- conversekid, on 01/03/2009, -0/+24Textbook hipster response there. How unique.
- sevenslashfour, on 01/03/2009, -0/+20Yeah. They're the sheep.
Yeah. - slayermet420, on 01/03/2009, -0/+17I disagree.
- harronoob, on 01/03/2009, -0/+14Related by keyword definitely needs some work here...
- conversekid, on 01/03/2009, -0/+13As long as AutoTune dies, I'm all for anything that the UK throws at me.
- lepetitmousse, on 01/03/2009, -0/+12this comment is too precious to bury. It should be saved for a museum of pretentiousness.
- lowtolerance, on 01/03/2009, -0/+7because the band leader always has a secret setlist for those wishing to smoke him out...
- strudey, on 01/03/2009, -0/+6...broke up 3 years ago.
- wumps, on 01/03/2009, -0/+6Chefs are the tastemakers.
People in the music industry should be called punchtakers. - divinediva, on 01/02/2009, -1/+7VV Brown a sensational singer.
- baralo, on 01/03/2009, -1/+6Stick it to The Man, man!
- TheDrinkNinja, on 01/03/2009, -2/+7Now and then, though, the British press really gets it right. Klaxons, Arctic Monkeys, Muse, these are some really phenomenal bands that just got ignored in America the first time out.
- Depthfunction, on 01/03/2009, -3/+7Everything is "brilliant" in the UK. It's like the only adjective they know. Well, that and "bloody." I guess if you're "bloody brilliant" then you're the greatest thing ever.
- scottblystone, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3This article would be much better if it had links to some samples.
- buddyw, on 01/03/2009, -7/+10I like MGMT
- fugazied, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3Man Les savy fav rock. Their quirkiness reminds me of canadian punk band 'no means no' somethings.
- chasemassey, on 01/03/2009, -1/+4Combichrist!
- hakluytbean, on 01/04/2009, -0/+3Well it's commercialized popular culture, by definition it's for sheep.
- OMGRussellCrowe, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3Citrus got a pretty good amount of press, including a positive review from Pitchfork. I'm pretty sure the hipsters have already been into this band.
- Samohtneas, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3Probably none of these.
- TheGrammarNazi, on 01/03/2009, -1/+4Is anyone else insulted by the presumptive nature of this article? "Step right up, sheep! Here are the new bands which, we just know, you'll gobble right up!"
- itsmikey, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3Kings of Leon are from Nashville and got tons of publicity in the US...?
- monkeymad2, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3Is this where smug Diggers tell us about how uneducated the unwashed masses are and how much better their own personal taste in Music is (even though if you ask them, they don't listen to Music. But they clicked and commented on a thread about a Music Thing they hate anyway)?
- ileftfark, on 01/02/2009, -3/+5Why is everyone who would be considered 'above average' in the US 'simply brilliant' in the UK?
- mickhead, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2What could you possibly have against autotune? It removes that old pesky need for talent.
- emilychap, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2www.hypem.com
- BrokenVisage, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Oh Reginald...
- bdbr, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2Ra Ra Riot (no "the") just released an album 4 months ago. It'd be expecting a lot for them to release a really hot album in 2009.
- IIIIrvin, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2VV Brown wants to be Janelle Monae.
It'll be an interesting year with albums from them both. - Mudcrutch, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2This is the year for Mutemath to hit.. even though they have already had some good publicity from doing the new Transformers theme and a song from the Twilight movie, they have not gotten very big... yet...
- xParker, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Passion Pit. mark my words.
- rsbryswrrl, on 01/04/2009, -0/+1Oh how I hate indie music. What exactly is "independent" about having a bunch of slogs on the internet tell you which bands to like? I'll discover new music the old-fashioned way, going to shows and listening to Pandora.
- bekindin09, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1never heard of any of these groups, but it's okay to feel old, gotta stick with the classics
- fugazied, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1I hate how they use recent bands to describe the sound of other bands. Eg. 'Band X has a funky MGMT vibe'. That was from a music journalist, they should have a larger breadth of musical knowledge than last summer. Reference what it really sounds like, 1970s funk, pfunk, zappa etc.
- Dukewintermaul, on 01/04/2009, -0/+1ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH
- gramophone, on 01/03/2009, -1/+2Maybe because people in the US and UK like different things?
- thelastcivilian, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1I don't know about enormous - there's been enough gloomy pop music in recent years (Interpol) that it's not really all that unique - but they're certainly being marketed better than similar artists (Editors).
- Bawk, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1I dig you slayer because I'm sick of ***** on the internet telling me who to listen to.
- fugazied, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1I find that if you 'really' listen to interpol, particularly their last album it's not gloomy at all. Most of the songs are love songs, or have lyrics about how strong his passion/devotion is. Quite a few pop hooks in it too. I think they would be one of my favourite bands of the last few years.
- fugazied, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1Dunno, the clone wars related link could be referring to some of the pop bands.
- itsmikey, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1Charles Hamilton
B.o.B.
Blu - SteeleyDan, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1Just listened to a bunch of Little Comets songs and they are quite fun, good happy driving music.
- NorrisOBE, on 01/04/2009, -0/+1Dude, ***** Klaxons. You should have replaced the Klaxons with Hot Chip :)
- Cheesasaurus, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1One of the members is in MSTRKRFT now, look them up if you liked DFA. It's a more electronic sound but it's still good stuff.
- emilychap, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1loooooove passion pit. can't wait to see them play at sxsw
- kslodic, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1Sebastien Grainger (the other member of Death from Above 1979) went solo and is on Saddle Creek Records. His album sounds similar to DFA as well. It is one of my favorite albums of 2008.
- lowtolerance, on 01/04/2009, -0/+1everyone listens to music.
- slayerab, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1Or at least punchmakers
- sadchild, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1one day as a lion will explode in 2009.
