Will Smith Rules 4th of July Again, 'Hancock' Grosses $107m!
aol.com.au — Will Smith's box-office superpowers remain intact. Smith's "Hancock" - the story of a boozing, foul-mouthed superhero who dresses like a street bum - led the Fourth of July weekend at the US Box Office with a $66 million debut, according to studio estimates Sunday. That raised the total for Sony's "Hancock" to $107.3 million since it opened.

- darkchild82, on 07/06/2008, -1/+28How many of you guys saw it and liked it? Just curious because I've read some very mixed reviews on this one. It's not as bad as 'Wild Wild West' is it?
- illustrick, on 07/06/2008, -24/+17i watched it online, i thought it was barely entertaining, i would of been upset if i paid to see it.
- Trevino, on 07/06/2008, -4/+6I saw it thought it was ok. Had I known had how mediocre it was before I saw it I would not have gone.
- quomen, on 07/06/2008, -6/+6You're cool. You watch cam recordings.
- gllopc, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2I think you could benefit from reading a grammar book online, as well.
- rrbest, on 07/07/2008, -1/+4I wouldn't of been upset if you wrote have instead have of.
- arplayer2k, on 07/06/2008, -18/+21Don't spend money to watch it.
- mimigins, on 07/06/2008, -7/+36I liked it. It wasn't amazing or as great as Iron Man but I liked the story, it was pretty original.
And Will Smith is great.- reichg, on 07/06/2008, -13/+5dark knight will destory iron man
- championchap, on 07/07/2008, -2/+2Remember when Tom Cruise was great?
Just saying, same boat.
Wouldn't surprise me to see him go the same way.
- reichg, on 07/06/2008, -13/+5dark knight will destory iron man
- e36wheelman, on 07/06/2008, -12/+31Awful movie.
It had the stupidest twisting-turning storyline. I think they made the script up day-by-day while they were shooting. It's the only way to justify how horrible this movie was. It was a bad role for Will Smith too. Smith playing a guy who doesn't smile?...
Also, Charlize Theron is ridiculously hot. - Kannebas, on 07/06/2008, -1/+15I thought the first half was great and the last half was meh... =|
Peter Berg sure has come a long way since starring in Shocker, but he kinda got swallowed up by the plot and lost his way in this one... - darkcss, on 07/06/2008, -5/+4Yeah, Hancock can't hold a candle to ID4 and other good Will Smith movies. It was over before I knew it, nothing special about it. Characters were thrown into the mix but didn't make you care about them. But this is a review from someone who thought the new Indiana Jones sucked too, so take it as you will.
- solid12345, on 07/07/2008, -6/+2Good movie and Will Smith is an oxymoron.
- fugeelama, on 07/07/2008, -6/+4You thought Independence Day was a good movie?
- rrbest, on 07/07/2008, -3/+4Pursuit of Happyness is a great movie.
- Charlotte_Web, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2I hated Pursuit of Happyness. Two hours of agony for 5 minutes of payoff.
- Maria0305, on 07/06/2008, -3/+3I didn't like it very much. I'd wait for the DVD if I were you.
- cjmal, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2I'd wait for a dvdrip and download it. I don't even think it's worth a rental.
- judicar, on 07/06/2008, -1/+11I liked it, its a bit of a new spin on the superhero genre where the superheros are the ones that need saving.
And yes Charlize Theron is retardedly hot.- expert01, on 07/07/2008, -2/+1I loved it. Every bit as good as Iron Man (they both had their flaws). Only problem for me was the stupid description everywhere: "Will smith ***** the wife of some guy helping him", more or less. Completely wrong.
I hope they'll have a sequel with some sort of badass enemy for him to fight.
- expert01, on 07/07/2008, -2/+1I loved it. Every bit as good as Iron Man (they both had their flaws). Only problem for me was the stupid description everywhere: "Will smith ***** the wife of some guy helping him", more or less. Completely wrong.
- oxdeltaxo, on 07/06/2008, -4/+3It was a mediocre movie, but in my opinion it was way better than seeing Wanted.
- iKomplex, on 07/06/2008, -3/+8Is it wrong for anyone to share their honest, critical, opinions without being dugg down by those (aka Will Smith aficionados) who disapprove of them? I mean, if you do not like what they have to say, then at least respond with a constructive opinion of your own rather than automatically resorting to the thumbs down icon as soon as you glance over their words.
- Cate320, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2I liked it, but I thought it would have been so much better if it stayed more true to the trailer. It got more "dramatic" in the 2nd half. Which ordinarily would have been fine - I probably would have still gone to see it, but I was in the mood for, and expecting a comedy, so it was a bit disappointing.
