- gozroth, on 03/29/2009, -3/+61***** the RIAA!
- MtnXfreerider, on 03/29/2009, -2/+44Now if only every other ISP would do the same, we would have a problem solved. The RIAA wont sue an ISP if the others do the same, They would likely lose anyway, I would think AT&T makes more money than the RIAA would ever dream of. This levels the playing field.
- nik707, on 03/29/2009, -0/+25You won't ever see Comcast say this.
- DrHoliday, on 03/29/2009, -0/+23what weight?
This isn't some dinky million subscriber company. AT&T is one of the largest and most powerful corporations on the planet. - ousthouse, on 03/29/2009, -3/+23Why would an ISP want to lose customers based on the RIAA's word?
- mbtria, on 03/29/2009, -0/+16Every crazy idea that the RIAA has just polarizes more and more people who don't download illegally. I won't buy anything directly from an RIAA or MPAA company. Haven't since before 2000. If I can't buy it from an independent who doesn't belong to the RIAA or MPAA, then I buy it used, or do without. I won't infringe, but I won't do anything to support these thugs, especially not buying their wares.
- AshamedAmerican, on 03/29/2009, -0/+16Once. You, however, went full retard with it.
- vsujohn2, on 03/29/2009, -0/+15Castrate the RIAA
- gumballer, on 03/29/2009, -0/+14Terminate the RIAA!
- AlanFang, on 03/29/2009, -1/+11This is true for most ISPs see, http://torrentfreak.com/riaa-mpaa-copyright-warnin ...
- drifter, on 03/29/2009, -0/+9We are suppose to praise AT&T for this? This is something a company should do automatically. You can speak of it, but don't praise them.
Also do you really think they are doing this because they hate the RIAA? It's because they don't want to lose customers, especially since the carrier market is fairly small as far as big name carriers goes. - bob1029, on 03/29/2009, -1/+8This is why I switched to AT&T from Comcast. Sure, I don't have 12-16mbps "PowerBoost", but it is more reliable than a mule, and I don't get a single nastygram about downloading anything. With Comcast we would get them all the time about bandwidth usage, downloading some ***** program or album, etc.
Also, number of times I've had to call about service problems:
Comcast - >2 times per week
AT&T - Once
The one time I called AT&T for the problem was because they had reset the bandwidth tier to a lower class and fixed it in a matter of 5 minutes. Also, we were credited for half a month of service.
I could write a 7 book series about my craptastic experiences with comcast. - inactive, on 03/29/2009, -0/+6Maybe AT&T finally realized that no one would buy high speed internet just for web surfing. People have high speed to download shared files. Terminating people just pisses people off and causes them to switch to another company's high speed service.
- bannor78, on 03/29/2009, -0/+6I don't get it. A company, that is not your customer, tells to harrass with phone calls/email and eventuall,y disconnect your service from your customer ... and you do? ... on their say so?
Could we please stop granting government like authority to non-governement companies. - ksgant, on 03/29/2009, -0/+6Um...you do realize the article is that AT&T isn't cooperating with the RIAA and won't be terminating service unless via a court order...which the RIAA would have to file and blah blah blah.
Bottom line, AT&T isn't terminating anyone's service. So why the indignation to them over this? Or will this be one of those "oh, the original poster was being sarcastic" or "he was only kidding" lame backpedaling attempts? - Ne007, on 03/29/2009, -0/+5Since when did AT&T start listening to the "courts"?
- Martillo, on 03/29/2009, -0/+5Or hear them write it.
- Edfrommars, on 03/29/2009, -1/+5Pirates are a very small percentage of ISPs' customers, however, they use a very large portion of the network's bandwidth. Getting rid of the small group that uses the most bandwidth would be helpful to the ISPs because they can spend less money on upgrading their network.
This is bad, however, because while the Telecoms decide to skip on upgrading their networks, the US falls farther and farther behind other countries in broadband advancement.
I'm glad that AT&T has decided to take a more passive role and think about its customers, especially after the NSA spying incident. - inactive, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4never thought I say this about at&t but amen
- bannor78, on 03/29/2009, -1/+5the Riaa uses the threat of lawsuite to get companies to do what they say
- BrokenVisage, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4Don't Feed the RIAA!
- rahsut, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4yea att is worth almost 200B dollars, they could easily buy all the record labels if they wanted to. they also have a huge lobby in washington.
- yetAnotherCroc, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4Unless you are in sweden where a huge portion of the population has engaged in piracy. Cutting them of would be death to the ISP's. Besides, we have real competition so if people catch wind that one ISP is cutting of customers that ISP will find themselves without a customer base inside of two months.
- sexybobo, on 03/29/2009, -0/+3AT&T knows doing this will make money while all the cable providers are putting in caps and every thing else at&t is remaining neutral which makes every one switch to them which gives them the monopoly they so desperately want. If they cave in they will loose that and i seriously doubt at&t will jeopardize a chance for a monopoly.
- defektiv, on 03/29/2009, -0/+2Like they never spied on us, right? Right guys?
- yourweblife, on 03/29/2009, -0/+2Sorry to say that most ISP do like this
- antoniuk, on 03/29/2009, -0/+2The whole problem stems from these agencies spying on torrent trackers. If the developers of torrent mechanisms remove the ability to view IP addresses and add anonymity to them, it would help to obfuscate users
- Leezus, on 03/29/2009, -0/+2Defenestrate the RIAA!
- Depthfunction, on 03/29/2009, -0/+2Oh how the might have fallen!
There was a time when the mere mention of the acronym "RIAA" was enough to shut down websites and intimidate netizens. People quaked under threat of lawsuits and harassment.
But now, all they can [afford to?] manage is to send out letters to suspected file sharers reminding them that downloading is supposedly illegal -- a response that has as much power as the FBI warning at the start of a video or DVD.
The war is over; the filesharers have won! - miquonranger031, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1I'm sure that's great news for the 2 people that U-verse reaches.
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -1/+2uhhhh..you DO realize that most people don't pirate, don't you? So obviously a lot of people DO buy high speed internet just for web surfing.
- inactive, on 03/30/2009, -0/+11 of 2 reporting in
- LilJimmyNordin, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1Or smell them paint it.
- dirtyhipster, on 03/29/2009, -2/+3Sodomize the RIAA!
- BrokenVisage, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1Submitterwill never use a space after first word
- Yage2006, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1Don't worry about this. They tried that for a while in my country and abandoned it after a year.
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1not mine, i got my internet suspended for it
- LilJimmyNordin, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1NEVER go full retard.
- DonAlfred, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1It is the same people. duh.
- LilJimmyNordin, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1I EIGHT the sandbox!!
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -1/+1they don't need to sue AT&T to get a court order
- DonAlfred, on 03/29/2009, -0/+0When big corporations meet and have a conflict of interest - good things happen. Untill they have an agreement, then the customers gets butt-*****.
- Super6, on 03/29/2009, -1/+1Loves me some ATT U-verse, 18mbps down, woot!
- inactive, on 03/30/2009, -0/+0Assuming you have high speed internet, do you use it just for web surfing?
- mauigreen, on 03/29/2009, -6/+5once the RIAA gets it's dirty foot in the door, they'll sue & sue to get more control over ISP's. as a customer i'd lke to see AT&T show more scrutiny to the RIAA
- asgardshill, on 03/29/2009, -8/+3Perhaps not on RIAA's word. But how about the MPAA's?
- Wargala, on 03/29/2009, -7/+0Just watch...... I've been right about a ton of things that I've gotten dugg down for before (Obama's not going to keep campaign promises, Iraq war will turn around, etc.), so just sit back and watch.
