- staticdisaster, on 07/13/2009, -0/+5O_O! It's a surprise to see anything relating to 60s garage rock on digg. It was the last time local rock bands ruled the radio charts and even some had a shot nationwide and scored a hit ("96 Tears" made it to #1).
The bands listed on the page are just the tip of the iceberg. All of the Back From The Grave compilations, the first 10 Pebbles volumes, and the first two Nuggets box sets are killer and essential. - boxoctosis, on 07/13/2009, -0/+5Roky Erikson, #1 on the list, is still around. After struggling with health issues for years, he's actually turning up on the festival circuit, and gigs around his hometown, Austin, pretty regularly. Got to see him there a few years back, great great show.
- kplo, on 07/13/2009, -0/+5All the Moving Sidewalks lacked was a badass beard on Billy Gibbons
- palmer, on 07/13/2009, -0/+4Who's "onestley"?
- palmer, on 07/13/2009, -0/+4It's '60s, not 60's.
apostrophe + S = possessive
With a two-digit year, the apostrophe comes before the numbers, to take the place of the missing "19". - Fleagleman, on 07/13/2009, -0/+3Awesome list. Almost thought 13th Floor Elevators wasn't on there, but there they were at the top, where they belong.
Maybe add The Shaggs, but other than that, good list. - 8FoldPath, on 07/14/2009, -0/+3Now things like THIS is why I come here...
- michaelarana, on 07/13/2009, -0/+2just picked up the 13th Floor Elevators boxset - Sign Of The 3 Eyed Man, sound frigging great...
- seinfeld42, on 07/13/2009, -0/+2Didn't Ray Davis from The Kinks invent garage rock with 'You Really Got me'? Great raw riff played by Dave Davis using a razor-blade slashed amp. Genius!
- capandjudy, on 07/13/2009, -0/+2What? No Music Machine? --- remember "Talk Talk"?
- RighteousKungFu, on 07/13/2009, -0/+2Dugg for 96 Tears
- asgardshill, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2Interesting list but no Bloodrock ("D.O.A."). A huge hit in the mid to late 60s, but their only hit IIRC.
- slugpellet63, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2Sad that Sky has gone the same way as Lux.........it's been a bad year so far.
What a weak list, though. some of these band's link to garage is tenuous at best and what in the hell has any of them got to do with Sky's passing?
Just in case anyone is wondering what real garage sounds like try this for size

- laazrakit, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1Well, the list had the Count Five on it.... Psychotic Reaction is a terrific tune.
- dumptaker, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1The Originals?
The New Originals?
The Thamesmen?
What a lousy list. - onlyseano, on 07/14/2009, -0/+113th Floor Elevators...!
- syntaxgs, on 07/14/2009, -1/+2it a word that mean you Tell The Truth
- roycifer, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1i love lists
- BownHam, on 07/25/2009, -0/+1Alot of these bands appear on the nuggets compilation album.
- bedake, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1Question Mark just played in my city, I went with a couple people to go see him and found out the cover was 15$. I totally would of forked it over but the people I went with didn't have the cash. I doubt I'll ever have the chance to see him perform again )=
- tkeela625, on 07/14/2009, -0/+0Moby Grape - "Hey Grandma"
The Electric Prunes - "I had too much to dream last night" - THELEECH, on 07/14/2009, -0/+0I like seeing the 13th Floor Elevators up there, but this list is useless without the Velvet Underground. The Velvets changed rock with music that was unheard of at the time, and even now. Lou Reed and John Cale are two of the most talented people alive, that's not to say that the other members were not talented.
- seinfeld42, on 07/14/2009, -0/+0talking about wild & crazy out of control mayhem - The Who's 'My Generation' was influenced by it! If I listen to 'You Really Got Me' followed by 'My Generation' on my ipod, then I have to go and sit down and have a glass of water to attempt to recover from the excitment! lol
- blackmoth, on 07/13/2009, -0/+0What about The Creation?....or is it just Creation?
- staticdisaster, on 07/14/2009, -0/+0The riff was genius and copied a thousand times (even by the Kinks themselves), but the guitar break is one of those defining rock 'n roll moments that's hard to explain .. it was wild & crazy out of control mayhem for 15-30 glorious seconds that still blow minds today.
- darthsand, on 07/13/2009, -4/+2LOL at "the blues magoos"
- syntaxgs, on 07/13/2009, -8/+2onestley none of this are good as metallica
