- smacksaw, on 04/11/2009, -2/+54I disagree with the hierarchy thing. Think about this weekend. It's Easter. The most POWERFUL zombie of all-time is about to have his ultimate power celebrated.
Happy Easter, Zombie Jesus. Lord and savoiur of the undead (and my sin-laden soul). - anubis2night, on 04/10/2009, -2/+34Zombies have been huge for a while now, btw best book for zombies zombie survival guide
- Ziggy7273, on 04/11/2009, -0/+19Great now there going to destroy the image of zombies like they did of vampires. Vampires used to be cool. Zombies are now going to hang out in "sexy" teenage packs making out with one another and doing it in the butt.
- webconnoisseur, on 04/11/2009, -1/+18Are you kidding? I think Time hast its trends in reverse. There's been tons of movies featuring Zombies this past decade. Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days, 28 Weeks, Grindhouse, Shaun of the Dead, I am Legend, Resident Evil... the list goes on.
- yocouchdigga, on 04/11/2009, -1/+18Leprechauns.
- AlJensen, on 04/11/2009, -2/+17Zombies are the new Vampires!? I never realized that Vampires were at some point cool, they always reflected dark Emo aggression and ***** eroticism to me. Then again I have not seen a good Vampire movie (Where the vampires don't imitate the traits i described)
- AndrewDB, on 04/11/2009, -0/+14Just as long as Stephanie Meyer doesn't get anywhere near zombies, we'll be okay.
- yocouchdigga, on 04/11/2009, -2/+14I especially liked the line "official monster of the recession". Vampires are timeless, sorry time.com, nice try though.
- thegamingguy, on 04/10/2009, -0/+10Dare I ask what is next?
- OutlawSundown, on 04/11/2009, -0/+8
Zombies are cool for the simple fact we want to slaughter them by the truckload. - sinisterD, on 04/11/2009, -0/+8GO TO HELL EDWARD!
- angel.wardriver, on 04/11/2009, -1/+8Agreed, vampires will never die. Unless staked through the heart. Zombies are great in games.
- Shawshanksr, on 04/11/2009, -9/+16f*** mr.babyman
- taylorr05, on 04/11/2009, -0/+7WTF. This article is written by someone who knows dick about pop culture trends. Zombies are the *****. Vampires suck. You can't be heroic or manly around vampires. No one shot a ***** vampire in the face while doing a wheelie with a bus. What about the film "White Zombie"? Or "I walked with a Zombie"? Don't ever compare zombies to vampires. Vampires are for tweens with sexually repressed angst and pseudo-rebellion. Zombies are for dudes who are awesome.
- oxymoron69, on 04/11/2009, -0/+7I bury you for mentioning faggy vampires or whatever the ***** that ***** is.
- armakaryk, on 04/11/2009, -1/+8i am legend is vampires.
- buzznjackal, on 04/11/2009, -0/+7WHAT!?!?!?!?! No mention of Left 4 Dead?!?!?! For shame!!!
- pardonmedoug, on 04/11/2009, -0/+6Clowns.
- Sajuukar, on 04/11/2009, -0/+6Agreed. Zombies are just too cool for- auuaahghghgh!!!!
...braaaaains! - ohplease, on 04/11/2009, -0/+6Next week's Time article: "The Internet. A big deal?"
- billricardi, on 04/11/2009, -0/+5Pffft! Best survival is at sea:
http://knol.google.com/k/bill-ricardi/the-perfect- ... - ingotanarchist, on 04/12/2009, -0/+5Have you seen Zombies, Zombies, Zombies? It's an even cheaper, more craptastic zombie movie with strippers. It looks like it was shot with a handi-cam.
- BulkVanderhuge, on 04/11/2009, -0/+5IMO, the obsession with zombies is because it allows us to live out the repressed dream of just mowing MF'ers down without remorse. It allows us the joy of killing humans without really killing humans.
It's kind of like how William Hung allowed us to make fun of retarded people without really making fun of retarded people. - lamejoketeller, on 04/11/2009, -2/+7Zombies have always. ALWAYS. been better than vampires.
Zombies represent a worldwide distopian collapse of order, the flaws of the structure of our modern society, the fact that human kind is lost without modern amenities, and the ever-lasting gag that zombies aren't that different from humans.
All vampires represent is a romantic love for dark victorianism and being emo. - Quicksilver4648, on 04/11/2009, -0/+5Everyone that saw the Leprechaun say "YEAH!"
- shalb, on 04/11/2009, -0/+4Molotov!
- ArthurSucks, on 04/11/2009, -0/+4That steaming pile of teen-drama 'Twilight' has become the flavor of the minute. If you blink you'll miss it.
- AlexCrawford, on 04/11/2009, -1/+5Its tough to decide between Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z, both should just go hand in hand.
- roseap, on 04/11/2009, -0/+4Pipe bomb here!
- TheSkunkMonkey, on 04/11/2009, -0/+4Zombies are real!!
