Oh come on... this is gonna be a classic...
"You just shot down a helicopter with a CAR!"
"I was out of bullets"
How can you be a straight male and not want to go see this movie? - Caruthers, on 10/11/2007, -3/+85Yippy-Kay-Yay-***** would have probably given the movie an R-rating. I realize that the producers want to appeal to a larger audience but one of the reasons the series was received so well is due to its violent nature (imho).
- insanewriters, on 10/11/2007, -4/+71From what I've read, the violence levels are on-par with the previous, R-rated movies. I still don't understand why the MPAA finds naughty words more immoral than violence.
- fivestarsoul, on 10/11/2007, -1/+67@morph
That's because the director had George Clooney go woo the MPAA into giving it a PG-13 rating. Bruce Willis tried the same thing, but he wore a wife-beater and torn jeans and called everyone pal. - ChillEnt, on 10/11/2007, -7/+57We need better movie reviewers if he seriously couldn't say anything else about this movie.
- Kniggit, on 10/11/2007, -1/+39It's better than the fully censored alternative. It's painful to watch any Die Hard movies on TBS or similar stations because they literally change it to "Yipee Kay-Yay MR. FALCON"
And the "Mr. Falcon" is in a voice that more resembles a 12 year old spelling bee champion than Bruce Willis. - reidjm, on 10/11/2007, -4/+35Definitely, I read the article and that's the basis for the entire thing. Please tell me this guy doesn't get paid to review movies because this guy seriously just said that he's no longer planning to see the movie because one word is cut out. Seriously, write something worth a *****.
- newyawker, on 10/11/2007, -4/+33Hold on a second... The new Die Hard isn't rated R!? WTF?!?!?!
- 0xbaadf00d, on 10/11/2007, -2/+31"As for the cussing, it better be loaded with it. That is who John McLane is!"
It's PG-13, so it will not be loaded with it.
This is the same ***** as when the made the Aliens Vs Predator movie. How do you kill a good R rated movie franchise? Make it PG-13. - tEhKewleSt, on 10/11/2007, -11/+39Are you talking about Ned Flanders of Simpsons fame? Ned Flanders dude, Ned.
- maczealot, on 10/11/2007, -8/+33Not having that quote is like....
Star Wars without "I've got a bad feeling about this..."
Indiana Jones without grabbing for his gun..
and the Simpsons without "D'oh!" - olimer, on 10/11/2007, -2/+24Correction,
WHO THE FU(GUN SHOT) CARES??? - tnsimonson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18Mmmmmmmmmmm . . . pistol whip.
- slipgrid, on 10/11/2007, -4/+22Great, another orange square of cellophane cheese. The rating system seems to make all the movies look the same.
Just for the record, I'm an adult, who enjoys adult things. Also, I don't have any kids and I don't give a ***** about yours.
Peace and please don't ***** with the arts,
Yo! - Dumbledorito, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20My two favorite quotes about critcs (sources unknown):
"A man cannot claim to be a critic until he provides written proof that he beats his mother."
And
"Critics are like eunuchs in a harem: they know how it's done, they've seen it done every day, but they are unable to do it themselves." - thatgirlismine, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17As soon as I saw that they were going for a PG-13 rating (retarded), this was the first thing I thought of. Although I was expecting Yippee-Kay-Yay-Mother-*CAR EXPLOSION*
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+22The ads they're running in New York City convinced me to see this movie. There's a picture here:
http://www.flickfilosopher.com/blog/2007/06/die_hard_on_a_bus.html
(that's not my blog, I just found it through a Google search)
You literally see HUNDREDS of these buses all over the place. If that's not a bad-ass marketing campaign, I don't know what is. - thatgirlismine, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17I dunno, when I am in the mood to see something like Die Hard, I expect broken glass, blood, and profanity. PG-13 rules out the latter 2.
Imagine how lame the first movie would have been had it been neutered for a PG-13 rating. The first film came out over 18 years ago, and thus the principle fan base is guaranteed to be old enough to see an R movie. I just don't understand this decision. - Morphinity, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18They said "*****" in Ocean's 11. It got a PG-13 rating. And that was in 2001! :O
- 4degrees, on 10/11/2007, -5/+19LAME! Why make a "Die Hard" movie without the grittyness of "Die Hard"
- whahaa, on 10/11/2007, -5/+19Die Hard 1 and 3 had important things in common:
they were both directed by John McTiernan and they both rocked.
Die Hard 2: not directed by McTiernan, really sucked.
Die Hard 4: not directed by McTiernan.... and we'll see about the second thing but it's not looking good.
not to mention Die Hard 4 is the first one to not be rated R.
bruce willis, you should know better. - JoshuaH, on 10/11/2007, -7/+21Is there even a reason to watch now?
/Sarcasm - LogicBomB, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17I'll probably see it but I'm not on the edge of my seat for it. A PG die hard movie just won't work terribly well.
