- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is there anything more annoying with today's television than having your show or movie constantly interrupted by those ***** ads on the bottom of the screen, filled with flashy animation and even loud, goddamn sound effects? No, there is nothing more annoying than that. Long commercial breaks I can live with. Interrupt my favorite show with your ***** animation, and I'm less inclined to watch your goddamn penny-pinching channel.
It wouldn't be that bad if it was just a tiny little text ticker on the bottom. But these ***** actually BLOCK OUT at least 15% of your screen, making you miss sometimes important things that are in the show or movie. And, since they're flashing and have people jumping around and cover a portion of the screen with all sorts of colorful crap, your eye is instinctively distracted.
The worst offenders: TNT, USA, TBS, Bravo, E!, and SpikeTV.
Have fun wasting all your cash on the movie rights, I ain't watching them under these conditions. - serpentor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ok confirmed that G4TV's Trek rights are non-exclusive, they just can't air them at the same time as Spike. That means those of you with digicable will soon have twice as much Trek on per day.
- FunHeadlines, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh, good, now we can watch Star Wars movies with lots of interruptions for inane Spike TV programming...repeated endlessly.
- dknighton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I'm a Trekky, but dugg because this sounds interesting."
FYI, you're not a "Trekkie" unless you know how to spell it. - 40-Dan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OK, everyone who wants to watch these movies in NTSC (and possibly cropped to 4:3) raise their hands. Anyone? Anyone? I guarantee that 90%+ of the people in this demographic already own DVD's of these movies. Many may even own several different laserdisc versions of the original trilogy.
If Spike were to broadcast them in HD, I'd probably watch, otherwise, I'll stick to my disks. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm a Trekky, but dugg because this sounds interesting.

Yeah, you are probably right, but I know that personally that doesn't stop me from watching a favorite movie if it's on TV. Or maybe just putting it on in the background, you know? I'm sure they'll still get a lot of viewers. - TigerClaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Another thing, Surely the versions that they will air will be the special editions that are on DVDs.
- jacobrich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Spike TV is second only to Sci Fi in my book.
- serpentor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In similar news, G4TV just bought the airing rights to the Star Trek TV shows. I'm not sure if they're exclusive rights tho, I hope not as I don't get digi cable and prefer that Trek stay on Spike.
- godmode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For a moment there i thought it meant the rights for the Star Wars TV show.
- TigerClaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, For a sec, I thought it was for the TV Show, But oh well, But the fact they managed to get both of the trilogies, Could be a good thing for them, Since Spike TV's demographic is around the Star Wars fan base, Much like they did when they managed to get rights to air all the episodes of Star Trek: Next Generation to cater to the Star Trek fans out there.
- gothicgeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0where did you find the news about Trek on G4TV?
- FriedGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't stand TV anymore. I got a DVR a few months ago and when I feel like watching one of the handful of shows It's set to record I watch it, FF over commercials, then get back to my life. If my wife didn't watch I'd drop cable all together. The TV is a monitor for my DVDs anymore. I don't even watch the local news anymore.
- iChuckles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This ain't the biggest. Fox ponied up 85 mil for the TV right of Jurassic Park 2 before the movie even came out. Spielberg was happy because that covered the cost of production.
- drjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"FYI, you're not a "Trekkie" unless you know how to spell it."
DAMN!! you been SERVED! Geek style! Now you have to commit ritual suicide with your faux Klingon dagger.
But oh yeah.. dumb channel buys mediocre movies for too much money. Film at 11. - revoltor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hooray for commercials.
- Kindred420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Im glad they bought them.
our TV show is on Spike, and hopefully we will still be there in 2008.. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"In similar news, G4TV just bought the airing rights to the Star Trek TV shows. I hope it's not Star Trek original, I love watching Shatner and Nimoy on SciFi. - Meshyf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yay star wars with comcerials I don't care
- jmccorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great, but sad. No high definition!
- jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, April 2008 is a long wait.
- maguirer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just great. I get enough V.I.P. in Canada as it is...
- TigerClaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For the Star Wars TV Show, It would only be fair if it's broadcast on a network like Fox or something, I mean, It would suck if it was broadcast on some cable that many of us don't receive due to our cable subscription, I still have analogue cable service from Comcast, I can't get digital cable cause the parents don't want it, And analogue cable is a lot cheaper anyways.
- hawks5999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah, TigerClaw, life is unfair. But if this is as unfair as you've experienced, you are in for a world of surprise when you move out of the parent's nest and have to provide for yourself. My suggestion, don't let "it would only be fair..." come out of your mouth again or you will severely patronized and/or laughed at.
- lordsandwich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Given the timing I suspect they bought the rights to broadcast in HDTV. It'd be dumb of them not to.
- fugitivALiEN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope spike is in hidef in 2008 =/...
- DigiRaven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0uhhh why?
- TigerClaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder how a Star Was TV show will work, Will each episode have an opening crawl of some sort?
- Kindred420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0with the Star Wars TV series coming around 2007/08,i think it may end up worth the cost. Hopefully George will get some others to help the shows.
- ultimate_ed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You know, 25 years ago before everyone even had a VCR and there were only three channels to watch, a deal like this probably made sense and a big movie would be a big draw for the networks.
Now, as has been said, we've already got the DVD's for these movies, or could rent them whenever we want. Someone who's too poor to have a DVD player and can only watch it on broadcast TV is probably not the demographic you want to be spending $65mill for programming on. - Dan005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No, bad! I liked watching them in HD on fox, now I get crappy SDTV resolution. BOOO!
- TimmyK., on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why are movie rights for TV so important anymore? Anybody who cares at all about seeing these movies will most likely already have them on DVD. When TNT was advertising The Matrix so much I was baffled. they were going to show it three times in a row. Did anyone actually watch it on TNT? Spike is a joke anyway, and they will most likely cover up a third of the screen with an ad that says they are showing the movie again after it ends.
Also if Lucas is such a control freak over Star Wars that he won't release the original versions of the films then why does he release pan and scan DVD's, and why doesn't he demand that the films only ever be shown in widescreen? What he doesn't want people to watch the movie as it was when they first fell in love with it, but it's okay to watch it where you literally only are seeing half of the image? - jumjum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hate to be a hater, but I'd rather see Spike spend that much money to colorize the Three Stooges & retain permanent TV rights.
http://www.sonypictures.com/homevideo/catalog/catalogDetail_DVD043396051195.html looks amazing. - LoneStar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yay lets watch star wars for the 30000th time... i love star wars.. but i think everyone has seen it already so there's no point in wasting tens of millions of dollars on that
- TigerClaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0True, Who would watch Star Wars on TV, You don't even get Dolby Digital Surround on TVs yet.
- Phaedrus73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Funny but I have all the Star Wars movies on DVD, I get them in widescreen and without commercials. Doesnt seem like a real smart move to me. But then SpikeTv sucks.
- sparkmonkeyz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i hate you big corperation!!
- cadpo76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Star Wars TV show? That'll turn out well:
http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php?date=2005-04-27 - defylogik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol 2008. what a waste of money. only good programming spike has is the power block with my lust-slave danica patrick.
george lucas is doing something right. - slantyeyed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ha, like I really wanna watch Star Wars in pan 'n scan, edited down to fit in two hours (including commercials) with the scenes with a bikini-clad Carrie Fisher (in her prime) edited out because the religious right objects?
- kyle133, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Have a look at this...
http://www.milliondollarhero.com - SaintStryfe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0have to have something to replace the fact that without WWE, thier ratings have been slipping. UFC is fun a few times, Ultimate Fighter is cool and all... but losing a few million viewers for two hours a week will hurt any network.
- 703_KN33, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Star Wars is Overrated. Get over it.
