- theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Rush snubbed again.
Bastards. - b_flats, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15I'm not an REM fan, but I love how Mike Stipe disses Van Halen by NOT talking about them! "Obviously, we're really honored ... and the thought of ourselves and Patti Smith and Grandmaster Flash all being there, it's going to be a very exciting night," Stipe told MTV News.
Dugg for the quote, and Grandmaster Flash being inducted, too. REAL hip-hop. - Mearn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11@ RoadDoggFL
You say that like its a bad thing - onwardknave, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13The R&R Hall of Fame is a joke. Rock and Roll was about going against the Establishment. Now the R&R Hall IS the establishment. Not to mention the fact that it inducts non-rock musicians to bolster its sales. Screw them.
- Petrarch1603, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8yeah, i heard Rush is eligible for the Rock and Roll hall of fame but they have not been inducted, that blows
- actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9@ westoncampbell
Dugg down simply for using "FTW". - flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6better not be hagar, Roth better be the lead man.
- 0siris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7They are amazing, or rather Ian Anderson is amazing. Thick as a brick, a Passion Play, To Old to Rock to Young to Die, ect. All great album/songs. They receive a ton or radio play on classic rock stations too. Flute or no Flute, they are a rock band as much as Pink Floyd was with their synthesizers.
- halfamazing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Dugg for GMF and F5
- nagaisu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The Ice Cream Man cometh.
- Mikecol, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Dugg for R.E.M.
- lulutv, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Man, that's too long for Van Halen to wait."
They had to give us time to forget/forgive the Van Hagar years. - appetite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Mark Knopfler is a better guitarist than Eddie Van Halen, too.
- RoadDoggFL, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Still no Kiss...
- clink0914, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4White Lines is a classic...
- guitarmaniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Van Halen is getting back together, eddie and alex, wolfgang(eddie's son) on bass, and david lee roth back on vocals
- 2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's like a jungle sometimes. It makes me wonder how I keep from going under.
- markdr123, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Ninjas - You, sir, are wrong.
- ronfez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Now they need to just need to move the ceremony to Cleveland, you know, where the HOF actually is.
- nagaisu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Ditto.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hard to believe anyone still gives a ***** about the R&R Hall of Fame. I mean, these are the same tools who inducted KC And The Sunshine
Band. R&R HOF ceased to be about ROCK AND ROLL 3 days after they opened. - easthollow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4No Alice Cooper? Think about that - no Alice Cooper in the Hall of Fame. How wrong is that?
- fauxXenophanes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3How do you squeeze every bit of life and spontaneity out of a street-level musical genre ? Create a museum so you can hang dusty records on lifeless wall ! I couldn't be more opposed to this high-minded *****.
- Johnny87, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6It's good to see VH make it in. But what about Rush and Kiss?
- joel8x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2When was Hip Hop not considered Rock 'N Roll? R 'N R came from the blues, and Hip Hop is just another branch on that family tree. Hip Hop is raw, angst ridden, energetic music. If you consider Metal to be rock, then why not Hip Hop?
- sleepandtvgood, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Grandmaster Flash FTW!!!
(Ooh White Lines) Vision dreams of passion
(Blowin’ through my mind) and all the while I think of you
(High fry) a very strange reaction
(For us to unwind) the more I see, the more I do
(Something like a phenomenon) Baby!
(Tellin your body to come along, but white lines blow away)
(Blow! Rock it! Blow!)
Thats one of the best scenes from Shaun of The Dead! - glenathon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wonder who'll Van Halen will have on stage as their lead singer when they do the big jam with all the other inductees.
- jasimo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Amen on The Stooges. They should have been a slam-dunk no-brainer inductee their first year of eligibility.
- strcmp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2EVH is pretty good, but calling him the greatest guitarist ever is a bit of a stretch. For that you have to look at Clapton, Hendrix, Page, Jeff Beck, etc...
- DTJunkie07, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4From my exaggerated point of view: The day Tool and Dream Theater make it into the hall of fame will be a great day for humanity.
- vkiperman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I was going to ask about Roth. But now I'm thinking "Yeah, what about Rush???" [theblooms]
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Absolutely. Jethro Tull is completely overlooked all the time because they aren't the same knuckle-dragging, caveman-ROKK all the Clear-Channel stooges are used to hearing. When in actuality they wrote some of the heaviest, most progressive songs in the history of Rock. Cross-Eyed Mary is quite possibly the heaviest song ever written. And they managed to do it with a flute!
- Alfyx, on 11/07/2008, -0/+2Speaking of real hip hop, Afrika Bambaataa is eligible for induction next year. A stipulation is that groups or individuals are only qualified for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Planet Rock & Looking for the Perfect Beat both came out in '82, though I'm doubtful he will even be considered.
- theguy23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inductees_of_the_Rock_and_Roll_Hall_of_Fame
The only prog act they've ever inducted is Pink Floyd. No Tull, no Rush, no King Crimson. No Yes! And really no chance for any of 'em.
Whereas Blondie got in last year. - rbtopp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2JUMP!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I like Van Halen, not Van Hagar.
- joel8x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1RoadDoggFL - if you let KISS in, you have to let in The Monkeys, The Partridge Family, and The Brady Bunch.
- Derelict267, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Van Halen deserves to have been in the hall of fame years ago.
- DTJunkie07, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks bro. You really struck a nerve calling them cheesy then recomending some of the worst ***** in music today as we know it as replacement. I should punch you in the face for that if I ever saw you in person. Oh wait your probably one of those ugly goth, noone likes me and i have no friends so ill wear all black and take drugs type of people....so id probably run in fear of being capped.....from the machine gun you carry in your trenchcoat......go die and make the world a better place. Cheesy.....your the ***** epitomy of cheesy. Damn Im pissed...you ***** emo/goths!!!!!!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ditto^2
- joel8x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I actually liked some of the Haggar stuff. I was pretty young and into music when that stuff was out and I remember totally digging the song Cabo Wabo.
- joel8x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As long as Roth doesn't speak, did you hear that disaster of a talk radio show he tried to do?
- LLXerxes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I guess Badfinger will never make it in. Not even Pete Ham. That sucks.
- nadcraker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No 3 Inches of Blood? That's just bullcrap.
- FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3R.E.M. in the rock and roll hall of fame......... It truely is the "end of the world as we know it".
- Grishnackh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dugg for the Shaun of the Dead reference!
- actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Please tell me that's sarcasm.
- scagnetti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agreed. I went there a couple of years after it opened and was shocked at how commercialized it was. It cost $25 just to walk in the door.
On another note, I just tried going to the HOF site to get current admission rates and got this instead. Why am I not surprised they're purveyors of malware?
http://www.google.com/interstitial?url=http://www.rockhall.com/ - motionblur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gary Cherone will give them the award. ;-)
Seriously though, with Roth in the band prepping for a tour, bets are on that it will be him. It would make sense for Sammy to join them though. - scagnetti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, those rumors have been making the rounds for a couple of years now. Hopefully, the HOF induction will make it happen.
