childhood experience, bad parenting, or such like, but not always.

Its easy to judge something from the outside, when you are completely uneducated on how addiction can rule a persons life entirely.         - yes I understand that which is why I hate all this hype. IMHO Sharon Jones is a better singer has a better range. I could go also go on about the Jewish connection and there bing a conspiracy but people will see it as anti-semetic. Other white women (I don't know if they are Jewish) that should be recognised for singing like a black lady are Ria Currie and Alice Russell. How come they're not being marketed? Is it because they're not crackwhores?

        - True but we should care about those that are more talented. Sharon Jones & Dap-Kings (along with Jimmy Cliff) are headlining Rise. This is a step in the right direction.
