- ehalasey, on 08/04/2008, -3/+66This person is posting a "things you don't know" list, but doesn't know that George Martin was the Beatles' producer?
Weaksauce. - Cajole55, on 08/04/2008, -9/+53wow, that really sucked.
- drunkjack, on 08/04/2008, -3/+38Buried for obvious inaccuracies and errors.
- MoralThreat, on 08/04/2008, -0/+33"If Bill and Mandy had remained married, Stephen would have been his father’s father-in-law and his own grandpa."
I think I brained my damage trying to figure that out. - mudfly, on 08/04/2008, -1/+27I really hate the term "Classic Rock", when the music was released it wasn't considered as such, so why call it that just because its old? This is a term coined by Clear Channel or some other douche bag in the industry, no doubt. If you asked Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, or any other (Yardbirds) guitarist, they would not say, "Yeah I play classic rock".
***** that term. - ahoy, on 08/04/2008, -2/+2410 things i didn't know about classic rock by someone who doesn't know who george martin is? buried.
EDIT: ehalasey beat me to it, sorries. - joeware, on 08/04/2008, -7/+25I don't believe that #6 is correct when it says that the Beatles were recording Abbey Road when Pink Floyd was recording DSOTM, as Abbey Road was recorded in 1969, and presumably DSOTM was recorded in 1972 or 1973, because it came out in 1973.
- bigtunashrute, on 08/04/2008, -0/+17Neil Young is Canadian, I don't think the northern portions of the United States is allowed to claim him as their own.
- pentrant, on 08/04/2008, -0/+15McCartney was recording Red Rose Speedway, not Abbey Road, when they got him to contribute some spoken word recordings that wound up going unused.
- krystofr, on 08/04/2008, -4/+19If you read Digg.com backwards, you'll hear "Paul is dead" --- spooky!
- aserer511, on 08/04/2008, -0/+147. At age 47, the Rolling Stones’ bassist, Bill Wyman, began a relationship with 13-year old Mandy Smith, with her mother’s blessing. Six years later, they were married, but the marriage only lasted a year. Not long after, Bill’s 30-year-old son Stephen married Mandy’s mother, age 46. That made Stephen a stepfather to his former stepmother. If Bill and Mandy had remained married, Stephen would have been his father’s father-in-law and his own grandpa.

f - mywhitenoise, on 08/04/2008, -1/+14I knew a good third of that list.
Number 7 is just ***** up. - username7410, on 08/04/2008, -1/+12"Martin’s (their manager?)"
Their Manager?! That would be George Martin, their producer. What ***** idiot wrote this? - thefightgeek, on 08/04/2008, -5/+15I can't stop reading useless facts about musicians (from any genre) . . .what's up with that? I'm like a frickin' Pavlovian dog!
- mywhitenoise, on 08/04/2008, -2/+11yeah seriously, he was considered the fifth member of the band.
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -0/+9If you watch the documentary on the Dark Side of the Moon, they talk about doing this, and mention the bit about Paul McCartney. You can find it here, on the second site in the list http://nitesmoke.wordpress.com/best-sites-to-watch ...
Also if you're interested that site has some cool information about the Wizard of Oz/Dark side of the Moon connections. http://nitesmoke.wordpress.com/ has the explanations, and http://nitesmoke.wordpress.com/page/2/ has the movie and album synced so you can watch it online. - donkz, on 08/04/2008, -1/+10I guess I'm the only one who finds a plan of becoming his own stepgrandpa amazing.
- mywhitenoise, on 08/04/2008, -0/+9"I buried Paul".
- mywhitenoise, on 08/04/2008, -0/+8Yes he was, you ***** moron. Watch or read any Beatles documentary.
I just pulled this up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Martin
Read the very first paragraph. - BrainTanned, on 08/04/2008, -0/+8If ummagumma is slang for sex, then were the several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict in fact having some kind of weird orgy?
- stevieraveon, on 08/04/2008, -2/+9What a waste of a possibly good list. Check out songmeanings.net or songfacts.com to see some random trivia of songs
1 and 2) I can think of tons of more interesting little known facts about the Beatles and Hendrix.
4) Who didn't know Tony Iommi is missing his tips of his fingers (surprised they didn't mention Jerry Garcia http://bp1.blogger.com/_dFX81X2PSIk/RrovhTo47eI/AA ... )
10) It's a little known fact that "Lynard Skynard" is not spelled that way. - borez, on 08/04/2008, -0/+710. Ummagumma (a Pink Floyd album) is a British slang term for sex.
Wrong, Ummagumma was a term for sex used only by the band and their friends in Cambridge, it's not a generic term within England. - twishart, on 08/04/2008, -1/+87. At age 47, the Rolling Stones’ bassist, Bill Wyman, began a relationship with 13-year old Mandy Smith, with her mother’s blessing. Wait, what? - ummagummas08, on 08/04/2008, -0/+6ummagumma actually means rock and roll. I've never heard of the 'slang for sex' thing.