Also, if you've seen the trailer, they show every single action scene that will be in this movie and almost all of it is ridiculous and silly. What ever happened to a few good action scenes that were believable? I don't want to see him throwing cars at helicopters. I want to see him doing something the average person could do - just like the rest of them. The point of Die Hard in my opinion was that everything seemed plausible and he was human. The trailer for this makes him look like an invincible superhero. - sdub74, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15@Morphinity
That was before Janet Jackson showed her nipple on national TV. Now everyone is a little bitch when it comes to anything which the super-conservative may find offensive....oh, maybe I shouldn't have said bitch...oh well, ***** it. - spootmonkey, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14OUTRAGE!!!!!
but really, I mean come on. Its not really a die hard film without that line. This is sounding more and more like die not so hard. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+18@thcobbs
i'm not striaght, and i want to see some damn explosions! - RealmDown, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15A critic is defined as one who comes down from the mountain, after the war is over, and shoots the dead.
- punchinelli, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11About 7 or 8 years ago, we were watching it on TV, and they replaced it with "Yipee Kay Yay, Mr. Funk."
We still joke about it today....... - cuoops, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10$$$$$
- duestown, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Actually, you'll notice a lot of PG-13 movies with the word "*****" in them. That's because the MPAA generally allows one use of that word in a movie shooting for a PG-13 rating. Perhaps it's the full-out "*****" that they don't like.
Somehow saying it once is significantly better than saying it twice (don't ask me). Plus, some directors and actors realize that since they're making a PG-13 movie, they can say "*****" once, so they put it in there unnaturally and make it stick out like a sore thumb. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9l0tharnt:
He did it in all three movies, and each time it's a hilarious gag. Next time you watch these films, pay attention. - Chingmiester, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10One) Blog spam. Show us the review in which it's said that Bruce Willis doesn't say the line.
Two) I work at a movie theater, and I've seen the trailer for this movie countless times. Bruce Willis does say the line in the trailer, but like this review a gunshot goes off. I have a feeling this is just for the preview, as the preview is allowed for "all ages" to view. - TheProtested, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8wait, wheres the spoiler, did you not know there were going to be guns?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Having die hard without that one liner is like having a rocky movie where sylvester stallone's character doesnt talk&fight like a retard with lead poisoning
- sharod, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9This movie is called DIE HARD right? It's a part of series known for it's over the top action/violence, and it's main character's catch phrase, which is: "Yippy-Kay-Yay-*****!!". ...they just ruined the LAST Die Hard film.
- thirdape, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8DIE HARD!!! but make sure while doing so you do not use expletives or engage in any sexually suggestive behaviors.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6"Those who can, do; those who can't, criticize."
- zyl0x, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Whatever, I'll just stick with the originals.
***** 10-years-later sequels. - wushi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7lamest thing today...
- Mitchl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I think the ratings nonsense is cumulative on the various offenses. You can have a boob in a PG-13 movie, or you can have violence in a PG-13 movie, or you have have some ***** and some ***** in a PG-13 movie. But if you go for the boob/***** combo, or the violence/***** combo you get bumped to an R.
- catalysis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Well at least they won't have to edit this one when it goes straight to TV.
- falstaff, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Check out "The Perfect Storm" some time. That's the most swearing I've heard in a PG-13 film. Yeah, that was before the more strict FCC crackdown, but the MPAA is not an arm of the government, nor do they have any legal authority. The whole system is arbitrary and borders on useless.
- SKrypto, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7that's just because chuck norris wan't in that movie.
- zyl0x, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6No you're a retard. Smart people can spell.
- bcarl314, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I'm really REALLY sorry to be a grammar Nazi, but "aloud"? Yikes. Perhaps you wanted to say "You are ALLOWED to say "*****" ALOUD once in a movie..." ?
- agentbad, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7You are aloud to say "*****" once in a PG-13 movie. I guess ***** is pushing it over the edge.....They need to get George Carlin on the MPAA board then we will see some changes alright.
- aaronwolfe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4PG13? Why????
This rating system is really starting to annoy me. PG13 is a joke anymore. Movies with none stop violence get a PG13 rating. And then they take a movie like Die Hard, which should be R, would be better rated R, and wreck it because they want the PG13 audience. It's a joke. Why can't the just make a good movie and not worry about the rating? Money ruins everything... - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7Its not so much spoilage that he doesnt say the full "yipee ki yay *****" as it is disappointing, and as that is relatively one of the milder things in the die hard series, it gives the impression that every aspect willb e neutered, from the character behavior on down to the action.
- endlessoul, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Actually, according to Bruce himself- Walter B on Ain't It Cool News, ***** is said more than once in the movie.
If I recall correctly, Yippie-Kay-Yay-***** is said.
/gonna see it - su1man, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4why would they make it pg-13? thats what I wanna know.