- badjoke, on 07/07/2008, -2/+11The first half was good. A twist happened mid-way and ruined the rest of the movie.
- mike17032, on 07/07/2008, -1/+4I thought it was great. If you want to see a mostly mindless movie, its perfect.
I actually thought Will Smith pulled off the run down drunk role a lot better than I thought he would be able to.- daschupa, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1If you are expecting a magnum opus from Will Smith then you have deeper issues to deal with. The movie was great 75% of the time and thoroughly confusing the rest of the time (read: ending), so pretty much on par with Indiana Jones 4. If you don't like Will or most importantly Jason Bateman, then wait for it on DVD with a hopefully deleted ending akin to I Am Legend's.
- jasz, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2I liked it! just saw it last night... I thought the twist @ the end was cool! not your same-old superhero movie!
- owls27, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1As far as movies go its a 5. With Smith, it gets bumped to a 6. (Out of 10) I double featured that day after seeing Wall-E first. A 9/10.
- sonicularulus, on 07/07/2008, -2/+3Its one of those movies that you either think was really good or really bad.
i thought it was really good. - MOJIRA, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2Hancock was okay; had it's like 5 or 6 funny moments, but everything else was meh.
Want your money's worth?
Go see WALL-E. It's actually really good, even if you don't like animated films. If you don't trust me, check the rating on imdb. - xelloss, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1It was a meh from me. My friends thought it was good and funny. While I laughed at it wasn't like seeing Knocked Up or Superbad funny for the first time. The Story was ok up until the twist I seemed to see coming.
- LogicBomB, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3I loved this movie. Pure popcorn flick but it was MUCH funnier than I could have imagined. Had me laughing the whole time.
This isn't a balls-out action flick and this isn't a dumb comedy either. It's just a funny movie to take your significant other to and have a very enjoyable evening.
I'll probably buy it on DVD just as a "guilty pleasure" kind of movie. - jcorn1, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1Just for the record, one teen liked it and the adult with him hated it. I think Will Smith has so much charm that even the critics can't jinx it for him. People flock to his movies. Just my take.

- stresslife, on 07/06/2008, -22/+17I have to say that this movie was good. It was good fun, much better than Wanted. His remake of I am Legend was pathetic, but this was a very good attempt to do a non-franchise super hero movie.
Personally, it was worth $10.50 for the movie ticket - IMAX-worthy.- Typhoon2009, on 07/06/2008, -7/+11Pathetic? I thought I Am Legend was pretty awesome.
- WhoDoneIt, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Pathetic if you enjoyed the novel, err, short story. The two were nothing a like.

- GawtMilk, on 07/06/2008, -1/+2People didn't get that it wasn't meant to be a serious movie. It's an escapist director, what did people expect? It's like saying you didn't like North By Northwest because you didn't think it was reliable that Cary Grant could hang off a nose at Mount Rushmore.
No ***** people can't curve bullets, and century-old textile workers didn't invent binary code. Bring suspension of disbelief to Wanted and I think you'll enjoy it. Good story, good "***** action". I don't understand why the ratings were so bad.

- 24imac, on 07/06/2008, -2/+6The Pirate Bay charged me nothing to watch the movie.
It had it's funny moments, the movie was ok, not IronMan, but then again, only IronMan is well, going to be like IronMan......- rrbest, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3must suck watching a cam presentation of a movie designed for cinema presentation.
- josereyes0, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1It's $10.50 here in Boston, $12-13 IMAX.
- TecK415, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2You're taste in film is the exact opposite of mine.
- silverharbinger, on 07/06/2008, -0/+0IMAX movies are $12.75 here in Knoxville, plus another $2.00 for online ordering fees. That's what I paid for my tickets to see The Dark Knight on the 18th, but I'm pretty sure it'll be worth every penny.
That would be totally unlike the last movie they ran in IMAX here, which was Speed Racer. Enough said.- stevealford, on 07/07/2008, -1/+0I agree with your sentiment, but I hate everything about the state of Tennessee... literally everything... so I'm at a crossroads. I want to bury you for being a Tennessean and even mentioning the hole in the earth that is Knoxville (especially every bar within 20 miles of M.E.P.S. or on greek row), but I want to dig you for stating the truth. I guess I'll leave you untouched for now with only one piece of advice: get the ***** out of Tennessee if you're literate and not a total piece of *****. Move to Kentucky or Virginia, please... then we can talk.