Just ask Woody Harrelson.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Movies/04/10/woody ... - aupeters, on 04/11/2009, -1/+5Zombies > Mutants > Aliens > Giant Monsters (Sea Monsters, Frankenstein's, etc.) > Demons/religious enigmas > Vampires > Ghosts > Werewolves > Other > Furries
- LordBalderdash, on 04/11/2009, -0/+3zombie popularity is the direct result of the popularity of fps's. loads and loads of unthinking monsters to destroy and they just keep on coming. it's 'safe' horror film making because you don't have to put any thought into your villain, just make lots of them, you don't even really need a story. at least george romero's zombie flicks had depth to them, they were social statements, not just disposable characters chased by disposable monsters in disposable movies. i think the proliferation of zombie movies says more about a complete lack of creativity and imagination on the part of most filmmakers and audiences these days than anything else.
- thatonekid393, on 04/11/2009, -2/+5I like World War Z a lot more than the Zombie Survival Guide, but the Guide is just that much funnier in that it's actually serious.
Max Brooks is awesome. - jc7012, on 04/11/2009, -0/+3By removing the head or destroying the brain?
- kwasmosis, on 04/11/2009, -0/+3I think it is hilarious when a mainstream publication comes up with the idea that a subculture is getting big, and then it becomes the new thing to know about. And....ZOMBIES EFFIN ROCK!
Anyone seen 'Zombie Strippers!' with Jenna Jameson?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0960890/
OH YEAH!!! It's awesome, she shoots pool balls from her cooch. - garlicdeath, on 04/11/2009, -1/+4Yeah, I know. I found the article interesting and I was going into the comments to post my opinion on the article and on zombies in general. Then I saw it was babyman submission so it voided any enjoyment I gained from reading this. ***** those powerdiggers!
You ***** moron. - Megalomatthew, on 04/11/2009, -0/+3Damn...now we're gonna have to put up with teen romance films staring zombies.
- BulkVanderhuge, on 04/11/2009, -0/+3Lots of bagging on vampire movies. I agree that Twilight is a piece of shiat. But we shouldn't forget "Near Dark" or "Let the Right One In" or "Fright Night" or "Martin", even "Salem's Lot" or "From Dusk 'til Dawn" - not an emo pussy in the mix.
- randypanda, on 04/11/2009, -1/+4Plus, zombies have no marking ability towards young 13 year old girls. No one is going to want to read a book about a human ***** zombie. That my friend is called reverse necrophilia, unless its surprise butt sex then its totally ok.
- gimilan, on 04/11/2009, -0/+3Has everybody forgotten about 30 Days of Night?!? that is how a vampire really is, thats the monster they should be, not that twilight series sissy crap. but don't get me wrong, I am an avid zombie fan, i have every zombie movie i can find. but we can't forget that vampires can be cool too.
- Spacejack, on 04/11/2009, -0/+2Also not to forget that while Anne Rice was popularizing her boy-band vampires, Brian Lumley was writing HIS vampires... an opposing school to say the least.
- velveetaavenger, on 04/11/2009, -1/+3http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQkRPEzCJH4
- drexl, on 04/11/2009, -0/+2Really? Time is doing it's best attempt at being relevant. It's a shame. Time is just angry that it can't get any of that fabled "internet money".
I saw an interview with the CEO of Time not long ago and he just couldn't understand why the magazine wasn't making money and he elaborated on trying to make the online magazine a paid content site. - Codename, on 04/11/2009, -1/+3Remember guys Kevin Rose doesn't like story titles with "Zombie" in it. I quote "You put Zombie and Erie in the title, and I don't wanna do it."
- zbeast, on 04/11/2009, -0/+2I hate zombie's they freak me the hell out.
- ingotanarchist, on 04/12/2009, -0/+2Pills here!
- shalb, on 04/11/2009, -0/+2An undead undead?
- shalb, on 04/11/2009, -0/+2Vampires can't gain much from zombies. They already are undead, so being an undead undead doesn't make much sense. They can fly, something zombies can only stare with their rotting eyes in envy of. They can turn into bats. They live forever until staked in the heart or whatever mortal weaknesses vampires have. Zombies also continue to rot; vampires don't. Vampires have superhuman strength and speed, something only some zombies possess. Zombies infect with saliva or a bite; vampires change humans in a particular manner (biting and in some cases feeding the victim vampire blood). And, most of all, vampires have a brain they can use to think, something zombies obviously lack. It doesn't make much sense to have a vampiric zombie since there's nothing for a vampire to gain and anything zombies would gain would turn them into a vampire.
Zombies are best mindless brain hungry hordes that increases their numbers at the alarming speeds in which they claim their victims. Vampires are the sophisticated aristocracy they themselves are so arrogantly proud of. - Prathik89, on 04/12/2009, -0/+2so thats a dead-un?
- Prathik89, on 04/12/2009, -0/+230 days of night IMO was the perfect depiction of vampires, cruel, sadistic *****.
