- diggan8, on 04/02/2009, -1/+33+5 Internetz for the first person to bundle this all up into a torrent or nzb... I ain't picky
- ahoy, on 04/02/2009, -0/+28there are a lot of people who dont like In The Aeroplane Over the Sea... I'm not one of them.
- thankyoupatrick, on 04/02/2009, -1/+19godspeed you black emperor!
- inactive, on 04/02/2009, -0/+17No Flaming Lips? How is that even possible? :(
- mdbsat, on 04/02/2009, -5/+21Death cab for cutie at 13?? Give me a break. Maybe 113.
- dazparkour, on 04/02/2009, -1/+15Dugg as it lacks Nickleback.
- Tony611, on 04/01/2009, -1/+13Mostly a good list. Its actually genuine good indie rock rather than the generic hipster band that you've never heard of. Although Pedro the Lion's 'Control' needs to be somewhere on that list. They do have the Promise Ring, which I will give them credit for.
- 5wallace, on 04/02/2009, -2/+13Personally, I think Funeral by Arcade Fire is great, but I think their more sophisticated Neon Bible is one of the best albums of the decade. Sorry to see its not on the list.
- lblitzer, on 04/02/2009, -1/+12I'm surprised Merriweather Post Pavilion is already on there. It is a fantastic album though.
- DocDrea323, on 04/02/2009, -0/+11I'm kind of surprised that Michigan by Sufjan made it over Illinois, especially because critics and fans panned over Illinois. Then again, maybe that's why.
Also, no Decemberists? I realize they're on a major label now, but back in the day... - ventralnet, on 04/02/2009, -0/+10I assume that is /sarcasm lol
- VolSurrealist, on 04/02/2009, -0/+10Wow, Dugg just for the entire list being on one page!
And for The Notwist, of course... - inactive, on 04/02/2009, -0/+10Semen stains the mountain tops.
- inactive, on 04/02/2009, -6/+16hipsters..
- Cojafoji, on 04/02/2009, -0/+9The National is #93? I agree to disagree for some of these, as most of these are actually large bands, and hardly indie... However, they scored big because they had The Magnetic Fields.
- CB810, on 04/02/2009, -4/+12Great list. I would include "Rusty" by Rodan; "Gentlemen" by Afghan Whigs; anything from the early Modest Mouse; "Tropics and Meridians" by June of 44; "Bug" by Dinosaur Jr.; "Murmur" by REM; "Bleach" by Nirvana; "Skag Heaven" by Squirrel Bait; "Up on the Sun" by the Meat Puppets; "Future Perfect" by Autolux; Ben Folds Five self-titled; "Silent Alarm" by Bloc Party; "Songs About *****" by Big Black; "Let Me Come Over" by Buffalo Tom; "There's Nothing Wrong with Love" by Built to Spill; "The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place" by Explosions in the Sky; "Novelty" by Jawbox; "Double Nickels on the Dime" by the Minutemen; "Scream, Dracula, Scream!" by Rocket From The Crypt
- shamos, on 04/02/2009, -0/+8A top # list about indie rock.
Some things were meant to be front page.. - manbearpig1, on 04/02/2009, -5/+13How can you leave Modest Mouse out of a Greatest Indie Rock list? Lame.
- jawbreaker4fs, on 04/02/2009, -1/+9People like that shouldn't get to make indie rock lists.
- idsarealright, on 04/02/2009, -2/+9if you have to ask, no
- avianeddy, on 04/02/2009, -1/+8Dugg for "Feeling Sinister"
Belle & Sebastian are the definition of indie music
~
Good list overall, gotta expand my collection substantially - mikeskates7, on 04/02/2009, -1/+7The Violent Femmes should have topped this list and they aren't even on it.
It is the only album in history to go Platinum without ever being on the billboard top 100. How can you get more Indy than that? - bdbr, on 04/02/2009, -0/+6Good point, "Castaways and Cutouts" deserves a nod.
- cococrispies, on 04/02/2009, -0/+6not sure if explosions in the sky is indie, but they are awesome
- cardyology, on 04/02/2009, -2/+8no, you'll still be a douche.
