- harvinator24, on 07/18/2009, -9/+73Disco is not "back," the only thing that is back is ***** hipsters wearing tight clothing.
- popzero, on 07/18/2009, -1/+53Apparently you can't kill it with fire.
- shutaro, on 07/18/2009, -2/+48Disco Stu will be pleased.
- ticookie, on 07/18/2009, -3/+45No matter what they say, disco as it was is dead. It might've changed and become a new style of dance, but disco is still dead.
- Rufunki, on 07/19/2009, -0/+28All This Has Happened Before, All This Will Happen Again
- fadeout, on 07/19/2009, -4/+32Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.
- Manchildcartoon, on 07/18/2009, -2/+28It's dead Jim.
- babyheadout, on 07/19/2009, -0/+23Whatever. EVERYTHING has been back for a quite a while. Every six months I have someone tell me that the 80's is back.
- windycityhxc, on 07/19/2009, -2/+19This sign actually belongs to my uncle. It's in my grandma's attic right now. A little piece of history. http://www.jahsonic.com/DiscoSucks.jpg
- Soytaco, on 07/19/2009, -0/+16Cocaine is a helluva drug.
- TheInsomniac, on 07/19/2009, -0/+16Ibiza is an island that is popular among citizens of Europe it's an island where it's party 24/7, it has many of the biggest nightclubs in the world, and that's where the biggest DJ's have the biggest gigs, look it up.
- tisk, on 07/19/2009, -1/+16Disco never died, it just re-emerged as House music in the mid-80's, and still survives as such today.
- Firespray1138, on 07/19/2009, -3/+17I just found out about Disco Demolition the other day. They set the ***** field on fire, that is awesome.
- dafragsta, on 07/19/2009, -2/+16I hate disco, but I love the Bee Gees. Is that wrong?
- belebih, on 07/19/2009, -0/+13Well it makes sense though. Record companies started mass producing disco, some even focusing on it almost exclusively. Add to that the fact that disco was more expensive to produce overall. They put all their eggs in one basket and when the backlash hit they really didn't have much else to offer. It was a huge investment that just didn't pay off.
So I'd say it's not that people didn't want to buy anything else, it's just that there really wasn't much of anything else to buy. - richlw, on 07/19/2009, -0/+13It's an island south of Spain, and one hell of a party central place. Suppose it works best, especially since it sprays foam, so I've seen on the Travel Channel
- JAGUART, on 07/19/2009, -0/+11Those tween hipsters never lived it. They romanticize it.
70's Disco? You can't handle the 70's disco. You weren't there man, I was.

America's sexual revolution was about as sexy as a pimply faced teen going through puberty.
For decades they've touted the "Return of Disco". It's a threat.... - Xplorer, on 07/19/2009, -1/+12Disco Stu doesn't advertise....
- dougmc, on 07/19/2009, -5/+16Disco never died. The US just rebelled against it to a degree.
It lived on outside of the US, and the article even mentions this.
And really, it had a profound influence on dance and pop music ever since.
It may be cool to say that disco is dead ... but it isn't, and it never was. - belebih, on 07/19/2009, -0/+11So the new disco is for kids who don't wanna do drugs in raves? Really? Cause I mean disco without drugs is like a BLT without bacon.
This generation is gonna make for some boring ass movies in 20 years... - KermitJagger, on 07/19/2009, -2/+13Jesus, I had to live through Disco once. Please don't let it come back and get me.
- inactive, on 07/19/2009, -0/+11Interestingly, the Disco demolition that signifies the "death" of disco and coincides with the end of the disco era that dominated the mid-late 70's *also* coincided with a 17% drop in record sales and what is often thought of as the biggest crash the music industry has ever experienced, with several major labels (like the legendary Casablanca) going bankrupt. It wasn't until Michael Jackson's Thriller in 1983 that the industry started to get back on its feet again.
It just strikes me as ironic because while the Disco demolition was a strong statement saying "we aren't going to buy any more disco", they also seemed to be saying they wouldn't buy anything else, either. - ophello, on 07/19/2009, -2/+12Burn, baby, burn.
- PsychoPNut, on 07/19/2009, -0/+10drugs dont make you cool, they make you high
- jtotheoe, on 07/19/2009, -0/+9thats the lamest genre name ive ever heard.
