- davidwasman, on 05/06/2008, -7/+44See, THIS is why I joined Digg years ago...articles like this. A really great entry for the contest. And I love that they used Citizen Kane...a movie which is never outdated.
Sadly, it will be buried off the front page by Political crap, stupidly old, outdated, and juvenile 4chan memes, Gizmodo's spam of the day, or a repost from 3 months ago with f*cknuts digging everyone down who dares to say it is old telling them "I've never seen it so it is new to me".
Sometimes, I wish I had a 'punch them in the throat' option on my mouse. - nynety, on 05/06/2008, -2/+27Citizen 'Kane', goddamnit!
- scoetrain, on 05/06/2008, -0/+11"Citizen Cane" looks like the title of a ***** rap CD.
- rollxnut, on 05/06/2008, -2/+11WTF?
- MrFurious2k, on 05/06/2008, -1/+10Dugg for Citizen Kane.
If you haven't seen the movie, it's worth seeing. When I first saw it, I wasn't immediately impressed. Yet, over the period of the next few days I couldn't stop thinking about it. I realized what a brilliant movie it was - really a great film. - Asvetic, on 05/06/2008, -0/+5The stock ticker at the bottom hurt my eyes.
- borez, on 05/06/2008, -2/+6Nice, a musical art installation that actually makes something that sounds half decent
- Dystisis, on 05/06/2008, -2/+5This is ***** awesome. I've always heard song and rhythm in the way people talk.
- porkdanish, on 05/06/2008, -0/+3It's interesting to watch Kane back to back with Tim Burton's "Ed Wood". It's a complete stylistic homage to Wells' masterpiece.
I do believe that Kane lacks the same focus and pace as "The Magnificent Ambersons" or "Touch of Evil" but it has more reach than the former and more energy than the latter. - codaofchoice, on 05/06/2008, -2/+5That is amazing.
- dialectical, on 05/06/2008, -1/+4The scene from Citizen Kane that they used in the presentation is very famous and absolutely brilliant for the time. Most of the camera techniques used in Citizen Kane were original and are still heavily used today. Great flick, and a great choice for a demonstration of this machines capability.
- Steven8890, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2stupid
- tumoas, on 05/06/2008, -1/+3Need more videos of different soundtracks that it has done music of!
Sounds really cool and freaky. - ieure, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2Indeed. To truly understand how groundbreaking this film was, you need to watch other films from it's era. There is no comparison.
Also, with the exception of one extremely minor character (a waiter), it was the first time any of the actors had worked on a film.
I recommend "RKO 281" and "The Battle over Citizen Kane" if you want to learn more about how it was made and the circumstances around it's release - it almost never saw the light of day. - JayDoggy, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2Had he not fallen from the graces of Hollywood as a result of Hearst's reaction to Citizen Kane, I'm still curious what Welles might have done next. As it stands, he still delivered an incredible body of work. I strongly recommend "The Lady from Shanghai" and "Mr. Arkadin" as must-see viewing.
- DonSlice, on 05/06/2008, -1/+3Um.... Okay...
- Listor, on 05/06/2008, -2/+4I for one welcome our new music playing overloard's
Hey at least we now get music with our overlords. - nutzngum, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2proof that you can find music in anything...
- MrFurious2k, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2That's a great point. A lot of the shots that are standard today were pioneered in this film. It really was brilliant all the way around - story, acting, and cinematography.
Oh - one last thing. Rosebud. - joepeppitone, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2hehe I was only watching that last night. I think I nearly blew up too
- porkdanish, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2Because it has historical weight. Had they even used a modern day classic like Pulp Fiction (which has many of the same musical qualities in the dialog), the "installation" (I hate that word) would be passed off as fluff -- unimportant, gimmicky pop art.
- Xool, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Could of sent that to John Peel, if he wasn't 6 feet under. He would have lapped it up.
- ieure, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Because it's one of the best films ever made?
- inactive, on 05/06/2008, -2/+3Thank you. And if the poster had ever owned a Chicago Manual of Style it would be, 'Citizen Kane' (1941).
- Willy99, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1and this is better still Ballet Mecanique - Fernand Leger/George Antheil. He used all kinds of stuff for the audio... including huge airplane propellers blasting and a police siren.
http://www.liketelevision.com/liketelevision/tuner ... - StanleyKoolPrik, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Lice on the heads of ***** giants.
- Princeamor, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Thats kind of like a wav to midi converter. We already have software that will do that and you can put whatever instrument you would like to play the notes. It's cool to see that they did that externally though probably without even knowing that it could already be done on a computer lol.
- soulkitchen, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1ITS A SLED!
- dafragsta, on 05/06/2008, -2/+3No one loves Necco wafers.
- dkkicks, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1Wait a minute... there was no cane in Citizen Kane
- apophenic, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1By that same logic, it's not Deep Blue that beat Kasparov, it's the people who programmed it. If someone who develops an AI can't predict what it is going to do, then it is acting on its own, in some sense.
- jhsiao, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1You're all morons
- majordanger, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Gotta love the artists...
I see he found a legitimate use for the accordion as a counterweight. - Willy99, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1Check out this early piece of art, music film synchonicity insanity by Fernand Leger / George Anthiel - called Ballet Mecanique
http://www.liketelevision.com/liketelevision/tuner ... - jlcotton1968, on 05/06/2008, -0/+0My thoughts exactly.
- RevinKoze, on 05/06/2008, -12/+12But will it blend?
- Stroggoth, on 05/06/2008, -0/+0He could ditch the old cans and crappy sounding guitar and just generate the music digitally. It would be drastically more pleasurable to listen to.
- kinneys, on 05/06/2008, -4/+4NEWS FLASH... In an attempt to reproduce "Koyaanisqatsi", this amazing music machine blew to smithereens.
- UPC747, on 05/07/2008, -0/+0You ever feel like a ***** idiot when you post something completely wrong? I sure would. It's called proofreading, try it sometime.
- dafragsta, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1Heh... I did an experiment a month or two ago using Citizen Kane samples to try to create an air of creepyness. It's in the intro ambiance noodling section at the beginning. (There is some other stuff after that.)
http://tinyurl.com/48uzjy - foofoobee, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1Go look up "art" in the dictionary and then think about this question again.
- ohcoaster, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1do shakespeare.
- Zoshchenko, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1Sorry, but it buggs the heel out of me that you mispeled Kane.
- HeDiggMe, on 05/06/2008, -4/+4Cool---now do a loop from Snakes on a Plane.
- frenchi, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1*insert obvious joke about effect of having small penis*
- Suzilla, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1Remarkable! Bravo!!
- Diderotten, on 05/06/2008, -2/+2I never thought about it until now, but this kind of robotics should be considered an art medium. A mix between sculptures and theater. What an amazing machine.
- funkyant, on 05/06/2008, -2/+1It's not the machines creating the music. It's the people that made them.
- Gotham, on 05/07/2008, -1/+0That is corner than corn puffs
- mrnoob, on 05/06/2008, -2/+1um, that was ***** horrible....
