- WarMachineWCLH, on 06/30/2009, -4/+38Isn't it a little early to declare the most overlooked of a year you're only half way through?
- TomGfromCanada, on 06/30/2009, -3/+25meh, you like what you like.
- Schralpy, on 06/30/2009, -6/+26eMusic sucks.
- nepidae, on 06/30/2009, -9/+28forget whether something is "hipster" or not and do what you enjoy.
- Hraes, on 06/30/2009, -1/+13I think laserpilot's point was that the "hipster nonsense" is the music on the list that isn't good, interesting, or enjoyable in any way, but instead geared to appeal to hipsters.
- laserpilot, on 06/30/2009, -4/+15some alright finds..some hipster nonsense, although possibly a little better than the hipster nonsense thats super popular
here we go magic is probably my favorite off the list, sin fang bous has its moments too, and love language is decent..i see some others i haven't heard of yet and i'm a college music director who gets 40 new cds a week..theres sooo much music out there - Trooperof3, on 06/30/2009, -4/+15Am I the only one that can't stand that Indie Rock Garbage. Also the idiots that say The Fray go under the "rock" category
- stonebone4, on 06/30/2009, -1/+11The only things eMusic are overlooking are their (ex-) customers.
- Baronvontito1, on 06/30/2009, -4/+14I haven't heard a lot of really good music out of 2009. While I'm not a fan of Indie Rock, I've found myself enjoying Here We Go Magic from time to time. The only album I really love out of 2009 so far is Mastodon's "Crack The Skye". That album gets my highest recommendation, go check it out.
- writeman, on 06/30/2009, -3/+12Based on what I listened to, they're overlooked for good reason.
- krakow056, on 06/30/2009, -3/+11Wow... never seen so many wannabe artsy covers in a single page before.
- mywhitenoise, on 06/30/2009, -1/+8not when it says "so far this year".
- Kojangie, on 06/30/2009, -0/+7I've never heard of any of these bands.
- steger, on 06/30/2009, -0/+7Personally I fell that the Doves' "Kingdom of Rust" album is greatly overlooked in the US.
- twinklyJesus, on 06/30/2009, -7/+14Hmmmmm, i own the marketing rights to a bunch of crap music made by losers in their parent's basement. How could I scam a bunch of morons into buying it? I know, I'll float a hokey website calling them "underrated" and abunch of goobers will fall all over themselves to buy it so they can be cool!
- inactive, on 06/30/2009, -15/+22Awful music.
- krakow056, on 06/30/2009, -1/+8Actually, is basic Radihead and NIN.
And an occasional white knight defending rap. - feignNU, on 06/30/2009, -0/+7"But the point stands, most of this indie stuff does suck."
"I never had a point, chill out."
Huh. That's odd, cause I interpret that sentence as meaning two things, 1.) that you do in fact have a point, and 2.) that your point is "most of this indie stuff does suck."
The really amazing thing to me is that in the act of failing to make *your* point, you succeeded quite admirably in making *mine* -- namely that most of the people who comment on these music lists have no idea what they're talking about. - feignNU, on 06/30/2009, -0/+6No, sorry, you haven't made your point.
You're aware that this list includes sections of electronica, hip hop, world music, and jazz in addition to the section devoted to lo-fi and indie rock, right? - Coffeedemon, on 06/30/2009, -0/+5You think they like Metallica here? Profess any like for them at all and you get buried 100 thumbs deep. All over some crap that happened 10+ years ago.
- ssquared22, on 06/30/2009, -2/+7Great list, I have both Sin Fang Bous, Here We Go Magic and the Veils and couldn't think of three records I would recommend more highly to my friends.
- feignNU, on 06/30/2009, -2/+7Whenever I want to feel a little worse about the world, I just look for a music list submission and read the comments.
I would like for any of the people who said something like, "this is indie-hipster crap that we haven't heard of for a reason" to give me YOUR top 10 list for the year. *****, top 5 would be fine. - lepetitmousse, on 06/30/2009, -2/+7said like a true hipster
- Hraes, on 06/30/2009, -0/+5both = 2
- Hraes, on 06/30/2009, -1/+5I can't believe you're being dugg up for this *****.
- PowderedToasty, on 06/30/2009, -1/+5I always thought music taste was an extremely personal thing so lists like these are kind of silly.
- feignNU, on 06/30/2009, -0/+4not exactly "overlooked", but definitely good *****.
- zip000, on 06/30/2009, -1/+5A whole lot of hype over that one actually.
I enjoy the album, but I have to say - as tacky and cliche as it is to say it - I liked their earlier stuff better. Sung Tongs just makes me happy whenever I listen to it. - reaper527, on 06/30/2009, -0/+4you're about to be disappointed
- relaxeder, on 06/30/2009, -3/+7Jesus Christ, the only one I know on that list is Julianna Barwick. I'm not indie enough.
You know what's really good though, is the new Mars Volta album. - Gm7Cadd9, on 06/30/2009, -2/+6do you guys have the new boogerstash? distortion taco?
but in all seriousness: The Decmeberists, The Hazards of Love - coheedcollapse, on 06/30/2009, -3/+7I don't think he cares whether it's hipster or not, I think he's just saying that hipsters generally listen to ***** music.
You could replace hipster with "teeny bopper" and I'm sure you wouldn't disagree, right? - manbearpig1, on 06/30/2009, -3/+7Animal Collective - merriweather post pavilion
- lepetitmousse, on 06/30/2009, -13/+16As soon as i read "avante-pop" i closed it. There's a reason why these albums are overlooked, its because they are obscure indie-hipster bands.
- arthursk, on 06/30/2009, -0/+3Oh my FSM they all look exactly the same, the majority of today's hipster designer are all parrots
- fungusmonkey, on 06/30/2009, -1/+4White Denim rocketh.
- stonebone4, on 06/30/2009, -0/+3The new Isis is great too if you haven't heard it.
- versualize, on 06/30/2009, -0/+3The Hazards of Love wasn't exactly overlooked. But I love the album so I dug you up anyways.
- robinthehood, on 06/30/2009, -0/+3I'm on the fence on this album. Gave it a listen through.... It's good... Is it great though? Dunno. Time will tell.
- inactive, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2better than iTunes
- pegothejerk, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2meh. I just recounted the writing process because the writer said She wasn't sure whether or not to believe that the lyrics were actually from Finns memoirs and the like, and I am particularly fond of his writing for that very reason. I didn't even listen to their music until the week they were leaving Oklahoma City (they had a show and went on their way to tour some more). The entire band is full of genuinely interesting and awesome individuals. They know how to rock, party, hold intelligent conversations, and be generally good people and this impressed me. I know rock stars because I have toured myself and met quite a few on the road. This band is an anomaly in their ability to be very well rounded and extremely talented. Not a common occurrence, which is why a lot of bands burn out. Well, that and ***** each other into hatred.
anyway.. it probably sounds hollow because I'm not a writer. I'm just an artist and digger with loaded opinions. - Greyscale88, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2Go find the definition of "Overlooked"
- inactive, on 06/30/2009, -2/+4This list needs to be overlooked.
- BetterThanYou, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2The Rx Bandits are coming out with a new album July 14th. Great band and awesome guitarists.
check em out: http://rxmusic.bandcamp.com/album/and-the-battle-b ... - AmusedToDeath, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2But you can get 25 mp3s you'd never actually pay for free!
/s - omarlassan, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2TPB here i come
- Baronvontito1, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2Dream Theater's new album is actually really awesome. And Protest The Hero is pure quality. I liked Fortress more than Kezia.
- Stuntaneous, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2here we go magic ftw.
