- MicControl, on 06/24/2009, -6/+607It's tough to put a price on a life but I guess with this logic if it's $80,000 for a 99 cent song then it's $24,000 for what? A 30 cent life? that's ridiculous
- feenstrovski, on 06/24/2009, -3/+418People don't matter. Money is the most important thing of course.
- OptionalPirate, on 06/25/2009, -3/+360I owe the RIAA $64,160,000.
- commenter01, on 06/24/2009, -0/+349so 50 cent's life is worth 20 cent more than mine.
- vectoor, on 06/25/2009, -0/+300Not more? I probably owe the RIAA the GDP of a small country by now.

- angel.wardriver, on 06/24/2009, -2/+196That's twisted
- zonisgod, on 06/24/2009, -6/+190I'd kill your relatives for less.
But I'll sell you my pirated music for more. - teemingvoid, on 06/25/2009, -0/+179according to http://tinyurl.com/nwump2 it costs 16 cents a day to feed a school kid in Kenya per day, so that means 1 song is equivalent to feeding 500,000 kids in Kenya for a day. For all 24 songs she has to pay for, the MPAA could feed nearly all of Kenya's children for a day (there are approximately 16.02 million according to CIA factbook). Something about feeding an entire country's child population for a total playlist that barely fills up a standard formatted CD does not seem right.
- droogieca, on 06/24/2009, -3/+182That's what happens when big business' run the world. They set their own terms.
- BigGooseX, on 06/25/2009, -1/+177I owe them ~$240,000,000. I guess i have to kill 10,000 people to pay them back.
- rjc5056, on 06/25/2009, -1/+165Count your blessings, man. I owe them $1.2 billion apparently.
- mejf2loy, on 06/25/2009, -2/+143***** THE RIAA!!!
- TobiasParker, on 06/25/2009, -0/+137Well he was shot 9 times, so i mean that has to make the trade-in depreciate.
- xerigen, on 06/25/2009, -4/+127$80,000 per download. Stop and think about that. Absolutely ridiculous
- Donotsurf, on 06/25/2009, -0/+118I owe them about 5000 dead relatives, yeah that's right, it's the new currency from now on.
- inactive, on 06/24/2009, -10/+101What the deuce? <ʘ-ʘ>
- rchargel, on 06/25/2009, -0/+80The RIAA has authorized me to collect all debt to be paid to them. Please send your check or money order to a friend I have in Nigeria (he's a diplomat and/or dictator). At least he says he's my friend :-(
- stancar200, on 06/25/2009, -0/+80you stopped pirating music?
- ureshiidesuka, on 06/25/2009, -4/+81well that puts it in perspective...
so now we have an equation to pay for our illegally downloaded music: Y = (10/3)X
Y = number of people you have to kill
X = number of songs you have illegally downloaded. - TheBifman, on 06/24/2009, -10/+79Here's to all the idiots that will post in this topic while having no understanding of what "advance" means
- inactive, on 06/25/2009, -1/+66What a pointless process. It's kinda like the reverse lottery.
Chances of getting caught/fined are pretty much slim to none, but when you do, it's some insane amount.
And I have a hard time believing anyone who's been told to pay these outrageous fines have actually done so, or have had their lives remotely altered. I mean, go up to an average person, "You owe me $200,000 now!" - yeah right.
What do they do? File bankruptcy? If you still afford all your other loans just fine, then doesn't the bankruptcy just say, "I can't afford this, so GTFO" to whoever is trying to collect? - Avaseal, on 06/25/2009, -2/+67does it have something to do with the version of the album that i just downloaded illegally?
- Urine, on 06/25/2009, -5/+63$1,928,000,000 or 584242424.25 Relatives...
Niiiiiiiiiiiiice - robbob, on 06/24/2009, -2/+56that puts it into perspective.
if I was convicted the RIAA can kill me, my family, and my dog = 3.3
the moreand more I downloaded, the RIAA could effectively solve our worldwide over-population problem
this will be their "green initiative" - danielsamuels, on 06/25/2009, -0/+50THE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THE

Presumably qualming a families tragedy: $24,000
Finding out that murder may actually be a more profitable way to go: Priceless - skidork, on 06/24/2009, -2/+47This is too true. Since when is intellectual property worth more than human life?

This article is a fail. - feenstrovski, on 06/25/2009, -0/+43$886,400,000 and counting...
- paranoid614, on 06/24/2009, -14/+55yahoo news? gross.
- nepidae, on 06/25/2009, -0/+40Ok, and what about decent people compared to all music?
- ATL, on 06/25/2009, -8/+47dugg for this: <ʘ-ʘ>
- Raptor007, on 06/25/2009, -2/+39The government sentenced her because of the tragically-high influence of big business lobbying and "donations" in our government. This is not limited to any particular party, but true of our representative democracy in general. If you think it's "the people" they're representing, then sadly, you're mistaken. :¬(
Also, ***** THE RIAA!! - yocouchdigga, on 06/25/2009, -0/+35absolutely unbelievably ***** obscene is an understatement.
- Macintoshreader, on 06/25/2009, -0/+35I owe them $84,000,000.
- X0rn, on 06/25/2009, -2/+32If the author had at least paid a little attention, he had noticed the word "advance" in the sentence: "Air france to give $24,000 ADVANCE to familieas of crash victims"
- kutcher506, on 06/25/2009, -0/+29$400,000,000 roughly. You'll have to pry it from my cold, dead fingers RIAA!
- TriplePlay2425, on 06/25/2009, -1/+29I'm at $98,720,000. I need to keep going, I gotta hit that billion dollar mark!
I'll wait until my 'net gets upgraded this week. - ryrocker, on 06/25/2009, -0/+27"hey... how much for the stereo?"
"uh, a dead uncle"
"i cant afford that... i only have two dead cousins and an aborted fetus =/" - SpeedSteamBoat, on 06/25/2009, -0/+26That's not really fair. Decent people are much more difficult to produce than decent music, and ***** music is possibly just as easy to create as a ***** person.
- Hnnnnnghhh, on 06/25/2009, -1/+27Note to self: Encode entire collection as a single .mp3 "download"
- shrewduser, on 06/25/2009, -0/+25airliners have a limited liability for killing people.
i wish i had a limited liability for downloading stuff. - rchargel, on 06/25/2009, -0/+25Not really. You have to pay a lawyer and go to bankruptcy court, where a payment schedule is negotiated, and the debt is reassessed. In the mean time, your credit is ruined. It becomes difficult to work at many companies where either money or company/government secrets are on the line (good luck getting or keeping a security clearance with bad credit). It's hard to get a loan for things like a car, home, school, etc. It pretty much sucks.
- dankosaur, on 06/24/2009, -1/+25With this kind of math, I could hand in a lot of assignments late... 1 downloaded song = 3.5x my grandma died
- ecoop3r, on 06/25/2009, -0/+24Maybe if Kenya put out a couple good albums that we could pirate this wouldn't be a problem. No in all seriousness you are absolutely correct and its ***** that this happens but we do have the power to change it...
- emotecontrol, on 06/25/2009, -0/+24@CanadaMan87: If you're going to put "Canada" in your name, please do not be an idiot. It makes Canadians look bad. Thank you for your cooperation.