- jerrycan, on 04/02/2009, -0/+6Starbucks? Really?
- inactive, on 04/02/2009, -1/+7Walk into a Starbucks and say "Neutral Milk" and every hipster in the place will need a change of pants.
Walk into any other establishment and say "Neutral Milk" and no one knows what you're talking about. - rainierbeer, on 04/02/2009, -0/+6logs onto demonoid...
- mooseofshadows, on 04/02/2009, -0/+5I want to digg you because I assume you are being sarcastic, but then again, I just can't make myself digg that.
- likeyehokwhatev, on 04/02/2009, -3/+8Holland 1945 was the first track I heard off that album.. still one of my personal fav's
Now she's a little boy in Spain
Playing pianos filled with flames!!! - jawbreaker4fs, on 04/02/2009, -1/+6That's definitely not true. Critics and fans give them their due credit.
- jankind, on 04/02/2009, -0/+5Have they never heard "Perfect From Now On" ??
And with bands like Archers Of Loaf, Modest Mouse, My Bloody Valentine, The Wedding Present, Helium, and Dinosaur Jr, missing from the list... some of these bands don't belong anywhere near it. - inactive, on 04/02/2009, -0/+5"Awww, kinda of a new record, very nice Rob, a sly declaration of new classic status slipped in with a couple of old safe ones, very PUSSY!"
Pffhh looks like a ripoff of the Pitchfork list, which also blew. - ladysherwood, on 04/02/2009, -0/+5anything > Nickelback
- freeridstylee, on 04/02/2009, -0/+5I see a lot of bands that should be on the list, but don't agree w/most of the album selections.
- harryrick, on 04/02/2009, -0/+5Funeral is the better album imo and one of the rules is one album per artist. Really cocked up of Montreal.. definitely should've been Hissing Fauna.
- nicc, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4at least 4 representatives from the Elephant 6 Collective...nice.
- d0ctaew, on 04/02/2009, -1/+5You will turn IN to a douche if you do.
- Killmaster, on 04/02/2009, -7/+11So if I listen to all of these records then I'll be cool?
- Roboctopus, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4I think it deserves the praise... but someone gave me a copy at a rough time in my life, and that album resonated with me in a weird way. Maybe it all depends on when and how you hear it.
- jawbreaker4fs, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4A surprisingly astute list! I would have picked There's Nothing Wrong with Love instead of the Built to Spill album they did, but to each his own.
Edit: Wait a minute, how can this list exclude My Bloody Valentine - Loveless? - bigfatphony19, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4That album is mindblowing.
- bothra, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4As someone who hung out with Jeff in 93-96, the fratboy statement is completely off base. The E6 collective on a whole is far more anti-normal than anything like that.
- tattoojoo, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4Dugg for #41, although I think his newer album, "The Flying Cup" was much better as a whole.
- itsmikey, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4Make me a list of some good *****.
- moxley, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4They have some good stuff on there, but that list FAILS for missing the greatest indie rock album of all time (tied with Pavement's S & E which they DID get):
It FAILS for not having Dinosaur Jr's "You're Living All Over Me."
No P.I.L "Metal Box," "first issue" or "Album?"
As Moriarty23 pointed out, it should have had Polvo/Archers - the Chapel Hill scene was ***** on by this list, specifically Polvo's "Celebrate the New Dark Age," or "Archers of Loaf's "Icky Mettle."
Where is Big Black? Rapeman? How can you not have "Atomizer" or "2 nuns and a pack mule?"
Where the ***** is "Unknown Pleasures?" No early 4ad (as einexile said) like Cocteau Twins?
WTF Amazon... - inactive, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4K Records snags spots 25, 26, and 46. Now that I think about it, it's a really incestuous list, or industry, rather.
- zip000, on 04/02/2009, -0/+3You've got to be a little prepared for that, yeah. I suppose so.
- pilesAREbetter, on 04/02/2009, -0/+3I already think you are cool!
- AYOTTERIOT, on 04/02/2009, -0/+3yes
