HOW DARE THEY FORGET THE BAND THAT I LIKE AND THEIR SONG THAT IS RIDICULOUSLY UPBEAT AND ABOUT DEATH? - discostu73, on 08/21/2008, -1/+31REM: "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It's_the_End_of_the_W ... - the42ndpotato, on 08/21/2008, -1/+29Don't Fear the Reaper deserves a mention - it certainly paints a rosy picture.
- stustyle, on 08/21/2008, -3/+25Third Eye Blind - Jumper
- UberNick, on 08/21/2008, -1/+23By Pearl Jam?! J. Frank Wilson, man, 40 years earlier. No other group besides Pearl Jam has covered it.
Everyone knows the words cause it's been saturating the oldies stations for the past 20 years. It's kind of a gross, over-the-top-song with clearly pronounced lyrics. I don't know how you missed them or how you could have thought the song was upbeat enough to make this list. - jimmyp, on 08/21/2008, -3/+23Dugg for The Smashing Pumpkins
- sindex, on 08/21/2008, -1/+21More importantly, Kiss ***** sucks.
- evaburrito, on 08/21/2008, -3/+21The end song of Life of Brian!
- Watley, on 08/21/2008, -3/+17What no "Birthday Dethday" by Dethklok.

- MarkDykeman, on 08/21/2008, -2/+13Was surprised by Detroit Rock City...
- Wakkyweed, on 08/21/2008, -3/+14How could they miss "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" by the Smiths? It has such a lovely and cheerful tune, and Morrisey sounds chipper, until he intones the uplifting refrain:
"And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure, the privilege is mine" - sharknip126, on 08/20/2008, -12/+22Funny list. Forgot to mention "Last Kiss" by Pearl Jam (among many others).
Anytime that song gets played, everyone in the room starts singing along rather enthusiastically even though it's one of the most depressing songs I've ever heard of when you read the lyrics. - RevAradia, on 08/21/2008, -2/+11Diggin' the whole lyrics to "Suicide is Painless". I knew that was the M*A*S*H* song but I'd never heard the lyrics. You GO!
- theImmodiumGuy, on 08/21/2008, -0/+7Christmas at Ground Zero - "Weird Al" Yankovic

- lovebane, on 08/21/2008, -2/+8WHEN I WAS....
woops. wrong site. - jaysonp, on 08/21/2008, -2/+8How could you forget "Gloomy Sunday", the Hungarian Suicide Song.
"There have been several urban legends regarding the song over the years, mostly involving it being allegedly connected with various numbers of suicides, and radio networks reacting by purportedly banning the song."
"It is also rumored the music played without lyrics will put the listener into a deep sleep and induce vivid dreams and nightmares. The nightmares usually consist of falling or flying sensations."

Youtube (Bjork Version): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCEJtUNe90A - frogeyes, on 08/21/2008, -1/+6Wtf? No "Look on the Bright Side of Life" by Python? No "Death is not the End" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds? ***** list!
- dafragsta, on 08/21/2008, -2/+7No Dead Man's Party, no People Who Died, no Digg.
- chaiwalla, on 08/21/2008, -0/+5First one I thought of too, but I would add "Cemetery Gates" by the Smiths as well. No one does mope pop like Morrisey.
- LynchBomb, on 08/21/2008, -1/+6I don't think "high beats per minute" is what he meant but "upbeat" man...
- Alias1431, on 08/21/2008, -3/+8Where are the Decemberists?
- br0ck, on 08/21/2008, -1/+6"how you could have thought the song was upbeat enough to make this list"
Huh?? The J. Frank Wilson version has a hilariously upbeat sound until you listen to the words!
Also, it's been covered by 8 or 9 bands: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_Kiss - rockrapdude, on 08/21/2008, -0/+5Another One Bites the Dust - Queen
- lejake, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4Flogging Molly: "If I Ever Leave This World Alive"
This song will be played at my funeral, I have already requested it. - BoneheadFarker, on 08/21/2008, -1/+5No "Suicide is painless". Incomplete....
- ventralnet, on 08/21/2008, -0/+499 red baloons

- sprNmgcHlmt, on 08/21/2008, -1/+5Your all wrong.
It's And When I Die by Blood, Sweat & Tears - iamnobody8614, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4Most of their songs seem to be about death.
- meets, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3Country Joe and the Fish... haven't heard that song in years.
- sharknip126, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3Thanks to br0ck for backing me up.
Yes, J.Frank Wilson wrote it, but Pearl Jam's is the most well-known as far as I've seen. There were lots of covers of it, as reference in the wikipedia article by br0ck. - Methusalah, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3You're right... definitely should have made the list.
- Bersy, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3Maybe they thought it needed more cowbell.
- gwaggy12, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3"Bad Moon Rising" by Credence Clearwater Revival. It's not so much about death, per se, but it is about the end of the world, and it's comically upbeat.
- runep, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3Not really very upbeat, though, is it?
- XxtraLarGe, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3"Having a Blast" by Green Day is particularly upbeat, and that's about blowing yourself up and taking out a lot of people with you.
- ator1, on 08/21/2008, -5/+8Girlfriend in a Coma.
- zall, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3Don't forget Blind Melon - Soup
- Mysrt, on 08/21/2008, -3/+6this list is horrible
- darthgoat, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3YOU
YOU
YOU

YOU - Depthfunction, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3Good call. Morrissey's "Everyday is like Sunday" comes to mind too.
- Liu-Kang, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2"We Will Become Silhouettes" by the Postal Service. Not only upbeat with haunting lyrics, but also based on a story by Ray Bradbury about the Nuclear Apocalypse.
- jasmar, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2Flaming Lips / Do you realize?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tRXO9Q8LkY - SpiraetSpera, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2Happy Phantom - Tori Amos
Wow, there really are no broads on Digg. - mgebers, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2Dugg for Smashing Pumpkins, but no Girlfriend in a coma? really?
- LoungeActx, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2I second that nomination. That's a pretty sick song if you listen to the lyrics.
- edwartica, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2Wonder if the Polyphonic spree ever did any songs about death.
