- irrationalman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+79actually..he seems to tap the guitar a great deal
/smart ass - MourningZoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33Wow I posted this long time ago. It's Erik Mongrain and I know him from some forums. I used to play Diablo 2 with him :)
- Jon20usa, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13This guy is good but I think Andy McKee is better. He plays the same style but IMO is a lot better.
Check out his video of Drifting which has had over 3 million views and over 23,000 votes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddn4MGaS3N4 - xboxgamer91, on 10/12/2007, -13/+20It has been submitted so many times.
- bj00rn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Now THAT was class... The "A guy playing a guitar... Kinda..." video was fine, but this video is in a different league.
- pastasauce, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I do this a lot... But it never sounds that good...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Same guy:

3700 diggs. - number9ine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@YoctoYatta
Any open tuning can be transposed to another key easily with a capo or (depending on the tuning) by retuning 2 or 3 strings. The second method of course requires alternate fingerings and will result in a somewhat different sound (some notes will be at a different octave relative to the original composition) - rtakach, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6It sounds a lot like a hammered dulcimer (sp?)
That is a way cool instrument.
This guy is talented. http://www.erikmongrain.com/ - strabes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, it's an acoustic guitar, and during the shots of him and the crowd you could see he had some pedals on the floor, which is interesting.
- Hamsterpotpies, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow, I cant belive this has gotten to the top 10 videos of right now. Wow...
- Slothy88, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7tabs plz. lol
- DubbleA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Take a look at one of his songs: AirTap!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbndgwfG22k - RAEP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Seen it before. He kind of reminds me of The Books.
- xutopia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I find he gives his all in the first few seconds of starting his songs... same with all his songs really. He's got talent but seems like he wants to prove it to you from the start instead of letting it linger. Hear any of his songs on youtube and you'll see what I mean.
- iloveroundtable, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Whatever - I just can't wait for the new Britney Spears album to come out.
/sarcasm. - spensercoke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If you like this, check out Stanley Jordan. He taps most of his songs sometimes playing two guitars at a time.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8g14H4cT2o - anotherjeff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2so uh... anyone wanna tab this?
- DuraznosTJ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Diablo FTW
- YoctoYotta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2EDIT
- antikmart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I bet that guy gets so much pussy
- jcaino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1will have to watch the video later, but ben harper also plays with the guitar on his lap as well
- GIJosh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wow, that was amazing. Aside from his interesting style of play, the music alone was very soothing...it sounded, in a way, electronic. (I bet that's the first time the electric guitar has been compared to electronica!)
Awesome job Erik. - luet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Reminds me of steve reich. And techno music. It's also like how a bassist taps.
- dugR, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3he is better than me at guitar, but i really hate when people try to mimic this style of playing, and they end up just slapping their guitar, and hitting a natural harmonic every once and a while, and then they throw in some hammer ons and pull offs. with of course some tapping thrown into the mix. but it just so easy to mock i think.
i just like normally playing the guitar, not hitting it, however i like the creation of different sounds like what tom morello does - squarehalo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1impressive ... but is he blind? :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRov2XscQJc - gemlarin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2How did this year old video just now make it to digg?
- jockser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i keep seeing metal rules..
what are the metal rules and who decides them ?
are there any like committees about them or precedents ?
can you bend such rules ?
do i go to prison if i break a metal rule ? - awfulgrace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This guy is like Kaki King x 100
- bayareacoder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This kind of 2-handed tapping is the same style that is used to play the Chapman Stick -- a kind of hybrid bass and guitar that is designed to be played by tapping alone. The two sound similar in that they have a sort of combined rhythm AND lead sound coming out of one instrument.

- sporkyzero, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@spensercoke
that was a cool video. thx. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Percussionists rule
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2>>I wish this style were more widely played.
Reminds me of Michael Hedges, who died in a car crash about 10 years ago. a couple of Hedges' clips:

You must not like well written music. It's okay.
I feel you ZeroVector. - roosterjm2k2, on 10/12/2007, -14/+9What an amazing, insightful, helpfull little commenter you are.
I haven't seen it before. Then again, I don't spend every waking moment on digg either...my bad. - Slvgx, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Air Tap! has alredy hit the front page my friend.
- YoctoYotta, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4I should add, this does take some technical proficiency . . . these guys fingers are pretty good. This is just very uncreative form of song writing.
- YoctoYotta, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3@number9ine
Capos are for the lazy. I should have included Capos in my first post. They're just as cheap as open tunings.
@everyone else
Have fun playing your dumb Dave Mathews covers - ZeroVector, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3What ever happened to actually 'playing' the guitar?
- KillerJ59J, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1roosterjm2k2: I've seen it a few times from around a year ago. I didn't have to find it on Digg; I found it from my love of original styles of music and adapted playing.
- YoctoYotta, on 10/12/2007, -15/+4This is stupid, open tunings (non-standard) are the cheapest trick in the book. The number one problem with this style, is that unless he retunes his instrument after every song, ALL of his songs will be in the same base key and will sound the nearly the same.
He's okay at tapping and making use of harmonics, but 50% of the sound heared in that video is him hitting open strings. Real guitarists write songs that don't rely on having to hit open strings. If you can't transpose your song into any key, you're weak sauce. - redmond007, on 10/12/2007, -17/+5Metal rules. This guy suxx.

What is Digg?
