- MWrenn, on 01/02/2009, -2/+94Yeah, not sure I'm going to listen to MSNBC to find out what music I'm missing.
- Nosferotu, on 01/02/2009, -1/+67Only listening to non-commercial is just as bad as only listening to commercial. Listen to everything, then like what you like, without... you know... pre-judgment?
- cougar3429, on 01/02/2009, -1/+28Anyone making a "Top whatever" list has an ego problem, unless it's your Top Favorite. State your opinion that's fine, but to call your opinion the best is just egocentrical garbage. It's like saying:
Top 5 colors of ALL TIME!!!!
1. Cobalt
2. Candy Apple Red
3. Jet Black
4. Purple
5. Green
Can you prove your list? No? Then keep it to yourself. - protodon, on 01/02/2009, -3/+29Look at everyone dropping band names like " Where's Obscure Band #124" Like that is the ultimate band. Get over yourselves!
- amoro99, on 01/02/2009, -1/+26What is this "radio" thing they are referring to? Is that like Pandora?
- theratdotus, on 01/02/2009, -0/+22wheres riskay "smell yo dick"?
- cadmiumpaint, on 01/02/2009, -2/+23so what you're saying is, you're an incredibly close minded, elitist snob.
- Chooxo, on 01/02/2009, -1/+21Kate Nash was all over the radio in 2008*. I freakin' hate her and her mockney accent.
*in the UK - eastwood24, on 01/02/2009, -4/+22Kate Nash is pretty cool. I also would include Los Campensinos and Wolf Parade.
- inactive, on 01/02/2009, -3/+20"5 average songs I didn't hear on the radio, and will likely never hear again"
- Nosferotu, on 01/02/2009, -2/+18"Included are songs by The Kelly Affair, Supergrass, Al Green, Kate Nash and more. You can watch all the video here and vote too."
Wait... this is top 5, and that's 4 artists. The "more" is one artist? - inactive, on 01/02/2009, -1/+14Dugg for Supergrass, alright.
Surprisingly European picks too (as in all artists are popular in europe) - JellyFish62, on 01/02/2009, -1/+14I listen to good music, commercial or not. Sadly good music is getting rare on the radio.
- birch25, on 01/02/2009, -1/+12thank you god! i hate it when people say they're thinking for themselves because they only listen to indie music. major label music is not bad by default. sure, Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Hercules and Love Affair, Los Campesinos and TV on the Radio put out great records in 08, but so did Coldplay, Lil Wayne, Kanye West and Death Cab for Cutie.
just listen to what you like regardless of what type record label they are on or how much radio play they get. - wmute, on 01/02/2009, -0/+11There's been a lot of great things that have been "commercial". Ignoring stuff that's on the radio, whether it's one genre or another, is just as bad. Like Nosferotu says, listen to everything... biases hurt a chance at proper judgement. How else would you balance whether one song is better than another?
- edicius, on 01/02/2009, -0/+10I didn't hear it on the radio in '08.
- mmeads, on 01/02/2009, -0/+9dig for kylie. (she's still smokin')
- Bologner, on 01/02/2009, -0/+9How about any song off of Sigur Ros' new album?
- ZincSaucier, on 01/02/2009, -0/+8I am very surprised those weren't on the radio. They were just as mediocre as everything on there
- WhoDoneIt, on 01/02/2009, -0/+8Arguing about what is good music and what is bad is just stupid. It's one persons opinion and nothing more. I listened to all of his "top choices" and personally didn't listen past the first 2 minutes of each song. While I appreciate most styles of music and will give everything a chance, none of what was presented to me intrigued me to listen any more.
That's not to say I don't appreciate these artists, I just didn't get hooked with these songs. There will be many times that I dislike a "single" from an artist to love other pieces from the same album.
But what's more important than all of this is not whether I like or dislike it, but whether you enjoyed it. Music is an art form and just be thankful that not all of us like the same stuff. It should all be appreciated for what it is. - danj484, on 01/03/2009, -0/+7I only listen to bands that don't exist yet.
- borez, on 01/02/2009, -0/+7Every Day I Love You Less and Less - Kaiser Chiefs was played to death on British Radio.
- TVarmy, on 01/02/2009, -1/+8My band's dad is better than your band's dad.
- porkdanish, on 01/02/2009, -0/+7Indier than thou.
- 2of8, on 01/02/2009, -0/+7There is a general tendency in society to present your own opinions as mass-accepted facts.
- bagboyrebel, on 01/02/2009, -0/+6If you haven't heard of Obscure Band #124 then you're not really a nonconformist.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -0/+6dude I'm so anti
- jimminy, on 01/02/2009, -2/+8Death metal is better.
- Barbarino, on 01/02/2009, -1/+7None of them are very good...
- oldcrows40, on 01/02/2009, -0/+6Its Yesterday dumbass.
- cran, on 01/02/2009, -0/+6We didn't hear these songs because there's nothing special about them.
The world is full of middle-of-the-road musicians trying to sound like other popular musicians ... which is fine, because sometimes a certain sound is good and you can dig it for awhile. But after a certain point, it's beating a dead horse.
Kate Nash is imitating The Cranberries and The Kelly Affair is imitating Avril Lavigne. Supergrass sounds like they're still trying to get a band together in their garage. Al Green is a living remnant of the Motown sound ... but "Lay It Down" does not stand out among literally truckloads of good Motown. - dfwlinuxguy, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5Ok....I was ready to digg this story...until I actually listened to the songs....sorry......there is a reason these songs didn't go anywhere...THEY SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess unless you are comparing them to the latest Britney Spears release. I guess I would rather hear any of these instead of Womanizer....maybe.....I don't know. What the hell is wrong with you people?
- number11, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5Diamond Ho Haa men was a fantastic Supergrass album but i think its pretty late in their career to break America, i think only mtv2 and radio 1 bother with them in the uk
- petebot, on 01/02/2009, -1/+6Jay Reatard is awesome.
- cleric04, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5I've heard all of this on the radio, including all of the stuff in comments. Sigur Ros' new album, really it didn't get enough play are you kidding me? Maybe you should retitle this "5 Songs You Didn't Hear on a Clear Channel Station"
- ewarner, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5Haha, couldn't believe my eyes and ears when I first watched that video.
- MrChunks, on 01/02/2009, -1/+6Your definition of bad music isn't a very good one. Some of the best music produced consists solely of incredibly simple melodies that doesn't take oodles of musical skill to produce. And some more complex and technically skillful music is terrible.
- Lancer383, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5WFNX up in Boston plays The Gaslight Anthem all the time - great independent radio station if you've never heard them - also wouldn't have heard Fleet Foxes if it weren't for them:

- Neiby, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5You also said it has a lot of liberal and Arab propaganda, which just makes you seem unintelligent.