- silverharbinger, on 07/07/2008, -0/+0I agree with you that Knoxville doesn't really offer the best in local nightlife, although some newer places have opened up which aren't too bad. I've never been too keen on the bar scene anyway, so that doesn't matter too much to me anyway.
Over the last 3 decades that I have grown up in this city, I have seen it move in a steadily more progressive direction. This is in large part due to having more and more people from all over the country move here for jobs in technology, to retire and to get an education, because the cost of operating a business and the cost of living and education are comparatively lower than they are in most other cities that offer the same conveniences. It's kind of at a crossroads of it's own between the mountain and country lifestyle of the past and the the more modern lifestyle and beliefs you would find in any other community in the US. It definitely makes for an interesting mix when you're out and about.
Admittedly it still has a way to go, but like most places it's all about the neighborhood you're in and if it offers the kinds of things that you're in to. There's nothing here that I couldn't live without, but I really don't feel compelled to leave either.

- TheSuperunknown, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6I like how Ortheos (In his infinite wisdom, which he has the grace to exude upon us all in comments such as the one above) went ahead and made the supposition that mahoutie belongs to some religious denomination, and even donates to that group, thus saving us all the trouble of cognitive thought before choosing whether to agree or disagree with the sentiments expressed in the original comment.
tldr: Ortheos is a pretentious *****. - Ortheos, on 07/07/2008, -2/+3Nope. Somebody who actively bashes one religion but leaves out the rest is a pretentious *****. - Schrodinger2, on 07/06/2008, -12/+3rotten tomatoes has always been full of pretentious *****
- shadekeiko, on 07/06/2008, -1/+17The first 2/3 of the movie was fine, but then it totally became bizarre. Not really worth it. I was rooting more for Jason Bateman's character than Hancock. o.O;
- Hetman, on 07/06/2008, -1/+2I agree but in the end they both come out on top.
- Hetman, on 07/06/2008, -7/+10I thought it was one of the best super hero movies I have seen. I do not see why anyone would dislike it.
- geniusNOTatWORK, on 07/06/2008, -1/+2what a shame since I heard this movie wasn't as good as it should have been.
- rmeddy, on 07/06/2008, -1/+10It wasn't that bad,but it definitely doesn't live up to the hype,Good Premise ,poor execution.
- a1cd, on 07/06/2008, -6/+23I like Will Smith, hes a good actor and hes in very interesting (not always great, but interesting) movies. However all I can ever do when i watch his moves is think...
Hes a $cientologist... *****. - mrogi, on 07/06/2008, -6/+10Has there ever been a bigger or more consistent blockbuster attraction than Will Smith? I don't think any other actor in Hollywood history starred in 12 movies that grossed over $100 million at the box office.
- AshamedAmerican, on 07/06/2008, -0/+15Harrison Ford?
- mrogi, on 07/07/2008, -1/+0You are correct, sir. It's easy to forget about Harrison Ford. He kinda flies under the publicity radar. He's had spectacular success for a long time.
- cknyan, on 07/06/2008, -3/+15It sucked. If you saw the previews, you saw the best parts of the movie.
- BedPost, on 07/06/2008, -1/+11....I really thought it sucked. My two friends that I went with thought it was okay. One significant difference - they hadn't seen any trailers for it, and I had. The trailers are, unfortunately, the best parts of the movie.
- Hetman, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1Really I thought the trailer parts of the movie was the worst thing about it. The other scenes were really good. The only thing I can gripe about is that they had to many close up face shots.
- DuggDeaper, on 07/06/2008, -4/+5I am not one to hold a man and his religion hostage over my opinion, but I did the torrent thing and i must say it was a pretty good movie.
- Boofster, on 07/06/2008, -0/+11Charlize Theron made the movie for me. Marry me!
Movie was ok but nothing too great. The end part could have been shortened.
Wall-E was much better of a movie overall. I'd say Wanted was even better than this. - mrjit, on 07/06/2008, -4/+21Is he still a Scientologist? If so, skipping.
- mrjit, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1I'm a horrible anti-Scientologist and I went to see it last night (no other options) - not a bad movie at all, although it felt like different directors filmed different parts of it. The ending was nothing like the beginning.
- nugz85, on 07/06/2008, -3/+5come on people, who thought this would be great? am i the only one who is jadded on hollywood blockbusters? i've been burned on nearly all the blockbuster movies i wanted to see in the last 8 years. (minus batman). go to hell will smith, go to hell hollywood... 107 MILLION, great, now here comes hancock 2 and 3, and dont forget to buy the lunchboxes.
