- Canadianinjapan, on 09/08/2008, -13/+247Captain America isn't black >_<
Why don't we just cast Jackie Chan as superman.... - inactive, on 09/08/2008, -7/+116Oh christ...I really hate Hollywood sometimes.
- 0gre, on 09/08/2008, -18/+119I'm fine with a black Captain America... I don't think Will Smith would make a good Captain America though.
- inactive, on 09/08/2008, -1/+97I don't not think there's not enough negations in the description.
- inactive, on 09/09/2008, -3/+95Don't forget The Last ***** on Earth starring Tom Hanks
- inactive, on 09/09/2008, -28/+99Tom Cruise as The Last Samurai?
It could happen... - CrimsonBlur, on 09/09/2008, -6/+70The whole point of that movie is that Tom Cruise's character is an outsider from another country, who happens to be a white American. What's that have to do with casting a black man as Captain America, a character that happens to already exist, and is white?
- mortalwind, on 09/09/2008, -4/+60The same blogger also reported the unusual casting of Brad Pit to play the lead in the Reboot of Malcom X........I'll be here all night folks.
- imdeanlabouty, on 09/09/2008, -10/+64I got no problem with Will Smith, but the Cap ain't black. This is some ***** if it's true.
- Niacin, on 09/09/2008, -6/+53Yeah, it's going to be said a bunch, without an ounce of racism...
But Captain America isn't black.
Or a Scientologist.
Feel free to hate on the latter point. - kerunt, on 09/09/2008, -15/+61Two of my friends died watching Will Smith act.
- sockpuppets, on 09/09/2008, -6/+48Sarah Palin as a Vice President?
- BlaqReaper, on 09/09/2008, -0/+42Rob Schneider as a Hot Chick?
- alpharaptor, on 09/09/2008, -1/+43umm, there is a black nick fury in the *****' comics
- MisterMajusty, on 09/09/2008, -1/+39Brad Pitt is The Mexican?
- WNW3, on 09/09/2008, -0/+32Nick Fury is black in Ultimate Marvel, and also modeled on Sam Jackson. I'm not seeing Captain American being a Scientologist anywhere in the canon though.
- Kronos6948, on 09/09/2008, -1/+32I doubt WWII America would've given an African American super powers to fight Nazi Germany, especially since back then they couldn't even use the same bathrooms as whites. So, the ethnicity does add a bit to the realism.
- smiertspionam, on 09/09/2008, -20/+50Actually, the first Captain America WAS black.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaiah_Bradley
What do some of you asshats think of that? I'm not saying Will Smith is right for the role of Steve Rogers, but its pointless to try to make this a race thing as to whether Captain America MUST be white.... - mtcobb2, on 09/09/2008, -4/+33Maybe you've been living under a rock for the past 15 years, but Will Smith, whether or not he's Captain America, is already an American hero. He's narrowly saved the Earth on many occasions from Aliens, Robots, Vampires, Big Metal Spiders, and just about anything else you can think of, all while being funny, charming, and dashingly handsome. The man's a ***** saint. So, how about before you make your little snide remarks about a great man, you ask yourself, 'Hey, have I ever saved the Earth from impending doom?', and if the answer is no, then just shut the hell up.
- BlaqReaper, on 09/09/2008, -0/+28Let me guess....Wild Wild West?
- aargh01, on 09/09/2008, -2/+29Ha. You didn't even read your own wiki article citation: Isaiah Bradley was the SECOND Captain America, who was created while trying to RE-create the super-soldier serum that turned Steve Rogers into the first Captain America.
And it shouldn't be Will Smith because he would make the character ridiculous, as he does all his characters, not because he's black.
Captain America has the potential to be a truly great movie about the real american dream, not the BS patriotism joke that the Republocrats use to dredge up support from the dumbed-down masses, and Will Smith would just use the character to hock someone's ***** products.
Black or white, Captain America is not about selling out. - ThePenrod, on 09/08/2008, -4/+30You are one of two people who hold that opinion. The other is Will Smith.
- ricoboy24, on 09/09/2008, -24/+49Captain Africa.
Silly Scientology Believer. - SnapETom, on 09/09/2008, -6/+27***** that Scientologist.
- Cwo655321, on 09/09/2008, -4/+25why stop there, just cast a woman as superman.
- madmondo, on 09/08/2008, -7/+27I hope that's no true.
- inactive, on 09/09/2008, -0/+20Negrodamus has spoken.
- inactive, on 09/09/2008, -7/+26maybe
Isaiah Bradley
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaiah_Bradley - Tonicks, on 09/09/2008, -1/+20Rob Schneider is...
a stapler! - inactive, on 09/09/2008, -12/+31this is *****... captain america is white god dam it... whats next jackie chan playing wonder women?
