- DeanRed, on 10/01/2008, -5/+31Buried for no mention of Will Smtih....
- brsteve88, on 09/30/2008, -3/+27Eminem was playing himself in 8-mile. Not really that hard a role, you'd think.
- rawg, on 09/29/2008, -6/+29Good list but they missed Mark Wahlberg's performances in either Departed or Boogie Nights.
- dezweber, on 09/29/2008, -1/+21Sting in Dune!
- SRSco, on 09/30/2008, -1/+16David Bowie and his codpiece in Labyrinth.
- inactive, on 09/29/2008, -1/+10Definitely a solid list. I agree with everyone's additions. I gotta say though. Yoakam in Slingblade is a great call. Man was he a hateable character in that.
- PatrickFlorida, on 10/01/2008, -1/+9Elvis Presley, The King, starred in 31 motion pictures. I think he deserves a nod.
- Nildayan, on 10/01/2008, -0/+8I thought Jared Leto was amazing in "Requiem for a Dream" and decent in "Lord of War".
- kitsua, on 10/01/2008, -2/+10They were all, without exception, *****.
- revenz, on 10/01/2008, -1/+9good point, he's probably the best music star actor there is
- johnnick, on 09/29/2008, -2/+9How can you leave out Mic Jagger's tour de farce in "Freejack"?
- morgrar, on 10/01/2008, -1/+8Andre 3000 in Semi-Pro, but more importantly, Four Brothers.
Mos Def was awesome in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and the Italian Job too. - ncapone, on 10/01/2008, -2/+8Dugg for David Bowie, the only one with real musical talent.
- babaganush, on 10/01/2008, -2/+8That list was pretty terrible because it lacked the unforgettable performances of Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson in "From Justin to Kelly"
- crazyman, on 10/01/2008, -1/+7The entire list should have just been David Bowie in Labyrinth.
- RodgerE1, on 10/01/2008, -0/+6How could they forget
Jerry Reed - Smokey and the Bandit 1,2,3 - Burrito, on 10/01/2008, -0/+5Also Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
- DaFunk, on 10/01/2008, -0/+5I was thinking the same thing. I mean...it really wasn't that big of a role, and he wasn't all that great, but come on...it's Sting in Dune!
- squishee, on 10/01/2008, -0/+5Dugg for not having Jennifer Hudson on the list. I can't believe that overrated cow won an Oscar for her role in Dreamgirls. Any black actress who can belt out a tune could have starred in it and done just as well or even better.
- kitsua, on 10/01/2008, -0/+5Tom Waits in anything!
- dafragsta, on 10/01/2008, -1/+6Not to mention Three Kings which has two rappers and one director of rap videos (and a couple of really ***** good movies) supporting George Clooney and EVERYONE was great in their roles.
- 0260, on 10/01/2008, -0/+5Bowie made an already cool movie even cooler. Mos Def was pretty good in 16 blocks too
- jmgoody311, on 10/01/2008, -0/+5What about Jack White in Cold Mountain? I thought he was damn good, even though he had a pretty minor role. They used his musical chops quite nicely as well.
- inactive, on 09/30/2008, -2/+7Wow I didn't even realize that was Bowie in The Prestige!
- CerMakAlot, on 09/30/2008, -2/+6As a comment on the article states, Bjork's performance in Dancer In the Dark is real good. I'm not a Bjork fan, but damn that movie made me sad as hell. It should have got a mention.
- stillasleep00, on 09/30/2008, -1/+5Tom Waits in Wristcutters was pretty awesome
- twertyto, on 09/29/2008, -5/+9I wasn't expecting much from that list most of those were VERY good performances. Ice Cube, Mos Def and David Bowie are the highlights of that list. The only questionable one is Eminem. At times it seemed that he was trying a bit too hard.
- nategoyer, on 10/01/2008, -2/+6Buried for failing to mention Bjork in "Dancer in the Dark"....
- megapeg, on 10/01/2008, -0/+4He was an actor well before he was a mediocre musician, though.
