http://mininova.org - Nick217, on 11/10/2008, -3/+32let's all gather round the laptop screen
- alex361, on 11/10/2008, -2/+19If the're going to have interstitial ads every 10 minutes I'll stick with bittorrent.
- jonesyb, on 11/10/2008, -1/+17Phew, glad you pointed that out I would have had no idea what the title was otherwise.
- richjmdigg, on 11/10/2008, -0/+15Unfortunately, just like Hulu and online South Park episodes, this won't be available outside of the USA.
"Sources said, that the service will be available only in the US and that British users are unlikely to have access to the content for the foreseeable future." Times Online - 00420, on 11/10/2008, -0/+13I, also, would rather pay to watch a movie rather than watch it with ads. But, many people would rather watch it for free with ads, so what exactly is ridiculous about it?
- bigpun, on 11/10/2008, -3/+15Any ideas whether this'll be available outside of the States?
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -1/+13if you don't know how to hook up your laptop to your TV by now, you'll never know.
- Bitties, on 11/10/2008, -2/+12Just doing my jorb.
- scoot2006, on 11/10/2008, -0/+10I doubt they'll be high enough quality to put full screen on my media center computer. Oh well, at least Netflix has the Starz deal.
- smoger, on 11/10/2008, -2/+11there's a myriad of ways to put YouTube on your tv..
- ryanhutto, on 11/10/2008, -0/+7even when you pay for a film now you still have to sit through a quarter hour of Ads and then 30 minutes of trailers... so we're screwed either way
- alex7575, on 11/10/2008, -8/+14Hooray for ***** movies at ***** quality!
But hey, it's "Full-Lenght"! - cadmiumpaint, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5i've been spoiled by HD. I have no desire to watch movies online that have lower than VHS or standard def cable quality. And i'm sure the thing will have all kinds of buffering issues and ads that cut the thing up into dozens of pieces. no thanks youtube.
- bbilden, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5Doesn't it still have the main idea, yet it is now evolving into something better?
No one is telling people "Alright no more funny clips, custom made music videos, or home videos, ONLY movies!"
They are just adding it as an option.
Although I agree with the idiotic ads *inside the video. Ugh. - elagothro, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5"the three-year-old YouTube" . . .
Was anyone else caught off guard by the fact that YouTube is only three years old? It feels like it has been around a lot longer than three years.
As far as the actual movies on YouTube goes . . . if they increase the quality of their feeds, maybe it'd be a worthwhile service. I doubt it, though. - ifire, on 11/10/2008, -2/+6Win.
- Jibberwalk, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4What movies are censored? The language is still there, and the nudity is most definitely still present.
And TV shows being taken down... that's up to the parent company that airs the episode. Hulu just takes what they can get. - alex361, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3Are you sure you've selected a filter? I have Adblock Plus and I don't see a single ad on digg.
- artfuldodga, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3i figured, you know... every site that is allowed to do this, sets the internet back a few steps, all the while US consumers enjoy great content, the rest of the world is left in the dark.
- Andrwmorph, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3It also has Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia
- Leezus, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3Hulu has Arrested Development.
Honestly, what else do you need? - inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Awesome. Now I don't have to watch movies in twenty 10-minute long segments. .
- RudeTurnip, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2AppleTV has a built-in YouTube browser. It's the only way I watch YouTube.
Too bad my Verizon Fios decided to slow to a crawl of 1mbps during this past week from its normal 10mbps...otherwise I'd have a whole new range of televisual entertainment :-( - inactive, on 11/13/2008, -0/+2How does one get length wrong two times in a row?
- nonymous666, on 11/10/2008, -3/+5YouTube? Well, I guess it could be argued that the quality will make it look like you're watching it on an authentic 1940's television.
- iamgreg007, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2The article doesn't even mention the fact that MGM's most famous property, the James Bond movies, will not ever be available on YouTube.
According to Universal Exports: Jim Packer, MGM’s Co-President of Worldwide Television, admitted: “I don’t think you are going to be seeing a James Bond movie on YouTube. That’s a very special franchise for us. We are very cautions about where we put those movies.”
Source: http://www.universalexports.net/
Personally, I feel that they are making a big mistake by omiting the franchise. Though, I guess if you are only making the videos USA-centric, it's not THAT big a deal. But seriously, what were they thinking. - TTURabble, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2When I watch a movie on Hulu I use the ads to take a piss, even then, its not like 5 minutes of commercials, usually just one 30 second spot.
- PawFox, on 11/10/2008, -2/+4Youtube is really losing it's purpose.. I liked the idea at first, Creative Video streaming allowing you to upload what you think was good. Having funny clips from shows, Custom made music videos, Kids with acne but now I just feel it's a bunch of crap - I don't use youtube to watch movies, I buy DVD's to watch movies. - I watch it for clips, tech news and reviews and music. It's really lost it's purpose.
They already have advertising in the middle of the video. And even if it becomes "US" only I will just boycott youtube. /end rant - savocado, on 11/10/2008, -5/+7If it will not be available in the United Kingdom, I will be disappointed.
- artfuldodga, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1you know, this is great and all... but what if its restricted to US only? whats the point... besides ruining the internet
- SolidSamus, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1w00t! for iPhone/iPod touch owners this might make life awesome...well okay for iPhone owners.
hmm hopefully they have a car charger for their iPhone... - diggkris, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1All i can see is that i will have to wait hours for the movie to buffer! But its a step in the right direction, i hope more labels sign on, this could be the start of something new.
- ElTomacco, on 11/10/2008, -2/+3Yeah, I mean what good is a service that is only available to 300 million people.
- rheaume, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1And its US only, ***** that crap
- trakais, on 11/10/2008, -1/+2outside USA = British ? :)
- PawFox, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1While I do agree with you, But when you have somthing advertised "WATCH MGM MOVIES" and yet you go to click the link you get the lovely "YOU ARE NOT PART OF THE USA" it's hardly fair.
If youtube is going to do this I would feel more warmly welcome if it wasn't just for the USA allow it for other countries and not just UK either.
I feel they're heading down-hill why should they have to add MGM movies, advertise it and then only allow visitors from the USA and ruin the style it's been at? It's not like they're losing users. - illt, on 11/10/2008, -1/+2my only problem with hulu is, they have just short clips when searching for some content.
that's annoying as hell when looking for full eps. - TailsTheMan, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1Now youtube just needs to make it so when fullscreen their bar doesn't take up 1/3 of it.
- rssman, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1Hey wait. This is not World Wide Web meant to be. "It's the US wide web" damn!
- Godlike, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1The discount theater is still really cheap.
- profits2wealth, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1Thanks for sharing!! Kathy
- misterteenwolf, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1oh my god, i already have problems with people being loud in the theater but can you imagine what it would be like if they were youtube commenters?
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1or iPhone? It'll be good to have something to watch while doing the laundry.
- jamesduh, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1www.tv-links.cc
- reyemnoraa, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1i would be more excited if it was a studio other than MGM... they dont really have that much goin for them
ill stick to hulu thank you very much - Jibberwalk, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1On the left-hand side... you can select "Full Episodes."
- FKnight, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1In case no one has realized it up until now, YouTube's quality sucks.
- Jibberwalk, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1Every now and then an ad manages to slip through my adblock plus when I'm on Digg. For the most part though, I'm ad free. I'm not entirely sure what that happens.