- MyDiggIsBig, on 07/06/2008, -0/+41/2 the problem is the studios, the other half of the problem is the idiots who watch this stuff. Maybe if people started going to the oscar worthy movies or watching lower budget films, then hollywood would be able to cater better movies and spend more of their budget on such films. But no, as long as stupid people are easily amused by this crap, hollywood will continue to make this garbage.
- Louis11, on 07/06/2008, -4/+12A few years ago I would've been dying to see this movie, simply because Will Smith was in it. Now that it has come to light that he partakes in the cult of scientology, well I could care less.
- Hetman, on 07/06/2008, -13/+7WTF I hate all religions. Why do you guys pick on Scientology though? It is no worst than him being a christian.
- Shizcake1337, on 07/06/2008, -2/+7Personally, as well as many others I'd presume, don't hate Scientology as the religion, it's the Church of Scientology which is the cult, and only church that practices Scientology.
We're against the church, not the religion itself. - Nappuccino, on 07/06/2008, -2/+4I have to disagree with that... the worst parts of Christianities actions are in their past... Scientology shows no sign of slowing their atrocities down.
- Nappuccino, on 07/06/2008, -1/+2Christianity's*
- JenovaWitness77, on 07/06/2008, -2/+6The difference is Christianity encourages public service for the poor and misfortune whereas Scientology creates poor and misfortune people by stealing their money for a few brain washing seminars.
- Hetman, on 07/07/2008, -5/+1Sorry guys one religion is the same as the next. If you cannot see that christianity is the same as scientology I feel sorry for you. It is the method of indoctrination that gets me, it has nothing to do with what they preach. Because in the end that is what matters.
- Hetman, on 07/07/2008, -3/+1And Cult and religion is the same thing. Sorry to rain on your parade. But they are the same thing.
- Nappuccino, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1While there are similarities between cults and religions, if you look up the definition of each word there is one very large difference:
Cult:
6. a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader. (source: dictionary.com)
This is what we mean when we refer to Scientology as a cult.
- Nappuccino, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1While there are similarities between cults and religions, if you look up the definition of each word there is one very large difference:
- RomulusX86, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1It's quite saddening that 6 people agreed with you.
- Shizcake1337, on 07/06/2008, -2/+7Personally, as well as many others I'd presume, don't hate Scientology as the religion, it's the Church of Scientology which is the cult, and only church that practices Scientology.
- Mikhail101, on 07/06/2008, -5/+1Why is this Digg worthy?
- HatterMadigan, on 07/06/2008, -6/+1Good Movie.
- lalalalamppost, on 07/06/2008, -3/+19Does he fight Body Thetans in that movie?
- faizal5k, on 07/06/2008, -1/+5I was deciding between Hancock or Wall-E this past Thursday. I went with Wall-E because I heard mixed reviews about Hancock and awesome reviews on Wall-E. I'll wait until Hancock comes out on Blu-ray.
- moldytoaster, on 07/06/2008, -3/+3i loved that first half of the movie, but the second half...... not so much
- DaveClarkOne, on 07/06/2008, -3/+3I think Howard the Duck was a better movie. But at least Willie's movie is deductible: I'm contributing to his church, right?
- MalusMalo, on 07/06/2008, -7/+5It was a good movie, don't know why people are being dicks about it.
- Xihix, on 07/06/2008, -1/+9Thank God I saw the movie for free (in theaters, and no, I didn't sneak, it's a long story). I'd be pissed if I had paid for this piece of *****.
- GUTTS, on 07/06/2008, -3/+2If you didn't pay...then you were being sneaky. Either way no one should pay to watch a movie about an emo turd
- RcHer, on 07/06/2008, -0/+7Charlize Theron is hot. That's the best part.
- GUTTS, on 07/06/2008, -3/+5I agree. Man i would love to ass rape her.
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4Ahh... Digg...

- GUTTS, on 07/06/2008, -3/+5I agree. Man i would love to ass rape her.
- Cheeseburgers, on 07/06/2008, -2/+3i never saw this movie..from what I gather from the trailer, he's a homeless superhero. He begs for change by day and fights criminals by night. Is this correct?
- nogayskthx, on 07/07/2008, -7/+0why would he have to beg-- when he can just rip you apart and take every penny on your corpse?
get off the "suxed cuz willsmith=scientologist" bandwagon, *****. - ELCad, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3No, he just looks homeless.
- nogayskthx, on 07/07/2008, -7/+0why would he have to beg-- when he can just rip you apart and take every penny on your corpse?
- DiggGeek24, on 07/06/2008, -12/+5Hancock dies at the end