- subversive1, on 10/01/2008, -0/+4Jon Bon Jovi getting his blown off in U-571...not so much for the acting, but just for that scene =P
- kolyana, on 10/01/2008, -3/+7No Will Smith in Ali? It's a good list, but it could have easily been longer.
- sunnycuts, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3vanilla ice in Cool as Ice...word to your mother
- LupeFiasco, on 10/01/2008, -2/+5I thought Ludacris was good in Crash for a first timer. He didn't play a huge role, but he was very memorable.
- adrenaline33, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3I think the reason that they only mentioned him for the movie that they did was because at that point he was actually just a musician. By the time he acted in those other ones you mentioned, he was known more as an actor.
- megapeg, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3Sorry, but Dwight Yoakam is undeniably brilliant. You don't have to love his style, but you really ought to respect his talent.
- PatrickFlorida, on 09/30/2008, -1/+4How can you forget Jeff Healy? His performance in "Road House" as a sightless musician was amazing.
- philwalsh, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3Mos Def was actually an actor before he focused on hip-hop so it's no real surprise to see him on that list.
- ericthegreat, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3I had no idea that was Bowie in the Prestige and I've seen that movie 3 or 4 times
- aliendisaster, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3Can't remember where I read it but Mos Def has said that he started in the entertainment business to become an actor and just kind of fell into music (or something to that effect).
- machocheese34, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3Go Ninja! Go Ninja! Go!
- Monotonousblob, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2Don't forget his role in Fight Club, getting the ***** beaten out of him by Ed Norton :D
- fribhey, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2David Bowie as Andy Warhol in Basquiat isn't on the list but should be #1
- Jeffrsmall, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2Two that stick out:
Bette Midler in "The Rose" and Greg Allman as "Gaines" in "Rush". - Burrito, on 10/01/2008, -1/+3Name a good one.
- thelostemperor, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2Number 1, without a doubt, should be:
Dexter Gordon in 'Round Midnight. - troytime, on 10/01/2008, -0/+28 mile was a horrible movie.
- LucFerris, on 10/01/2008, -1/+3At first, I buried this comment. "Where do you get off saying that Marky Mark is an awful actor," I thought. "I've seen all his movies and I love those movies, even Planet of the Apes!" Then, I got to thinking, I love those movies, but not necessarily because of him. Turns out, Mark Wahlberg's bad acting was the least memorable part of these films. Even his performance in Fear, which I recently saw for the first time, was so much of that same old frigid performance of his, that I just thought that was his way. The only thing they could get him to do right in the Departed was spout out obscenity's and shoot people. . .hell, I coulda done that. So I'm sad to say that I dugg this comment cuz it turns out that after really giving it some thought, Marky Mark sucks in front of the camera
- kitsua, on 10/01/2008, -1/+3Thanks dude, that's similar to how it was with me too.
The first thing I saw him in was Boogie Nights when it came out and it was, frankly, awesome. Loved every last bit of it.
Then, Three Kings. Great movie. But then, as time went on, I saw him in more movies and just started noticing how his performances were all the same, how I didn't believe them, how he seems to have nothing behind his eyes as his roles just kind of play themselves out predictably.
I think it was The Departed, where everyone else just pretty much shone, that I realised how mediocre he was as an actor and how all the previous roles I'd seen were just as mediocre. Throw a movie like The Happening into that mix, with him in the lead role, and you end up at the very definite negative opinion that I posted above.
I realised that I ran the risk of getting buried when I slated a popular celebrity but sometimes you gotta just stand up and say what you see - and it seems as clear as day to me now that Mark Wahlberg is a ***** actor. - swik, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2Good job for including Justin Timberlake in Alpha Dog. It's completely surprising, but he actually was fantastic. The scene where they're watching TV and he knows they are planning to kill the kid and is trying to convince him to leave without revealing too much is him just nailing it the entire time. I'm not a JT fan but he really caught me off guard by actually being able to act in the movie.
Also nice for spotting Mos Def in that HBO movie, but leaving Mark Wahlberg off is just wrong. Though at this point I guess he's just an actor. -