- joshmoney, on 07/19/2009, -2/+11One of the better examples of the NuDisco sound (although I hate terms like that) is probably Justice "DVNO". For the video they animated classic TV intros to the lyrics of their song. If you haven't seen it yet it's a pretty slick and well developed concept, not to mention a badass tune!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etWi1bOotd0 - mathyu21, on 07/19/2009, -5/+13Gregory Nathan Wilkins says that the new disco is for “kids who don’t want to do ketamine or Ecstasy to boring techno all night. Of course, there will always be some who take drugs. But disco brings a natural high.”
hmmm guess I'm in the "some" demographic. - mathyu21, on 07/19/2009, -1/+9I'm a blowhard so I hate on people that have more fun than I do.
- Slackdragon, on 07/19/2009, -2/+10Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
- benroy, on 07/19/2009, -0/+7Why do i keep hearing about ***** fads of decades past reemerging every few years? And why is it always ***** fads? Can't we just bring back rock'n roll? Preferably if it's from 1974 and 1994 respectively.
- dougmc, on 07/19/2009, -0/+7Disco Stu doesn't actually like disco anymore.
http://simpsons.wikia.com/wiki/Disco_Stu - DeusNova, on 07/19/2009, -0/+6Pretty much any type of modern electronic dance music can be traced back to house which spawned from disco. Most people associate disco with the cheesy commercial stuff but disco had a huge underground, some of the underground stuff isn't really that bad...you can hear early elements of electronic dance music even. But yeah....commercial disco was pretty terrible. Since there's been a disco revival going on maybe there will be some type of revival with Chicago House and Detroit Techno which will ultimately lead to a revival of proper raves in the UK. Funny how stuff works in full circles.
- kstephens, on 07/19/2009, -2/+8Disco doesn't suck. Bad Disco sucks. And was there a lot of it. But there was quite a lot of amazing underground music then, and now.
- jtotheoe, on 07/19/2009, -3/+9youre right. this article seems to be confusing the term "disco" with "all dance related or electronic music"
disco is definitely dead, and anyone who claims it isnt probably thinks that it lives on with elvis and tupac somewhere in paris. - eShinn, on 07/19/2009, -0/+6Disco never died - it's living in elevators the world over.
- Sieker, on 07/19/2009, -4/+10DISCO SUCKS!
- inactive, on 07/19/2009, -1/+6you made me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWRWYYt47RI
- poxonyou, on 07/19/2009, -0/+5I suppose it's hard to determine what this article is talking about. If they're talking about some artists in the indie-dance/electronic subset doing music more directly reminiscent of classic disco or if they're just referring to a revival in dance music in the mainstream. If the latter, your Justice reference is fine. If the former, it's quite off. My original comment was interpreting it as the former. I also didn't mean to sound like a snob, but styles change fast.
- TwwIX, on 07/19/2009, -1/+6Disco Infernoooo!
- Schmidtopolis, on 07/19/2009, -0/+5"What was will be, what is will be no more"...
Sorry, Ghostbusters 2 is on TV right now. - inactive, on 07/19/2009, -1/+6I'll digg it... the grave, that is.

- inactive, on 07/19/2009, -2/+7If anyone actually likes electronic music, they'd know that there's been disco for years.
Metro Area made an amazing album a few years back. There are countless Nu-disco releases, just check beatport, why is this news? If anything, we've been oversaturated with disco over the last few years. - PsychoPNut, on 07/19/2009, -0/+5oh... thats why you cant kill it with fire
- steakmusic, on 07/19/2009, -2/+7disco music is the soundtrack of hell
- orbish, on 07/19/2009, -3/+8Where the ***** is Ibiza and how is this place determining the return of disco?
- syncpulse, on 07/19/2009, -0/+5well my day is ruined.
- DCesque, on 07/19/2009, -4/+8Disco never died, it's been called house music for like 20 years now.
Digg FAIL. - sharkydog, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4@ JAGUART: Next time warn somebody that you're going to post a link that will scar their psyche... I thought I had escaped from that banality 30 years ago. Now I have to find a wire brush to scrub my eyes...
- Chicagoland, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4Disco might have died in Chicago but it was reborn as Chicago House music and from Chicago House spawned Detroit Techno, the rest is history.