- inactive, on 09/08/2008, -1/+18I ain't not got no time for that ***** myself neither.
- Akairenn, on 09/09/2008, -1/+18Catwoman: Also not black. Hollywood doesn't care.
Also, The Last Samurai was an epic movie. Ken Watanabe (Ya know, whose character was the proverbial last samurai) = pure awesome, and you can't argue with a movie whose entire first half is devoted to scenes of Tom Cruise getting his arse kicked. - Khast, on 09/09/2008, -0/+16Making a Captain America movie would be cool and all that....but personally I don't think Will Smith fits the role.
Another thing which would definitely ruin a Captain America movie for me...is if they made the movie based upon TODAY'S American "patriotism" If you read back in the earlier days of Captain America, he would have fought against what our country has become. (Prove me wrong) He was all about truth, freedom, and the American way. (If he were fighting for today's America, he'd maybe only have 1 of those...and it ain't truth or freedom.) - davincih, on 09/08/2008, -13/+28Yet another case of some blogger gaming digg to steal someone else's story. This one must have gotten the support of MrBabyMan or something. *sigh* BURY
Here's the original source of the story... which was submitted an hour before this one: http://digg.com/movies/Will_Smith_is_the_new_Capta ... - centran, on 09/09/2008, -0/+15Jim West, desperado
Rough rider, no you don't want nada - protonone, on 09/09/2008, -0/+14This would be terrible. Skin color aside, I just can't picture wise cracking Will Smith as Captain America. The best bet for this movie is to try and find a smaller name actor and really let them make the character their own, like Tobey McGuire in the Spider Man movies.
- anonymous1986, on 09/09/2008, -3/+17It's not about race, it's about correctly representing a cartoon series where the main character is white. It's like having Harry Potter as a black person in the movie version of the series. Or having the incredible hulk as having a pink colour instead of green.
- superman4ever, on 09/09/2008, -1/+15Not going to happen. Marvel is a publicly traded company, unlike DC, and can't afford to alienate it's audience. Marvel studios cannot afford such a HUGE F**K up! This is "Catwoman" stupid.
Now, I think he could pull it off (actually no he can't, I hate that overacting-douchebag), but there is no way Marvel fanboys are going to accept a black man playing a white hero. This would be like casting Brad Pitt as the Black Panther. Not gonna happen! - cadmiumpaint, on 09/09/2008, -5/+18very very very bad choice.
whats next? Dj Jazzy Jeff as Bucky? - GQCarrick, on 09/09/2008, -0/+13Isn't it bad enough he ruined Wild Wild West?
- Mewchu11, on 09/09/2008, -1/+14Now, this is a story all about how
My bod got flipped-turned upside down
And I liked to take a minute
Now don't be a sap
I'll tell you how I got the role of the man called cap
In a secret lab getting injected and pilled
In a hosptal wing is where the blood was spilled
Shakin' and convulsin' and absorbing the rays
And stablizing the chemicals causing a blaze
When a couple of Nazis
Who were up to no good
Startin shooting scientists in my neighborhood
I got in one little fight and thus I say
I said 'To avenge his death, I will protect the US of A' - Ramenhood, on 09/09/2008, -1/+14It was fine when they cast that huge black dude as the Kingpen on Daredevil, because he acted out the role really nicely.. but this is a main character that's been an icon for decades..
- Jeffler, on 09/09/2008, -0/+13Can I just admit to epic failure now?
- HanSolo69, on 09/09/2008, -2/+14If you're fine with Will Smith being Captain America then you obviously have no respect for the character and your point is therefore null and void.
- version22l, on 09/09/2008, -2/+14uh. Nick Fury in the"ultimate universe" is in fact, an african american.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_Nick_Fury
the "classic" Nick Fury was white. - alexforcefive, on 09/09/2008, -0/+12why did everyone go straight to the "what's next, jackie chan as..." thing? Is this some kinda reference I'm just not getting?
- ThePenrod, on 09/09/2008, -0/+11The first Captain America is still Steve Rogers. "Truth", the series you cited, is about a government program to duplicate the results of the Super Soldier program (i.e. Steve Rogers is already Captain America at this point). I am not opposed to an adaptation of that story but I think there are far better actors than Will Smith to play said character.
- Halsfield, on 09/09/2008, -4/+15you might be able to say isaiah was the first super soldier, captain america however is steve rogers and is a white man.
- Smokeydabear, on 09/09/2008, -2/+13Unless one can somehow become a super soldier from getting injected with syphilis.
