- thebeginning, on 06/02/2009, -0/+55No Victor Wooten, really?
Him with his brother for reference:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vdJvHE8qxA&fea ... - rhythmchanges, on 06/03/2009, -1/+22Should read 10 best ROCK bassists maybe... otherwise, it is a travesty and I'm pretty sure most of the guys on there would agree with me.
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -1/+1310.) Flea (RHCP)
9.) Les Claypool (Primus)
8.) John Myung (Dream Theater)
7.) Geddy Lee (Rush)
6.) Steve Harris (Iron Maiden)
5.) Steve DiGiorgio (Death, Sadus, Testament and many more)
4.) Stu Hamm (Various projects including work with Vai, Satriani, and Eric Johnson)
3.) Billy Sheehan (Various projects including Steve Vai, Mr. Big and many more)
2.) Christopher Wolstenholme (Muse)
1.) Justin Chancellor (Tool) - dlm85, on 06/03/2009, -2/+12No Jaco?
- fungke, on 06/03/2009, -3/+13Being a bass player I'd say that's a pretty narrow minded list. I would of at least expected to have seen Mark King, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller or Jaco Pastorius listed.
However, I'd say this guy is pretty good...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hV58amI1vLU - minimitable, on 06/02/2009, -0/+9That was my first thought. He is absolutely phenomenal.
- tommasz, on 06/03/2009, -2/+10Buried, the list has nothing that explains the rationale behind the picks and they seemed to concentrate on only single genre.
- Rev0lver, on 06/03/2009, -3/+10No cliff burton? Sacrilege.
- fungke, on 06/03/2009, -0/+7Fair enough but you didn't need to make an insulting comment though, did you?
- thebeginning, on 06/02/2009, -0/+6Ah, gotcha. Thanks for the reply!
- Manchildcartoon, on 06/03/2009, -2/+8As a bassist this list makes me so ***** happy.
Finally a list that isn't like one of the Rolling Stone Guitar player lists.
You know just naming superstars
For ***** sake they once said Gene Simmons was one of the best bassists.
Still though great ***** list.
Would a added Dave Ellefson as an honorable mention though. - nullpass, on 06/03/2009, -2/+8The list includes Tool AND the song they use is "Forty Six & 2"; I don't care who else is on the list- this is an automatic dig.
- slicksoul999, on 06/02/2009, -5/+10Pretty solid list right here
- tightscrummy, on 06/03/2009, -0/+5Gene Simmons is the king of the open E string man.
- itc518, on 06/02/2009, -0/+5He is amazing and I did have him in here originally but wanted get one more metal guy so I put DiGiorgio in. Wooten is among the best for sure though.
- LETHARGICpirate, on 06/03/2009, -0/+4Don't even joke about something like that
- sandersdamnit, on 06/03/2009, -1/+5Bootsy ***** Collins
- Coven, on 06/03/2009, -1/+5I came here to make that comment as well. No Victor no Digg!
- satterfield, on 06/03/2009, -0/+4Jaco isn't dead. He's hangin with TuPac.
- brownsound00, on 06/03/2009, -0/+4Agreed. This has to be one of the best lists I've ever seen. I've never seen Dream theater on a list, or Tool
- elgourmet, on 06/03/2009, -1/+5Justin Chancellor - excellent choice!
- PsychoPNut, on 06/03/2009, -1/+4only one person said cliff burton wasn't on there... shame on you people.
also... look at the guys post above me... crazy huh? - gabeN, on 06/03/2009, -0/+3Gotta put my two cents in for Juan Nelson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2_f2YhSCOg
- rhythmchanges, on 06/03/2009, -0/+3They have one thing that lots of the peeps you listed don't: a pulse.
(read the description and you'll see it says "currently playing.") - brownsound00, on 06/03/2009, -0/+3I'd say prog and alt rock. Which is a perfect list for digg, and me. :)
- stegro, on 06/03/2009, -1/+4Mike Watt
- NovaPrime9, on 06/03/2009, -0/+3Cliff's dead. The list is for currently-playing musicians.
- ileftfark, on 06/03/2009, -1/+4Surprisingly good choices on this one. I'd like to nominate Kim Deal, though. Not really the most technical, but her bassline melodies steal the show more often than not, and many times *are* the song, unintentionally.
- Manchildcartoon, on 06/03/2009, -0/+3Hey It's Bootsy baby!
- webadelic, on 06/03/2009, -1/+3agreed
- NovaPrime9, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2Lemmy is a cool *****. But one of the best PLAYERS in the world? No.
- EllimistX, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2Dugg for Les Claypool
- dangerousLEH, on 06/03/2009, -1/+3It's nice to see a list that includes Steve DiGiorgio on it. It seems like most top ten lists overlook him just 'cause he plays metal. His work with Control Denied was amazing.
- satterfield, on 06/03/2009, -1/+3There is always going to be someone that isn't on a list. Always some style that gets overlooked or some person that rubs readers the wrong way. I can say the list comprises of some pretty talented bassists. I do think Victor Wooten should get a nod, I don't care for his style, but man can he play. When he plays Amazing Grace and you realize that he plays two notes in the same fret, you start to understand.
$0.02 - I have always admired Steve Lack's work on the first Veruca Salt album, simply amazing, but not a top ten career for this list. :) - DouglasQ, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2Dugg for Steve Harris
- CardHockman, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2i'm friending you
- itc518, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2I detest Kiss period, the most overrated band ever. I wanted to include more extreme metal guys since that is what I am into the most but i tried to mix it up.
- dangerousLEH, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2Bootsy Collins for playing skill AND showmanship!
http://www.cultistshop.com/cult/wp-content/uploads ... - shellshocklxbox, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2Flea at 10?!?!?! GTFO
- yellowsnowcone, on 06/03/2009, -1/+3Primus sucks. They should be higher on the list.
- bbrigg1, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2No (bassist's name)?
Blasphemy - inactive, on 06/03/2009, -1/+3LIST FAIL ALERT: Slap/ Poppin' White Guys.
Check out:
Squarepusher (Tom Jenkinson)
Victor Wooten - Allivian, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2I stopped agreeing with your list when I got to Steve Harris and just about keeled over when I saw that Muse and Tool were on their.
It'd be more appropriate to say 10 of the best bassists in popular culture; not in the world. (Far from it)
No offense by any means.
Why isn't Steve bailey on there? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJ6x6zsbP1Y
2 of the best metal bassists; their awesomeness combined could make up for the rest of the 7
Stephan Fimmers (Necrophagist) & Arif Mirabdolbaghi (Protest the Hero) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypCdGNe3Bvs - dieboldcracy, on 06/03/2009, -1/+3uhhhhhhhhhhhhh Tony Levin anyone?
HEY! Let's just name 10 famous bass players (sans Muse guy) - angelschambers, on 06/03/2009, -3/+5Welcome to Digg. I see you're new here.
Don't mess with NiN, Muse, Radiohead, or Q Lazarus while you visit and we can avoid those negative diggs in the future. - brownsound00, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2I really like jamming to those, and Aenima. (slash, how the hell do you pronouce that song... i say animea for some reason, does any one know the right way to say it?)
- foucaultsvac, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2Dugg for DiGiorogogogio
- syxxness, on 06/03/2009, -0/+210 of the,, not 10 best.
No Wooten
No Dave Larue
No Tony Levin... - dgrimez, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2I love how musical "best of" lists always include someone from Tool. There's a reason they have so many rabid fans (I being one of them).
- brownsound00, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2I've never really listened to Muse... but that riff was just dirty
