- trevz0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This was amazing to watch, but the music and the video are cool. A must see!
The video was having some loading problems, so here is a youtube mirror: http://www.youtube.com/?v=SBTbC6ImCVo - awfulshot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://www.ethanwiner.com.nyud.net:8090/rondo.html
- spartan777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i play cello myself, so this is doubly amazing. i'm burning this to show my class. i though this guy must be a professor, but it turns out he's a programmer, writer, and cellist!
- EthanWiner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Folks,
Thanks very much for all your comments. It made my day! The only problem is you guys are so "persuasive" that my web site got overloaded and my web host shut me down. And I have a high-bandwidth account! Worse, this also shut down my company's site. So in the mean time please use the mirror site that was linked earlier.
Thanks!

It needs more Cowbell.
It had to be said. - EthanWiner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey folks,
I see the mirror is not working well either. Here's a link to my video at iFILMS:
www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2684939?htv=12
The files there are not as hi-res as mine, but they're not too bad.
Thanks.

Apocalyptica is FINNISH, not RUSSIAN.
Please, lets get the facts straight before we derail from the original article.
Oh, dugg for a great article for anyone who appreciates music. - QuantaS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1LETS GO CELLO! w00t my favorite instrumet :)
- n3tfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this was ***** ace lol. any haters can piss right off.
- normmccray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Digg crowd never fails to impress me with what they're willing to appreciate =]
-starving Cellist- - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ absurdist.
Heh heh I thought it might be TERRY Riley, was too lazy to check. I actually liked the piece, at the time, and recently found it again.
...dang, now I've revealed my age.
I never actually liked Metallica, but I liked the 4 Russian c
ellists covering the familiar melodies.
And I especially liked the Weird Al version, called either "Internet Sadman" or "Off to Napster Napster Land".
(Downloaded it in the early days of Napster, I never knew the correct title.)
"I keep my T-1 opened,
I'm rippin' your songs right now....
--We're in debt....to the in-ter-neeeeet
Sue our fans...
It's off to Napster Napster land"
...an early RIAA protest song, from before most of us even knew the name RIAA.
LOL
Thanks for the comment...now check out my torrent.
Perhaps I'll look for the Zappa one. - Tyger11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you like cello music, try listening to Zoe Keating - she has a CD and an EP CD out, with all the sounds (except for a few on a few songs) done by her on the cello. She even does this live, using some hardware to loop sounds she makes, which she then controls throughout the song. Fantastic stuff. Check her out at http://www.zoekeating.com/
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The video file is downloading slow, so try the coral cache:

Please be sure to keep seeding, after you download it, to give others a chance.
Torrent Name: Ethan Winer - A Cello Rondo...
http://www.mininova.org/tor/237504 - bshankle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0With Ethan's permission, I've set up a torrent tracker and page for Ethan's videos here:
http://66.179.164.8/rondo/
Please be a good bittorrent citizen and seed at least as much as you download.
-Bruce Shankle - bshankle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Video is also now available on Google Vidoes here:

Enjoy.
-Bruce Shankle - gonefishin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 Thanks a bunch Ethan...I Digg it!
dan - Slugo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great video...we killed the guys business....it is awesome but to kill the guys site and the youtube link is kinda crappy. Maybe we should have emailed him and put up a torrent or mirrored it somewhere
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That video is hilarious! (especially the spinning "WOW" bit near the end)
I'd love to see some parodies of it appear on the net! - lynnseck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anybody knows where I can download it?? :( I cant access that site :( help!
- Firemeboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks for the iflim link, Ethan. I tried to play it for my kids last night, and couldn't get to it. I know they will love it.
Dugg. - WockaWocka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What, no star wipes?! I liked the idea of this and the music, but the backgrounds and graphics were more annoying than beneficial. Something simple with less movement/animation would make this come across as a lot more professional.
- aKae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0+ digg awesome job + the look on the guy's face is just awesome.
- jbenson2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+023 tracks and all played by one man on one instrument. Very impressive.
- I8PP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0digg for the guy not being able to afford any other instruments
digg for the cheesy video - nhansen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0digg effect...page unavailable :(
- kd5ftn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That song was neat, but as far as the video is concerned, that's the worst keying I've ever seen.
Excuse me while I go throw up now! (okay, he can still play cello better than me, heh) - lynnseck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Omg, why I cant get there. :( serverdown!!!
- aliensporebomb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When I first got a computer capable of recording audio back in 1997 or so,
I did this track:
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=243889&songID=1746572
It's 16 tracks of harmony guitar essentially playing the same theme
with everything else coming from the same sampling drum machine
(processed uptuned basses for the synth pads, synth bass and
sampled drums).
I'd redo it differently today but it's worth a listen if you like layered
stuff. - senfo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great video. That was awesome.
- fibber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I feel for this guy. We've not only killed his site but his business as well....
Digg can ruin you! Beware!!!!
Meh to the music though - mrbiiggy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFvlX6syNVg
- ybdetsop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Parodiac took a speech clip of the late pope John Paul 2nd, and used nothing but that to create a quite funny (if you digg the old pope) piece.
The process is documented here: http://www.parodiac.com/msgboard.phtml?order=toc&board=0503241431443287
No video, though. - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ flashman.
I am seeding it, as I just created and uploaded it --from my download of the video, in WMV format
Hopefully, those downloading it will also seed it, if many others want it.
This is a good way to counter the Digg effect on (friendly) servers! Remember it. - xx0xx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0would there be an audible difference between 37 and 36?
sounds pretty slick though, with the effects and all.
lets have some cello shooters. - dwhitbeck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This guy is a wonderful cello player even if he does have multiple personalities.
- pintong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Weird Al Yankovic - Enter Napster / Internet Sandman (Metallica parody)
Connection to article: it's the same crappy band that was covered by the (Finnish) cellists in Apocalyptica."
I got news for you - not every parody is by Weird Al!
I agree, the video was cheesy but the song was great. Also, I've done a number of one-man pieces before and I have quite a few friends, thank you very much. - jjjjjjb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good for him - it would be even better if he fixed up his vibrato and some intonation towards the end...
It's easy to knock something, much harder to actually do it. - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey 24.21.29.134 Your download is almost done! :-)
I looove Azureus! heh heh - DMCau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A mirror:
http://dmc.filecloud.com/files/file.php?user_file_id=119984 - VinniePaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the video is a *****' trip
- quietamerican, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Second tyger11's plug for Zoe Keating (http://www.zoekeating.com/).
Had the fun of being her housemate and watching her evolve her style and master her gear. Her current stage show using Eletrix Repeaters to live-sample and loop many many layers of her cello is pretty amazing. She doesn't use FX, she just uses her control of timbre to get different voices and qualities. Amazing. Her new album rocks btw. - PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks for whoever put up the torrent on Mininova (im too lazy to scroll back up)
- TokenUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The closest I come to playing music is on my iPod.
That was great. I would love to hear him do all the parts to Kashmir :) - Flashman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dude, is anybody even seeding that torrent?
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I will have the file in about three minutes, and will post a torrent link here.
We need more servers. So open up your BT apps and help out! - RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That was really enjoyable. A nice piece of music.
- jguy584, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That was crazy, Digg++++
- jnorris441, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0He was high when he edited that *****