Reading news in peace - warsongs7, on 08/04/2008, -0/+5He was ummagammaing with 100 women.
- mugwumpz, on 08/04/2008, -0/+5Not really that interesting, and obviously written by someone who doesn't speak English or know how to spell/punctuate. I often wonder why someone who is looking to connect with the English-speaking world doesn't pay some reasonably-literate native English speaker $5-10 to proof it for him.
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -0/+5except "rock and roll" is actually slang for sex in a car, because thats what happens to the car when you have sex in it, it "rocks and rolls." Some DJ in the early 50's started calling it that saying this is music you can "rock and roll" you car to.
- SyrusBass, on 08/04/2008, -0/+5lol is it sad that that i actually knew a few of those?
and i'm pretty sure every hardcore beatles fan knew #1 :D - carolinaws, on 08/04/2008, -0/+5Here's one:
During the recording of “The Dark Side Of The Moon”, the guys from Pink Floyd wrote on little papers questions like “Are you afraid of death?” and gave them to everybody that was working at Abbey Road studio at the time. This included all the roadies, sound technicians, the Irish doorman, and even Paul McCartney (who was recording “Abbey Road” with the Fab Four on the same studio). The answers to the questions were recorded, and the best ones were put on the disc. However, Paul’s answers weren’t put on the disc because “he tried to be funny”.
Abbey Road recorded: 22 February 1969 – 20 August 1969 at Abbey Road Studios, Olympic Studios, and Trident Studios
Dark Side of the Moon recorded: June 1972 – January 1973 at Abbey Road Studios in London, England
McCartney may have been interviewed but he was not recording the album Abbey Road as the two albums were recorded 3 years apart. - inactive, on 08/04/2008, -0/+5McCartneys were not used. And the Beatles had long gone their separate ways by the time DSOTM was being recorded.
- QuorumCall, on 08/05/2008, -0/+5I stopped reading after that since it was fairly obvious the author wasn't into research.
That would be like putting "...and Ringo (drummer?)." - sinurgy, on 08/04/2008, -0/+5Apparently all you need is a mothers consent to bang a 13yr old? Dude should be a registered sex offender!
- tomarocco, on 08/04/2008, -1/+6Buried for Slash.
- mywhitenoise, on 08/04/2008, -0/+4Yeah really. I saw some Stone Roses, Faith No More, and Pavement videos on VH1 Classic... I was like "Holy *****! late 80's/90's alternative bands are 'classic'?" Pretty stupid term for any era of music.
- diemunkiesdie, on 08/04/2008, -1/+5Not obvious to me! Fill us in would you? I don't know much about these bands (though I have heard songs by everyone they mention) because I wasn't alive in their era.
- Gee1004, on 08/04/2008, -4/+8# 11 Better than the garbage today
- magneteye, on 08/04/2008, -0/+4@ ehalasey
It's actually supposedly in response to BOTH Southern Man and Alamaba by Neil Young.
"Well, I heard Mister Young sing about her
Well, I heard ole Neil put her down.
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
a southern man don't need him around anyhow." - Stupidtourist, on 08/05/2008, -1/+5Buried for the author not knowing who George Martin is.
- mywhitenoise, on 08/04/2008, -0/+4Yeah, but it wasn't during the Abbey Road Sessions. The Beatles were done by 1970, Dark Side was made in the mid 70's.
- siphre, on 08/04/2008, -2/+5Facts, whatchu talkin' about willis? I love the lack of citations
- mudfly, on 08/04/2008, -0/+3God that makes me feel old, and I'm only 31....
Death to the corporate music industry! - stevieraveon, on 08/04/2008, -0/+3I'm a huge Beatles fanatic too. You ever see the tape of Lennon and Dylan in the back of the cab all messed up? What's your take on it? I always thought Lennon was being a dick to Dylan.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8OkqwY0tvc
George Harrison FTW - ZiggyPlayedG, on 08/05/2008, -1/+4Bog, I hate pretentious people who think that criticizing something popular or good will make them look cool. We get it, you're like, "anti-establishment", you go against the tide, but please, shut up.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 08/11/2008, -0/+3Buried because any mention of the hacktard "Slash" means this is not a list about great rock musicians. And this mentions him twice for crying out loud.
- iDiggIt42, on 08/04/2008, -0/+3Cranberry sauce
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -0/+3and Piper at the Gates of Dawn was the one where Pink Floyd was recording in the room next-door (Beatles were working on Sgt Peppers).
- CptBuck, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3The literal debate over who was the "fifth beatle" focus on former members of the band who may claim to have influenced it. That's the literal arguement. George Martin gets called the fifth beatle because he produced all of their records and his classical music training allowed the band to develop a more sophisticated sound. His contributions to the beatles are immeasurable.
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -0/+2Lennon was a dick. His own ***** kid preferred Paul before him. And Yoko Ono pretty much ends this conversation.
- iDiggIt42, on 08/04/2008, -0/+2At that time, McCartney would've been recording Red Rose Speedway, most of which was recorded at Olympic Studios. I think they only did some final mixing at Abbey Road.
